Rockford Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 I got so frustrated with my little 1/32 snappers only having a sump, and seeing you 1/25 guys building your engines, that I decided to build an engine for myself. I have a great fondness for the old Cummins 855 (or 14litre) series, so I wanted one of them. It's going in my W900 Aerodyne and it's in the WIP for that truck, but I just thought it's taken about three weeks of consistent effort and I'm so, so pleased with the end result that I think it deserves an Under Glass of its own. Except for the sump and a 1/25 AN fitting at the end of the oil pick-up pipe, everything is hand formed from plastic card, sprue or tube and wire. The belts are elastic thread and electrical tape. The main dimensions were taken from the AMT W900 engine block. I created a spreadsheet that took the 1/25 measurements and converted them to 1/32. I suppose I could have just bought one from a 3D printist but I'm too cheap for that and I do like a challenge. 7

leafsprings Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 I'm embarrassed, that's more detail than I put into my 1/25 engines. Great work! 1
vincen47 Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) Those 1/32 trucks kits should have been made with engines. You’ve shown that a lot of detail can be done in 1/32. Nice upgrade to the kit. Edited May 8, 2023 by vincen47 1
J.B. Customs Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 I have watched since you started I need to get frustrated absolutely fantastic 1
Rockford Posted May 8, 2023 Author Posted May 8, 2023 Thanks for your kind comments lads. I still look at it and think "did I do that?"
55pete351 Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 That is some great scratch building !! I did the same thing with a Cummins KTA-600 in 1/25. When you can not find what you want it is worth a try. A tip I learned from drawing was breaking things down into simple shapes. It helped alot! Great job!
Rockford Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 Thanks very much. I did similar with this. Started with a basic box and built layer upon layer. I'd like to see your KTA.
