Quick GMC Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I started this a while ago and abandoned it about a year ago because I just flat out suck at painting bodies. I'm getting better and forcing myself to practice with my new airbrush and I hope posting this will get me a bit motivated to finish. I have a lot of time invested in this and I'll be damned if me being lazy will ruin it. Nothing too crazy. I am using Tamiya and Scale Motorsport photo etch kits. Lot's of good stuff, including polished metal exhaust tips. Here it is next to the Fujimi 1/16 Getting started Getting ready for Alclad Alclad done. Too bad the real thing doesn't look like this because I kind of wanted to leave it alone.
Quick GMC Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 Brakes Wheel nuts are part of the Tamiya (Monet Shell) kit painted with MM Metalizers Basic engine parts detailed, washed and dry brushed exhaust detailed A little overboard with the weathering, but if I had an F40 I'd drive that mother into the ground
Quick GMC Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 computer Pedals. These were a pain. I glued on the photo etch pieces, then drilled out each hole through the plastic. Then the photo etch faces fell off, then the plastic broke apart from all the holes and it had a hard time lining all the holes up again .The pedals gave me more trouble than everything...except the body..which has been painted and stripped 3 times.
Quick GMC Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 Here's another engine shot that shows the hose clamps on the intercooler hoses and some more parts added to the engine. I'll get some more pics tonight. The chassis has been covered with carbon and cleared with a dull coat. Oil lines added, engine installed and other parts.
jaymcminn Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Beautiful work on this kit so far. When I built mine, I couldn't bear to cover that body up with the Monte Shell decals, so I built it as a "body-in-white" car ready to be deilvered to a customer. Can't wait to see more progress on this one!

Can't wait to see more progress on this one! As much misery as I've had with my paint job I am considering a single color, but I have a 1/16 Competizione that I have tracked own a photo etch kit for, so I may do the Monte Shell on this one and do the generic version on the larger one.
Mauricio Meyer Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 that detail work and extras are looking just fine!! loved the interior wiring. very nice washes on the engine.
Foxer Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 That's some beautiful work! Detailing is so nicely done!
IMSANUT Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Very beautiful work. I have an IMSA spec Art Sports version that has been stalled for years. This may well make me get started again on that one! Following for certain.
MikeyB08 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Love it!! Truth be told, I love the grease weathering you did on the seat!! Personally, I had never seen that. Over all this build looks great!!
silverdreamss Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 wow great build on a very hard car to build right ......keep up the good work cant wait to see the paint job in red shine
Quick GMC Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Finally a little more on this. The next update will hopefully be a painted body. I did carbon decals on the underside with a flat clear finish. I have the trim on the glass painted, just need to paint the body, do the decals and the body fittings. 1
Jonathan Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Beautiful work! And I agree, "...if I had an F40 I'd drive that mother into the ground". Amen to that!
Speedpro Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Very nice detail work! Tamiya makes a nice kit. Should be killer when finished.
Terminator-Fox Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 WOW! I've wanted to buy this kit but I'm sure I couldn't build it as nice as you have. Fantastic work.
