  1. If I may ask Mike, what kind of training and or schooling do you have. It seems to incorporate many different aspects of design and fabrication.
  2. "I wont have to worry about paint being scraped off from the motion of the pistons and crank". GET OUT......"motion of the pistons and crank" Is the nickle silver costly and are there any advantages over 6061 as far as machining is concerned.
  3. Thanks Shucky....very helpful just ordered a set.
  4. I too have followed this build somewhere elseB) there is so so much more to this car....crazy!!!
  5. You got it Mike and yes Dirk, has also taught me so much. As a matter of fact I will be over his house tomorrow trying to absorb as much as I can. Just one question, your block is 6061 correct? because in the last pics it almost looks like all brass. Dirk has been trying to get me to the Atlanta NNL for years now but it has always been a time issue for me but maybe one day and hopefully I will get the opportunity to meet you.
  6. Hey Shucky thanks for posting this, if you could do me one favor, could you post the height, width and the diameter of the opening for the rim on that pro stock tire...it would be greatly appreciated. And are these resin tires? Thanks Bro
  7. Hello Mr. Mike, we have never met, but I do think that we have a friend in common...Dirk Joseph. Dirk has been the reason I have tried and I want emphasize the use of the word "tried", to bring my modeling to a higher level. Dirk is the reason for my purchasing a Sherline lathe/mill, I have built a pressure/vacuum tank for resin casting my own parts, I have built a vacuum forming box, paint booth and have just started my first complete brass tube chassis (going under a 1970 Toyota Corolla drag car) etc. Dirk first mentioned you (and he always had good things to say) when you were fortunate enough to have obtained the lathe of the great Augie Hiscano. I have watched your posts over the years and I will say this....your skills as a machinists in such a short period of time exhibits such a level of professionalism that it is truly outstanding! The items that really peak my interest are things such as your planning, the way your worked is secured ( I really like the collet in the block that can be secured in the vise), the way you machined the sine blocks (the blocks themselves are beautiful) for the angles in the engine, the way you use terms as "qualified" and the reason why it is needed, the .125 linen phenolic, I have no idea what this is but I totally understand the concept behind using it, the use of nickle and brass etc. etc. It is very clear that you have had some professional training in machining, design, CAD and probably CNC. The reason why I say this is because your work speaks for itself AMAZING!!!!!! I have no qualms about saying this...you my friend have become a serious, serious force to be reckoned with and in my humble opinion with what I have seen here...one of this country's BEST MODEL CAR BUILDERS....amazing work. PS. where could I sign up when you decide to teach your own classes on the subjects I mentioned above, or put out some DVDs.....I'm serious!!!!
  8. Hmmmmm....sounds interesting. Are you going to give it a go and if so....please let us know what happens
  9. Drop dead gorgeous....so subtle and yet such a strong visual impact....fantastic job
  10. Can any one tell me what and if there is a Toyota kit with an actual twin turbo motor, ie. Supra or Toyota race car. Just received my Doyusha 1970 Toyota Corolla coupe from Japan. I was going to do a 13b or 20b but I'm thinking maybe I should go all Toyota so the first thing that came to mind was a twin turbo Supra motor. I'm planning on doing a super detailed old school drag car. Even though I know it would never be ready for the Import Drag contest, but the contest has got my creative juices flowing. This will be my first attempt at a super detail build, ie. machining, brass work etc. Any info on these motors and possible opitions will be greatly appreciated .
  11. Could you post pics when it is done. Thanks
  12. Thanks buddy....well I will be looking for the 13 b out of the Tamiya kit, I tried The Parts Box....but their website seems to be down....hey you wouldn't want to sell the one you have posted do you I'm serious Thanks
  13. Shucky that is one sweet looking motor. May I ask you a few questions...did you machine your pulleys? Your hose couplings, is it just paint over the tubing and if so what color and paint are you using. And lastly what and how do you get those very realistic looking clamps. Thanks for any info you can provide .

  22. I just wanted to Thank You to Ryan Silva And ModelMatrin for the advise on using pressure to the RTV and resin instead of vacuum.....WOW its like night and day....easier, cheaper and really the first resin casted parts that I have been happy with the results.....Thanks fellas....I'm a casting fool now
  23. Many good, true and valid points have been said, and yes I have seen these things happen, nuff said. Why do I buid...I LOVE CARS!!!!! I'm not gonna lie I like to win a trophy once in awhile ....but believe me I do not lose sleep if I don't. What I like even more is to get my car into the magazine why...because the magazine takes your creation and shares it with the rest of the world and what that does, and it has happen to me many a time..is I have met so many people who were familiar with my work because of the magazine. Which in turn, started a new friendship for sharing knowledge, techniques and many laughs . But as stupid as this may sound my biggest pleasure comes from being at a show, standing back and watching people walking up to my model and watching their reaction. Most of the time you can even read their lips and its kind of kool when I see the "WOW" or the even better "OH S**T" . So please everyone, you have all and I mean all have taught me some new technique or have inspired me to try something new. These certain issues will always be there and thats that. I am not trying to change anyones point of view you have the right to it and I respect it immensely but please never deprive the rest of us from seeing your work because of a few issues. You may not see the proper recognition deserved with winning a trophy, you may not see it in a magazine but believe me.....we see it, we know and we appreciate all the work and skill it took and I just want to say Thank You.
  24. DamnCranky....that Nomad is.......DamnNice
