  1. Thanks, Jim and David! I appreciate your comments! Jim, I am glad you're seeing it in purple because my computer and camera are in blue for the most part. David, I guess the driver would have to shift to neutral before starting to brake to brace with the left foot. Otherwise, it could be a jerky or abrupt stop sliding forward with a foot on the clutch and the other on the brake. I found a radiator with an electric fan incorporated on it. I shortened it a bit and will paint it so that I don't need to find a fan. the interior is done but not without some difficulty. First, I had sprayed the old decals with a coat of clear lacquer hoping that it would help them not breaking apart. I cut the six white gauge decals and applied them and put a brush of Micro Sol on each one. I then left and let them dry for about an hour. When I returned all looked good except the Speedo which is the large left gauge. It hadle up in kind of an arc. So i gently touched it with a wet brush and it disintegrated into a million little pieces! So after removing it I then found an old Fred Cady decal that I had used for Indy race cars, a two piece decal, white back and black front that sort of looked like a speedo and used it. look too bad but this buggy is moving at about 70 mph! I bent a straight pin for the shifter because the kit piece was unusable and found a banjo steering wheel in the parts box. I cut the clear acetate in the kit after cleaning it as well as possible, but I had to do the cutting using the windshield frame because the pattern in the instructions was too small for the frame. Mirror foil on the mirror and it is done! I also had to touch up the windshield frame with a Molotow pen to repair the chrome finish that was chipped off. Thanks for looking! ?
  2. Thanks, Jim! I appreciate your comment! Finished the chassis, wheels and tires and the engine is in. Now I just have to finish the interior bucket and this one will be on the way to being done. The chassis was very fiddly but I managed to get it together despite the poor instructions. I don't know how anyone could stay on the bench seat in this one without sliding off! And yes, the paint is purple and maybe I can get some outdoor photos when I'm done. Thanks for looking! ?
  3. I built the engine and decided not to add plug wires. This will just be an Box Stock build. No fan in the box and not included in instructions. The radiator, however, doesn't have an electric fan. Maybe I'll add a fan. I took two photos and you can kinda see the purple in the brighter photo but the white bleaches out. Thanks for looking! ?
  4. Thanks, All! I'll try not to melt under the pressure! The right door opens on this one but it doesn't really hinge. It can be posed either open or closed. I could make a hinge but I'm just gonna leave it this way. The frame is quite a challenge and I guess I got too much paint on it. But not to worry, I have already sanded it off, re-primered and painted so it looks much better. I mocked it up a little to see how it will come together. I don't have metallic purple so I used Tamiya purple. Yes, my camera makes it look blue. Guess I'll try to find another camera setting. The white is Tamiya white primer and the red block is Dupli-Color Bright Red. Thanks for looking! ?
  5. Thanks, Jim, Mike, and Mike! I appreciate your comments!
  6. This is the next build. I bought this at a model contest this year thinking that I would like to build a T-bucket. I may have picked the wrong one to build. This is a kit that was manufactured in 1999 and it is showing. The chrome tree is starting to peel. I have already stripped chrome from 7 pieces and it may become more. The very short frame had 4 sink marks on the left side and three on the right. I forgot to take a picture before I puttied it up but you can see that almost the entire length of the frame is puttied. Lots of flash as well. I don't know if I'll find anything else but I am wary. Thanks for looking! ?
  7. Back in business! Look forward to your next paint on this one!
  8. This is the Revell Special Edition kit. Painted Dupli-Color Bright Platinum Metallic and Bright Red. The Impala decal on the rear side is missing since it wouldn't register on this color paint. Plug wires and heater hoses added in the interior. Wheels are from the Ford Thunderbolt kit and tires are from Fireball Modelworks with painted red lines. The red side stripe was brush painted and trimmed with BMF. BMF inside and out. Thanks for looking! ?
  9. Thanks, Jeremy and Carl! I appreciate your comments! This one is done! I did brush some Dullcote on the taillight panel with mixed results to make it look more like aluminum. The Impala decal on the rear side is missing because I couldn't even find it to straighten it up on this silver paint, so I removed it. Otherwise, everything went fine on final assembly. Thanks for looking! ?
  10. Thanks, Jim, Jeremy and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Windows are in, body and wheels are on. I had also finished the front end but the bumper is crookerd so I'll have to remove it and try again! Thanks for looking! ?
  11. The body is looking good, Bob! I think you've got it and its ready for primer! ??
  12. Thanks, Jim, Mike and Bob! I appreciate your comments! I found some wheels and tires. The tires are a set I bought a couple of years ago from Fireball Modelworks. They are soft, solid redline tires. I painted the red lines. I've been trying to use them but haven't had the right application yet. The wheels are from Revell Ford Thunderbolt. There are two sets of wheels in the kit that are big and littles. But if you have two kits, and don't use the wheels then you have 4 sets of wheels of the same size. These are the littles from two kits. So I thought these wheels which fit the tires very well along with the red lines would look good with the red interior and red stripe on the side. I'll blackwash them to give them more definition. Let me know what you think. I have also added two photos of the engine with a better camera setting that you can actually see something. Thanks for looking! ?
  13. Thanks, Jeremy, Jim, and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Jim, wheels are next. I've got to rummage through the tire and wheel parts boxes. I like this type of assembly as it allows the engine, chassis and interior to be completed as one unit. That way I can connect the heater hoses and radiator hoses without the body on and getting in the way. I added clear green to the water bottle with a brush that I will have to clean up a little on the right side and made a bracket for the heater hoses from BMF. On to wheels and windows! Thanks for looking! ?
