Hey Gregg...don't worry I'm still a nice guy I hope to see you soon, with the move from up north, and my semi-retirement , been a lil hard to catch up with you. But don't you fret...if I don't see you at a show, when my wife and myself get over to the islands....I will let you know Bra!!! I just wanted people to see his work and if I know Dirk he would want people to get ideas, maybe try something new...to take that risk. On a side note, in the GENERAL section a topic has been started I think by member "HARRYPRI" on lathes/mills...all of Dirks work was done on a Sherline set up...if a Sherline was good enough for the late/great Mr. Augie Hiscano, and good enough for Dirk Joseph...its good enough for me.

HEY GUYS, ALOT OF YOU MAY KNOW THE WORK OF DIRK JOSEPH....AND SOME OF YOU MAY NOT. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE MET DIRK AT A LOCAL MODEL SHOW. DIRK HAS BECOME THE CONSUMATE FRIEND, TEACHER AND BROTHER. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO KNOW DIRK...YOU KNOW HE IS A VERY MODEST MAN AND NEVER, NEVER TOOTS HIS OWN HORN. HE IS ALWAYS THERE TO TEACH ANYONE "HOWD YOU DO THAT". I SPEAK TO DIRK PRETTY MUCH ON A DAILY TO WEEKLY BASIS, AND EVERYTIME I DO AND LISTEN TO HIM EXPLAIN HIS TIPS AND TECHNIQUES ON WHAT EVER MODEL HE MAY BE WORKING ON.....MAN OH MAN....IT JUST BLOWS ME AWAY. DIRK HAS NO IDEA THAT I AM POSTING THIS AND HE PROBABLY WOULDNT WANT ME TO... BUT SO MUCH OF WHAT HE BUILDS...TO BE HONEST IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR YOU COULD NEVER REALLY APPRECIATE OR RECOGNIZE ALL OF THE ENGINEERING, DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP THAT GOES INTO ONE OF HIS CREATIONS. WHEN YOU GO TO HIS FOTKI PAGE LOOK AT THE LATEST PROJECTS HE HAS GOING ON A 66 CHEVELLE AND A 1:12 DRAG BIKE. THEN HOPEFULLY THE NEXT TIME YOU MAY BE AT A MODEL SHOW AND COME ACROSS A DIRK JOSEPH ENTRY.....TAKE A REAL GOOD LOOK...THATS WHEN THE MAGIC STARTS....ENJOY. http://public.fotki.com/ScrappyJ/

Die Cast Vs. Styrene

I posted this in a similar topic.....I think it is sort of the same thing when a person who may purchase a fully restored car...he could just park it in his drive way and be done....or he could customize it and end up with something totally unique and kick a**.....to each his own..... -

I LOVE DIECAST.....and the reason being...there came a point in my model building that I just got really tired of seeing the same stuff year after year, reissue after reissue. So I began to look elsewhere for subject matter and I found it in Diecast. I totally understand why a lot of contest entering model builders have a hard time with seeing diecast entries....with some I do too...reason being most of the time just a simple wheel swap is all that is performed to that diecast, and then entered as if it was a built model....I'm not with that!!!!! But as I continue to build and modify diecast, and most of my builds are of the curbside genre...but I like to say they are curbside plus because they just aren't nice paint, wheels and dark tinted windows (not that there is anything wrong with that style) I just try to add a lil bit more. I do body mods, paint, interior and I just started some machining etc. I can remeber when in the early to mid 90's there were some shows not acknowledging low riders, and then it took a lil time for the tuners....all I'm saying is there is a lot of good diecast stuff out there...can it sometimes get pricey....oh yea but diecast is kool and I think it will be an imerging subject matter that we will be seeing more of on the contest level. On the same token does that mean I will never build plastic again...of course not, but it doesn't matter to me what that car or truck is made of...if I can use it or it looks good or it may something really different and kool, that I know I can't find it or ever will find it in plastic...guess what...I'm buying it, I may put it on the shelf or I may modify it and if possible....enter it

Yeah Gregg...you good people!!!! I mean you could have charged me alot more money to shoot my cars for the mag.....so yeah, you good people -
Well, as far as the exact age I was....can't do that. But it goes sort of like this, my Dad (RIP) was sort of a rennisance man...he could do it all!!!! And my Dad always took what ever intrest he was into at the time to the extreme. Anyways my Dad was into (some of you older guys might remember these) Motoreffic cars, he also did slots, Cox cars and choppers and would build these metal kits of Dusenbergs, early Fords, Chevys etc. I would say this was in mid to late 60's. Even back then my Dad was scratchbuilding, painting the cars in a friends body shop and so on. Well....my Dad would do everything stock, and his son...dats me, liked everything... hot rod....so when he was at work I would take these cars and jack up the suspensions (that was the style back then), take wider wheels and tires from where ever I could get them ie. Hot wheels, old diecast cars and then proceed to destroy my Dads creations. I would then hide them This went on for some time....until.....my Dad found my hiding place Well after the initial a** whipping I got....my Dad gave me his entire collection and said....."go to town son". Here I am, now 47 and I remember that day that moment like it was yesterday....I loved my Dad !!!! and if my son was to do the same thing to me as I did to my Dad you best belive the way my Dad brought me up and try to instill good qualitys, morals, and to be that ever loving always forgiving family man....... I'M GONNA WHIP HIS A**

I did 20 years as a NYC Police Officer. The last 10 years of my carrer was at a preceint in "Da Bronx" which had the highest homocide rate in NYC for approx. 6 years in a row . My carrer, to say the least was eventful. I was shot on two seperate occasions, stabbed once and on 9-11 when the second tower came down, as I was..... along with many other guys, pulling people out of there, I was struck with so much debris, I received a few stitches....4 screws in one knee and six in the other. The funny thing about that was ...yes I knew I was cut and needed stitches....didn't know till 4 days later (still working around the clock at the towers) that my knees sustained such injuries. Well to wrap this up I never took a dime of disability, even though I could of (because so many people gave up so much more) did my 20....and out I went. Currently all I do is move tractor trailers in the yard at UPS for about 4 hours a night. In closing, just as my time in the Police Dept. I met some bad people and a lot of good people...and the good people by far..... out weighed the bad! The same holds true for the people I have met in this hobby of ours. But I will say that Gregg is one of those "GOOD PEOPLE" -
Msd...photoetch...paging Mr. Thibodeau
BKIN10SECS replied to BKIN10SECS's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey 1320....I did see that set, and I thought that was what I was looking for. Thank you so much for confirming that. -
Can anyone advise me if their is any kind of photoetch detail that can be used for a MSD box. Or does anyone have any techniques on detailing one. I saw Mr. David Thibodeaus' Black Pearl and it stated that he topped the MSD boxes with photoetch plates. Along with the rest of the car it looked fantastic. Thanks.....

WOW.... that looks really good, would you mind if I ask a a few questions? how many coats did you shoot, time between coats... what psi do you shoot the clear through the air brush, and how much does it run you to purchase the PPG clear set up. Also did you wet sand the clear after applied. Thanks

Very nice subject matter....and your clean, clean building style comes shouting out...really good stuff.
