Thanks Rich. The front appears to be too flat and the bumper too wide. Also, the rear deck seems to be too short but it is what it is. Wheels and tires are from the ‘56 Ford kit.

That’s quite an impressive collection! They are all so well detailed. I particularly like the whimsy of the Rolls Royce(?) hot rod and the NNL Show Team.

re: the Rolls Royce, MPC came out with some 1/32 kits that were basically 2-n-1, where you could build it stock or with custom/hotrod parts which were chrome plated and slightly unrealistic

Aurora did a great job "recycling" some of their simplistic kits by adding wacky customizing parts (the Jag).

Pyro/Lifelike had a '34 Victoria that (I'm fairly it has dimension issues) is just begging to be street rodded.

There is also a 1/32 Rolls Royce that could be turned into a small scale Munster Coach. MPC and Airfix both put out a 1911 Rolls that could be used for this build.

Aurora did a great job of releasing real hot rods under fictitious names. (Ram Rod is actually the Beach Boys "Little Deuce Coupe" but really named by the actual owner as Silver Sapphire)

With the great job 3D printers are doing now, anyone with decent eyesight (or a good magnifier) and a steady hand can take advantage of lots of unique kits not released in larger scales.

I had forgot to mention what a cool model the Jag is. I have a custom Cunningham kit, missing all the custom parts except the roof, but had to post a picture of the the box as the art is so similar to the Jag’s. The Crazy Custom is reminiscent of Kooky’s rod (from the “77 Sunset Strip” tv show).

I have another Jag with only 1 Jaguar decal plus this MG. The Phantom I dont have.

Out of the three I think the Jag looks the best. Do you know if there were  any other customizing kits in this series?

This is a great thread! I'm familiar with many of the original kits so I know just how much hard work went into making these cool looking models. I've got a couple of builds to contribute, also.

First is this Glencoe 1/72 Jag xk-120. Detail is seriously lacking but it displays okay.

 

And this is what I did with my Cunningham Phantom kit. It's a 1/32 slot car conversion modeled after the car that Briggs Cunningham drove at Le Mans in 1951.

Both models look fantastic! You did a superb job on the Cunningham. I’m working on one now and can only hope to get the body as smooth as yours. What was your choice for the white paint? And how and/or what did you do/use to create the brake cooling(?) vents on the lower front fenders/fascia? They are very nicely done! (And sorely lacking in the model kit)

I kitbashed it with the Monogram Nova kit.

The pitiful chrome-like grill and headlight bezels were done before I go some real BMF.

Note the hand-stitched upholstery.

I like the color combination. I especially like the the seats. The color and texture of material give it a soft, cozy, inviting  feeling.

The 3D printers are becoming a lot more intriguing. The latest issue of MCM #215 is “all about 3D printing” is very informative and proclaims the future is here. Makes it sounds doable even for a tech illiterate like me! Seems like almost anything is possible, limited only to your imagination or ever expanding file online.

Thanks, John. The white paint is Duplicolor Bright White and I think the blue is an old Krylon color. I clear coated both after applying the decals (to protect the decals from slot racing wear and  tear) but I'm not sure what the clear was. Maybe Testors Wet Look.

The front vents are just home-made decals made from a photo of the real thing that I found on the net. I figured that was good enough for slot racing. I don't know if you've started assembling yours yet but after you get the multi-piece body together, you'll see that that's about the last place you want to try cutting an opening and installing a small grille. The decals were so much easier!

There is at least one more in this series. It's a Ferrari and I think they called it a "Tiger Shark". I think all of these would be great subjects for box art builds. Sort of like re-creating a relic of an ancient time.

The decals work very well. They look very realistic. I agree that that would be a very difficult place to open up. Could you, would you  possibly make me 2 or 3 sets?

 Okay, here's another small scale model.  How about a Hubley Tiny Toys 1960 Chevrolet pickup? This is a restoration I did. It's a rather crude model but built up it has a charm that has always made me like it. I built at least one in the early 60's.  The white is just polished plastic. I didn't fill gaps, etc. I chose to make it a very simple build, just painting and detailing it. I decided  not to restore the horse trailer at this time but may do it some day.

 I've included photos of my factory sealed NOS kit. This one came with a horse trailer and horses but they also made it with a boat and trailer. I've read that these are about 1:60 scale. The kits don't come up too often but built-ups are not too hard to find.
