Justin Porter Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Wrapped up another build this year. This time it's the reissue of the AMT 1963 Lotus-Ford 29 as driven that year in the Indy 500 by Dan Gurney. The kit was built box stock, painted Tamiya TS-7 Racing White with a selection of AK and Mr Color paints for the details. Not the best detailed or nicest kit, but I'm about 80% satisfied with the results. 1
Rich Chernosky Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Justin you did a great job on a hard to build kit. Well done.
steveracer Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Never seen one of these built. Damn nice job these are a bit fiddly. I built the MPC Gurney Eagle and it was challenging. Wondering if the original kit issue used those tires or something different... Thank you for sharing!
bbowser Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Add my admiration for a great build of a challenging kit.
papajohn97 Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Very nice job Justin on thus ancient tooled 1/25 kit. This subject matter is really interesting to me (anything related to Dan G., a 60’s open wheel Lotus that’s not BRG, early rear engine Indy cars). I’ve been holding off picking up this re-issue because of the 1/25 scale. The photo with your Lotus parked next to the 1/20 Tamiya Ligier really shows how small this completed model is compared to 1/20 open wheeled race car models which I’m a big fan of. Now if Ebbro would issue a 1/20 kit of this car based on Tamiya’s Lotus 25 (like they did recently with the Lotus 33), I’d be all over it!

Honestly, the 1/25th scale of the kit is what put me off from purchasing resin upgrades that would have significantly improved the finished model or doing work to fix some of its more glaring issues like the absolutely cartoonish upper rear suspension links. We did just get in the Ebbro Lotus 33 at my shop and it really is chalk and chocolate to compare the two kits. The Ebbro even has separate rear coil springs for the rear coil overs, a very nice photoetch fret, and turned aluminum exhaust tips and velocity stacks included in the box! And thank you to EVERYONE for your kind words on this build! 1
sflam123 Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 You did a very nice job on a very old, difficult to build kit. Personally, I love the early 60's Indy roadsters and the mid 60's Indy rear engine cars and the few models there are of them. A very innovative time in history.
