  1. That is some great scratch building !! I did the same thing with a Cummins KTA-600 in 1/25. When you can not find what you want it is worth a try. A tip I learned from drawing was breaking things down into simple shapes. It helped alot! Great job!
  2. Excellent build !! I think you nailed old school. The colors really are perfect with all the other details.
  3. Thanks for the replies! Roger-I knew Auslowe had some 1/16 parts available but the tires they show for sale look to be kit tires. Denny- those tires look great! I will do some measuring once I have the aluminum rims to confirm that they will work. Your Cummins 855 is an awesome looking kit! Great website!
  4. Does anyone make any nice aftermarket steer and drive tires for the 1/16 scale model truck kits? I recently found out about M&R wheels who offer aluminum rims, hubs, and brake drums through vincen47 on another post here. The kit tires are not to scale and lack a lot of detail.
  5. I had trouble finding what I wanted when scratch building a 1/25 long wheelbase resin model. I ended up taking 7/16 I beam and cutting off two of the ears. It is a pain but it worked. I think it would work fine as frame extenders as well. You would want to add where there was crossmember support or a hidden area. You could then add strips of plastic or brass to make it stronger. I have seen other builders here do that. Hope this helps and good luck.
  6. Thanks Chris, I have talked to Doug about his wheels and plan on getting a couple sets. I will have to contact Jamie to see what he has available. Thanks for your response. Again great KW project..
  7. Chris, great project I am enjoying following along. I wanted to ask about the tanks that you got from Jamie, did you have to contact him to get them? I don't see them on his site. Also the aluminum wheels you have look great who did you get them from? Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work!
  8. Thanks again Clayton, I sure appreciate it ! DRIPTRIOT71, Thanks for that photo it is the clearest one I have been able to view!! LOL! You wouldn't by chance have an under cab side view of how the mount goes on to the spring perch/rail??
  9. Thank you Clayton! I appreciate it! There are not a lot of these trucks around anymore to look at like there used to be.
  10. I have built several of the AMT Peterbilt 352's and have been disappointed with the cab hinge assembly. Using brass and Plastruct I have tried different ideas but they look bulky and over scale. I have found photos of the front spring hanger, bumper brackets, and front crossmember but no luck on the actual hinges. I am hoping to get some pictures to try to create something more realistic to the real truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
  11. I have one of these in my stash I built years ago. I really enjoyed the build of this kit, be nice to see some reissues. Looks great and the kit bashing is cool with the Cummins. Keep up the great work.
  12. Amazing work !! What do you plan on using to replace the rivet detail?? I will be following along!
  13. Chirs that's an AWESOME 65 ! The hood is in my opinion uses the two best hood scoops ever put on Ford/Mercury products...and its my favorite color.. Black!
  14. One of my dream engines ! Not only in modeling but 1:1, right up there with the 427 SOHC for coolness and WOW factor ! Great job keep up the good work!!
  15. I would certainly be interested in a modern Alcoa 10 hole rim and some better modern full size tires- steer and drives-in urethane. The kit pieces in the Monogram kit just do not cut it and wheels and tires make the model. A supplier on Shapeways does a 2 hole, 5 hole, 10 hole Peterbilt, and I believe Dayton spokes ..just an FYI. As far as price KJ my two cents is to work it all out and don't worry about the cost, you have to make money at this..once you have a cost maybe start a list of interested parties then go from there. You are a reputable supplier with quality parts and I'm sure that they would sell !! I would be in for two sets of wheels, steer tires, and drive tires for my two 1/16 projects.
  16. Plus one on KJ's method ! it has worked really well for me. I would like to try brass especially when using heavier resin parts. Is there any tutorials available?
  17. Steve, keep up the great work on this kit ! I have one I bought years ago plus was given the yellow GT model from a fellow modeler who wasn't interested, It may be disproportionate in a lot of ways but it is still a cool model. I think all you have done really adds to this kit so keep going!! I know I will be watching to see what you do next.
  18. I'm a Ford guy so the 67-8 & 69-70 Mustang fastbacks for me. I think if they even made one of each body style say a 67 & 69 the modeler would have the option to create several different models. If the aftermarket casters jumped in you could have a conversion for a 68 &70. Then all the Shelby options. Same way for the 67-69 Camaro/Firebird, 67-69 Chevelle, 68-70 Dodge Charger etc..
  19. Your welcome Ted. I forgot to mention Ebay too once in awhile custom made parts will pop up. Working on a model of my 1:1 68 Mustang fastback and needed a teardrop hood, happened upon one there but the cost and quality wasn't very good so I scratch built one. I cant believe no one has done photo etch for this scale- grilles, emblems, and trim would really make these model stand out. I'm researching the process with Shapeways and think it would be a great resource to get what you need plus make it available to other modelers. Anyone know of a photo etch supplier who would want to do detail kits?? Great idea to get a list together if I run across anything else I will be sure to post !
  20. I wanted to ask if anyone has tried the fiber optic as lighting especially in the cab or on a trailer?? Leaning toward the SMD LEDs looks like they would be easier to position. The fiber optic doesn't look like it is too flexible. Any thoughts??
  21. I too have been looking for someone who supplies 1/18 parts. Shapeways has some nice drilled rotors and calipers, carburetors, drag type radial tires, race seats, rear axles just a few things I found on a search of there site. Hope this helps.
  22. Thanks for the information, I will check their site and see if I can find the set #. Looking forward to seeing the wiring and plumbing progress. I have never tried to do this but would like to attempt it.
  23. I missed that entirely..lol. I see it now that you pointed it out. Don't remember seeing to many of these in the day. Very cool project there, sounds like a lot more work than even scratch building the cabovers!
  24. Great job on all the detailing and scratch building !! The Meng nut and bolt details are a great product and I think very easy to use. I started using them on a scratch built stretch frame for a Peterbilt project and am very happy with them. I wanted to ask about the open nuts are they Meng also?? These would make it easy to glue lines in for air hose plumbing.
  25. Great to hear about all your progress Mark ! So 3 cabs, 1 will be the Monument Valley, 1 will be a Black Star ... What surprise do you have in store for us for the 3rd??
