Tiny Lund 1963 Daytona 500 winner

This is my second build of this car. I started with the AMT 63 1/2 ford galaxie. Back seat and tranny hump has been removed and replaced with styrene and putty. Roll cage IS PPP. I used sheet aluminum to fashion door panels and use one of my own resin seats.  The floor pan was cut out on both sides to accommodate the exhaust running through the frame rail. The engine has been moderately plumbed. I used 1/16th chartpak crepe tape and wrapped the steering wheel and roll cage. Paint is MCW enamel white and Rangoon red topped with automotive 2K. I like it.

That race was an interesting story. The week before the race, Tiny didn't even have a ride for the 500. The Wood Brothers regular driver was injured and suggested they get him to drive.

Thanks. That was interest. Marvin Panch crashed his Maserati and it caught on fire. Tiny pulled him out of the burning car with the help of another. Panch was so grearful he spoke to the Woods and told them to give his ride to Tiny.

Excellent job, Robert. Really like the detailing you added, and the paint looks beautiful. So glad to see more vintage 60's Nascar racers being done. I believe that was my favorite time for Nascar because I was almost being a teenager and then into my teenage years. Thats when you really start to get interested in what you like in life.

Beautifully done Robert. The thin tape around the steering rim is spot on and the finishes you produced for the grille and bumpers give it that perfect weathered look usually seen on these race cars.

Steering wheels were often wrapped with old fan belts and had friction tape over that, It was all about the grip.

Those are old JnJ decals with various scrap decals for contingencies. I had 1 set of Yesterdays which I built for myself last year. These were in bad shape. I had to turn them over and wipe the yellow, clumpy glue off them with a wet q tip. Then I applied them with mr. Mark setter.