  14. Looking good, Bob! I more application of Easy-off for about 24 hours, then hot water and a toothbrush and you should be ready to rough up with some wet sand paper and be ready to go with a new primer coat. I'd use a gray primer first before thinking about a white primer. If your going with a maroon color you really don't need a white primer. Good work!
  15. Thanks, Jim, Sonny, Bob, Samuel and Joe! I appreciate your comments! The engine is done. I added plug wires and was going to add a fuel line but its not worth the trouble and you won't see much. I added a couple of 409 decals from Keith Marks but they wouldn't fit above the Chevy emblem. I'll add some blackwash to the trans and exhausts. I've drilled holes for the heater hoses that I'll add later. Thanks for looking! ?
  16. If you don't get it all off and have some stubborn spots, spray it again and let it sit another day. Paint is stubborn but it will come off. Good luck!
  17. Try some Easy Off oven cleaner. You can even use some fume free oven cleaner. Just spray it good and put it in your covered plastic container for a couple of days. Lift one corner to get some air in. it might take a couple of days but I think you have a good start on getting a lot off. it only needs a little more time. Wash it off under hot water in the sink and it should get most of it off. Tamiya will come off. I unfortunately have done it many times. I like the oven cleaner better as it works a little faster than Super Clean.
  18. Thanks, Jim, Carl, and Samuel. I appreciate your comments! Jim, I haven't looked for wheels yet but I am sure that I have a set of chrome 5 spoke mags in the parts box. The bigger issue will be fitting them to the tires in this kit or finding another set of tires that will work. I have been working slowly on the interior since it is so hot out I really don't want to have to paint another one in this heat. I've been watching a lot of baseball too so that has slowed me down. I have finished the interior but not without some missteps. I tackled the seat insert decals first and noticed that one of the seat decals was all one piece for the seat bottom and back. So I used the other two-piece decal to measure and cut the one piece decal before I got started. My mistake was assuming that the one piece decal was for the back seat. I don't know why I didn't look at the instructions, I usually look at them to get the lay of the land but this time I didn't. I had to trim the decal that I put on the back seat as it was too big. When I put the two-piece decal on the front seat I noticed that it was a bit short. That's when I looked at the instructions and realized that I had reversed the front and rear seat decals. But it was too late to change anything so I made the best of a not so good situation. They look fine if you don't look at the trim borders on the seats too closely. The rest was pretty straight-forward. I dullcoted the chrome pieces for the dash to look more like aluminum, foiled the steering wheel, seats and door panels, and added all the decals. The interior is done. Thanks for looking! ?
  19. Thanks, Jim, David, Jeremy and Joe! I appreciate your comments! I kinda regret painting it bright silver now. I can't see the chrome foil! Maybe I should have used a darker color of silver? But all the foil on the body is done! I'll tackle the interior next.
  20. Good call, Bob! After almost 30 years of painting and building, I have yet to diagnose what happened to a paint job after the fact. Some work out fine and some don't. I'm sure your next shot at this one will be fine! ?
  21. Wow! The chrome and the paint on the body and fenders really looks good, Guy! I wish I could paint like that! ??
  22. Thanks, Todd, Jeremy, and Jim! Jim, you are right - I probably will go with some mags with this Impala. And as Todd pointed out, I already have a 63 Biscayne from MCW that I built several years ago that has dog dish hubcaps. This is the only resin kit I have built because I wanted a replica of the car I drove in college for 4 years. I commuted everyday and also used it to get to my job in the summertime and dates on the weekends. I drove it at least 40 miles everyday on the commute good weather or bad and only had to do oil changes, plugs and points occasionally. My dad bought for me from a older woman whose husband had died and she only drove it to church and the grocery store. So in 1969 it was still low miles and was in good shape. It was drab green and had a radio, heater and 283. Not much to look at but a great car! So my build was as I remember it. I don't know if it is unusual for a Biscayne to have a 283. Maybe it was a Bel Air but I think it was a Biscayne but its been too many years ago and i don't have any photos. I also have built the 62 convertible and I have another one somewhere but I can't readily find it. And finally, I have some photos of my progress on this hardtop. I taped off the side stainless and brush painted the insert with some Testors square bottle red that I thinned. I peeled off the tape before the paint was dry so I wouldn't pull paint and let both sides dry overnight. This morning I trimmed it with BMF on the right side. It turned out pretty good so here are the photos. Thanks for looking!
  23. Thanks, Glen, Carl, and Jim! I appreciate your comments! How about a nice Dupli-Color Bright Platinum Metallic! I haven't done a silver one in a while and i noticed there were quite a few silver 62 Chevys with red interiors on the internet. I'm going to add a red stripe on each side inside the stainless but first I want to rub it out to make sure its smooth. I think I got pretty lucky since the finish is pretty smooth already and I haven't noticed any blotchy spots as can often happen with silver. I may go with red steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps but not sure yet. The interior and wheels are painted Dupli-Color Bright Red. Thanks for looking! ?
  24. This is my next build, a Revell Special Edition kit. I bought it at the last contest thinking that I had built it before and I knew I had an extra one in the closet. I normally buy a kit and if I like building it, I buy it again while its still on the shelves and store it away in the closet. I thought that I had built it before but I couldn't readily find it on my shelves and in cases. Then I got smarter and thought to check my Built Models List that I keep up to date from time to time. Its contains 320 models that have built. I have two 62 Chevy Convertibles but no hardtops on the list. So apparently I haven't built it. So l am going to get started! I haven't decided on a color yet. Any suggestions? Thanks for looking!
  25. Thanks, everyone! I appreciate all the very nice comments!
