carsntrucks4you Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 (edited) This is a 1965 - 1967 Opel Diplomat Coupe. Based on the also luxury Kapitän/Admiral models from Opel it features more chrome, more leather and more power than its cousins. The power plant was a 327 cui Corvette engine for Opel's (then) mother in the USA. 347 units where built at Karman in Osnabrück/Germany. Ace-Garageguy Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 With its somewhat GM look (with touches of Ford and Chrysler and even AMC), it'd be a fun one to have stateside, lightly modded (de-badge and add mags and redline tires), take to shows, and befuddle all the 'experts' as to what it is.
Matt Bacon Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 (edited) As Bill says... "GMish". I started looking at Acadians but the rear lights and haunches weren't quite right, and then got onto a Holden coupe prototype which had a picture of the Diplomat in the article... Nice looking car! best, M. Edited December 18, 2022 by Matt Bacon
otherunicorn Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 The lines of the wheel openings and the shape of the front fender are so similar to the Holden Premier my father used to own, so it's heritage was easy to work out.
gbtr6 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I also saw the GM in it, and thought Holden as well. Then saw Opel. Perry 1

That is what I was thinking. To me it looked like an Australian version of some American make. But is ended up being an European "relative". It definitely has lots of "American flavor". 1
