Cheating in Model Car Contests
BKIN10SECS replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Many good, true and valid points have been said, and yes I have seen these things happen, nuff said. Why do I buid...I LOVE CARS!!!!! I'm not gonna lie I like to win a trophy once in awhile ....but believe me I do not lose sleep if I don't. What I like even more is to get my car into the magazine why...because the magazine takes your creation and shares it with the rest of the world and what that does, and it has happen to me many a time..is I have met so many people who were familiar with my work because of the magazine. Which in turn, started a new friendship for sharing knowledge, techniques and many laughs . But as stupid as this may sound my biggest pleasure comes from being at a show, standing back and watching people walking up to my model and watching their reaction. Most of the time you can even read their lips and its kind of kool when I see the "WOW" or the even better "OH S**T" . So please everyone, you have all and I mean all have taught me some new technique or have inspired me to try something new. These certain issues will always be there and thats that. I am not trying to change anyones point of view you have the right to it and I respect it immensely but please never deprive the rest of us from seeing your work because of a few issues. You may not see the proper recognition deserved with winning a trophy, you may not see it in a magazine but believe me.....we see it, we know and we appreciate all the work and skill it took and I just want to say Thank You. -

If I may, so are you saying rather then degas your silicone at 29"...you should place the silicone and turn on the pressure. I can see why this would be easier but could you go into further detail as to psi and time under pressure. And then, would you still pressure cast the resin, for how long and what psi. Thanks -

Mr. Lombardo.....BRAVO, I was very excited when I signed on to the forum and saw that you posted progress on the subject. And once again, I am floored. Love the gullwing doors, love the 63 vette rear window but I really love the body side molding you added. I know you will be adding skirts but I must say, I like the no skirts look also. Sort of reminds me (with the no skirts) of the car Boyd did...I think it was a Dehay (sure I have spelled it wrong). The choice of two colors is a must and will you be using Viper interior? Anyways really enjoy this post, I really enjoy the scratch building techniques and execution, keep up the great work look forward to your next progress post. -
You mean to tell me you cant find something in that modeling room to repair that tendon....2 part putty ...get well soon.

Bill I just wanted to say THANKS. This post has been immensely helpful to all. The most interesting thing for me was the Future tip. Once again, I do a lot of bodywork and as I look over my models from years past...some have even won Best paint....if you look really really close....all of the body work has ghosted back. Since reading your tip I started to research and experiment.....and I love it. I know Future has been around and used in modeling for years but you were the first to show (me anyway) that it can be used as a sealer/barrier. I am currently working on a 67 Impala that I have converted to a 67 Biscayne pro touring (I know how you feel about the pro touring stuff ) and I can see the reason and results behind using it this way. And I will say that of all the models I have built I really do feel that this one has the best body work, primer and surface to start applying that smooth and mile deep finish of any model I have built......Thanks again Bro

YEAH BOOOOOYYYYYY. Man I am so happy for ya....she looks great!!!!!!! Like I have stated before, I love this post. I would say that your first attempt at the vacuum forming was a success and I am sure the reason why it was such a success was because you had a lil help from your son, making sure daddy didnt mess up You think you could post a pic of your vacuum forming box....would love to see it. And if for some CRAZY reason you ever wanted to get rid of those bucs....let me know a $$$$. Lets hope for more no golf rainy days -
Looks like someone been taking painting lessons from Seeds Really nice painting there...looking good.

Fantastic vision, fantastic execution, fantastic results....when you really think about it, this started as a block of wood...man oh man. I will tell you this is my favorite post going. I am so impressed with the info Treehugger has given you and I am so interested to see how you will take on the vacuum forming...Rock on brother -
If I may offer a couple of other suggestions. Purchase the video "How to set up and operate the Sherline Lathe". It is by a Mr. Mike Rehmus....very helpfull, you can get it from Sherline....also check Youtube you can always find tips and suggestions and it is always nice to see the machines actually being used. You will also have to start purchasing measuring tools ie. calipers, micrometers etc. Good Luck buddy

Happy birthday to Mr. Bill !

Happy Birthday.....and many many more.... -
The one car that comes to mind at a very early stage of really trying to take my building to a higher level was Posies yellow 37 Ford coupe. He took that car and put sort of a bubble top on it, not the standard roof or chop top everyone else was doing before that. It changed the whole dynamics of the vehicle. I incorporated the same thing on a 62 Johan Plymouth Fury. The year was 1994 and it was the NNL EAST, the first time I entered anything in a show. Then one day I was looking through Custom Rodder magazine, Rick Hanmore use to have a Custom Rodder In Scale section in the back of the magazine and POW...there was my model the first time ever in a magazine with words from Rick that said "it was his favorite custom rod (thats what they called before Pro Touring) at the show"....thats it, I was hooked..... like a fat kid loves cake
