  1. I've always been told to use a yellow base coat under red to make it really pop and be bright. Red over gray primer, particularly dark gray primer, can be darker and not as vibrant. Funny thing about red.... Anything will bleed through it and it will bleed through anything!
  2. That old kit is a real turd, but you made it look pretty darn good! I like the contrast of the oxide primer floor pan.
  3. Somebody has too much money (and free time). I'm more impressed by a working Joe who manages to eek a couple box stock kits out between work, kids, bills, and work.
  4. I'll 2nd that, this is a great kit, and the COPO version is pretty good to though it doesn't have some of the race parts the Special Edition has, it does have sweet dog dish hubcaps, bench seat and a big block. Either way you can't miss with a Revell Nova.
  5. That looks sweet!
  6. And around and around we go... wouldnt have expected this thread to be longer than one or two replies. Guess I didnt realize it would be a polarizing hot button. Cant ask a simple question without stirring the pot!
  7. Looks pretty good to me! The wheels you seek come on early 90's AMT Camaro promos, and I think there was a convertible 25th anniversary kit with them as well.
  8. I woulda taken the thirty percent on the kit and picked up a new airbrush for fifty!
  9. Oh Yea, the Love Bug is by far my favorite of the Herbie movies, the other ones aren't bad. Love the vintage racing action in that one. Not a huge fan of the remake though!
  10. Those 500's from the GTX look out of place to me. Otherwise it looks pretty good!
  11. I spy a blue '65 tow rig.. More pics of that?
  12. I'd rather see an original crazy design from GM and Ford. Rehashed 5+ year old Aston and Ferrari designs are not cool. Might asgo well be a Lambo body kit onit a Fiero. Retro is still very much alive, I don't know why they wouldn't capitalize on that with an even more retro look for the next gen. People looking for a European supercar are not going to buy a US knockoff, and people who want an American pony car don't know want wannabe European styling.
  13. Dig the shaved fender louvers. Next time shave the copyright off the chassis too! Seriously though, it looks real good. I like that blue color alot, and the silver painted chrome bits. Kinda turns the volume down on it. Kit chrome looks cheap and toy like, that silver paint makes it look good!
  14. Question I've always had about building a track... What do you use for the slot and the rails? is it just a notch in the wood surface that you lay strips of metal (brass or?) in for contact rails and a notch between them for the pin or is there stuff made specifically for that?
  15. I use this chart on Wikipedia to figure out what size wire is what. Most battery cables are around 1 gauge or so, which is about .2893", .2893/25 is about .0115", and that is about 28 or 29 gauge wire. Armed with this info I hit the jewelry isle at the craft store and pickup some bead wire on the cheap! Some common real sizes for things are: Battery cables 2-0 gauge wire Fuel line 5/16-1/2" Plug wires 5mm-8mm Heater hoses 1/2-3/4" Brake lines 3/16-1/4
  16. When hood ornaments were cool? You mean they aren't now?!?
  17. Yea there were quite a few like that, it was popular for some reason or other for quite a while in the 80's. Whatever they are I'm thinking those Champ 500's from MAD look just about right to stand in for them.
  18. I don't think this one has been mentioned, but "It's a Mad Mad World" is an all time favorite too!
  19. The entire original Gone in 60 Seconds, followed by every episode of CHiPs, followed by most of Used Cars (not really a chase scene in the classic sense, but cool),, then any kind of automobile scene in The Munsters, particularly the one where Herman is testing out Eddie's go cart. The chase scenes in Terminator and Terminator 2 are pretty good too, the semi truck bearing down on them is pretty awesome.
  20. No, but it was easy to modify. I dipped the ends of the a arms and spindles in warm water and twisted them around until it looked about right.
  21. Much as I'd love to get a new 1/8 Iroc-Z it ain't every gonna happen...
  22. My dad got me started. He built models when he was a kid and continued off and on his whole life. When I was very young he would pretty much build the models for me, but as I got older he did less and less of the work and "let" me do more . We didn't get nuts detailing them or making them uber accurate, we just built to build. Heck some of my first ones we didn't even paint! I'll never forget building models with dad, balsa airplanes, rockets, cars, pine wood derby, it was great to have a dad to do that stuff with.
  23. Darn... Nobody ever knows what these are, other than Progressive. Whatever they are, MAD makes some resin wheels that are darn close, the holes are a little big maybe and the center cap is not quite right but I'm pretty sure MCG or somebody makes photo etched spinners that would pretty much be spot on! http://www.madmodeling.com/store/ccp0-prodshow/champ500.html
  24. Looks exactly like my friend Gary's Boss! He bought it brand new in '70, traded in an SS396 Chevelle. Can you imagine living in a time when you could do that???
  25. How about the Ferrari and Lambo kits for Firebirds and Fiero's? Don't see many of those around, which is probably just fine! Likewise with the Rollswagon cars like Willie Mays Hays had in Major League http://imcdb.org/i045610.jpg
