Guest JamesDE Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I just caught this, but glad I did in time.... This is turning out sweet!!! Im liking it even more than the Ford Crew Cab that you did.... Keep up the great work...
Romell R Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) First let me thank David G and JamesDE for there comments..... Now I have some new post for ya. I was gonna paint today but I changed my mind about the type of paint I want to use for this build. I was going to use those new testers custom paints but to tell you truthfully I dont like using spray can paints. Im more comfortable with HOK and laying down a 3 part paint job. so I called my buddys at pegasis hobbys and had them send me some Sunset Gold, clear, a platinum silver base, and the blackest black that HOK makes LOL! so in the mean time I stripped the chrome off some parts and re-chromed them with Alclad. I feel like Alclad is closer to scale chrome than the chrome plate put on parts by the company (revell) so with all that said heres the pics. whew! The stripped bumpers and grill rechromed parts, I may hit em one more time... Edited June 21, 2010 by Aftashox
Romell R Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 I decided to go ahead finish up the grill while I was at it.....enjoy! here the grill with insert and SS badge

Romell R Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Todays Update is the dash gauges . I started by polishing up two different size bezels. then I carefully cut out my gauge imprints from this photo card.(going with the white faced gauges) Then i used Tamiya clear to hold the two together and make the lenses at the same time. all I have to do now is trim and apply to the dash.
Romell R Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 he does have a workbench nice trick with the Tamiya clear Dave Ha Ha I slipped that one in on ya LOL! talk to ya soon Dave

Can't wait to see the end result. Heck I just can't wait till the next update.
highway Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Do you use the Tamiya clear to attach the bezels to the dash, too? I've heard of using clears to attach photoetch, but I've never tried it.
Romell R Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Do you use the Tamiya clear to attach the bezels to the dash, too? I've heard of using clears to attach photoetch, but I've never tried it. Actually i wont use the clear to attach to the dash I'll use a small spot of CA. But I will use HOK clear when I attach the chevelle badges to the body after its painted. You use clear on body parts and on parts that glue may compromise. thx for your question Highway

Romell R Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 As you know I started my paint job with a silver base coat by HOK, So now its time to have some fun I made some flame mask and masked the car up. before spraying. I'll be making ghost flames in the paint. my first color coat is SunSet gold by HOK and I'll spray 3-5 wet coats dependig on how visable i want the flames to be....enjoy! here you see the masking before color coat. here I have sprayed the first color coat... now I remove the flame mask and wait 15mins for the paint to flash and spray a second coat. the mask off and were ready for the next coat....
Romell R Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Here you can see the second coat has been applied and you can still see the flame pattern. this is after the third coat...you can see the flame starting to get less visable And now after the forth coat the flame is almost a ghost. I still have some wet sanding to do and I also have one more color I want to add so stay tuned....

Chuck Most Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Dude- that green Ford Super Duty was one of the baddest models I've ever seen. This Chevelle looks like it might even top that!!!! Killer work! I can only hope your 1:1 Chevelle turns out as cool as the model is shaping up to be!
