  1. Thanks, Greg and Mike! I appreciate your comments! I only posted this one picture as I have a new computer and as with anything new there is a learning curve. And for me it has a long arc! I'll post additional pics later, I hope. Thanks for looking!
  2. Finished the interior. Not much to work with but Round2 did add a dash decal which is a first for me. It only broke in a couple of places but I managed to get it down and pieced back together. I added some foil, used black masking tape for the door line and center of the console. Some chrome from the chrome pen and its done. I thought about adding seat belts but they weren't required yet in 1964 and I didn't want to spend a lot of effort on this interior. So, it is what it is! Thanks for looking!
  3. Thanks all! I appreciate your comments!
  4. Thanks, Carl and David! I appreciate your comments! Finished the foil today. I'm glad that's done! I also sanded off the paint on the hood Oldsmobile letters. I couldn't get foil to stick before I painted so I just sanded down the paint and will leave them as is. I am not going to fool myself into thinking I can actually pick some chrome from the chrome pen onto the letters. It would end in weeping and gnashing of teeth. ☹️ Thanks for looking! ?
  5. Thanks, David, Tom, Mike and Stephen! I appreciate your comments! After I rubbed out the body, it took me about 4 hours to get these two strips of foil on the body. The foil fought me all the way. It may ber a little thick but its as small as I could get it. Such a shame, I would normally have the entire body foiled in 4-6 hours. Thanks for looking!
  6. Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! ?
  7. I'm sure you'll work out your paint issue MrMike! Looks good so far! ??
  8. Thanks, Bob and Misha! I appreciate your comments! I got on a roll yesterday and today and completed this one rather quickly! This is a curbside without an engine and the door panels had little, if any detail, so I didn't spend time on the interior. I decided to black out the side windows. I used the darkened paper glasses that you get when you get your annual eye check (or at least old people get every year). I don't like sunglasses so I don't have any but you these once a year to drive home. I save them for just this purpose. Limousine black window tint. Now I have a sister model to the Polar Lights 63 Nova SS kit that i built at least 20 years ago. The paint is the same color Nassau Blue Metallic, although it may be a little faded with age. Thanks for looking!
  9. I got some paint on this one so I can work on it next week while its rainy and cold. I had a suggestion of red and black, which I thought about, but went with a very, very dark blue. I thought a light blue would look good for the interior, but it was too bright for me so I changed it to a more neutral Khaki tan. So now all the parts are painted. I'll finish the 63 Nova first and then I'll have plenty of time to work on this one. Thanks for looking! ?
  10. Picked up the curbside edition of this 63 Chevy Nova wagon at WalMart. Also the 64 Olds Cutlass convertible that I already had to strip the Krylon paint from (I should know better by now). The satins are fine for interiors but the glosses just don't work on bodies. The Nova is painted with Testors Nassau Blue metallic, rubbed out and foiled (very tedious with this bad foil). The black and white added to the side trim were cut from decals. I thought about adding a six cylinder engine but I think I just waif and see if I can pick up the kit with the engine included. I don't know what color I'll paint the 64 yet. From pictures, it appears that colors are limited to white, black, red, light blue metallic or sun yellow. I'll have to re-visit the color chart again. Thanks for looking! ? Quote Reply to this topic... Go to topic listing Next unread topic
  11. Posted this in the wrong section. I have re-posted in WIPs. I don't know how to delete but administrator is welcome to delete!

  15. Another 57 Chevy is done! Sierra Gold and Adobe Beige via Tamiya Orange Metallic and Krylon Satin Almond.
  16. Thanks, Mike and David! I appreciate your comments! And another 57 Chevy is done!
  17. Thanks, Adam, Carl, and Joe! I appreciate your comments! I've gotten the hood to close a little better. Probably didn't sand enough plastic off the sides of the hood. I'm thinking that I will build this one with the hinges and the hood in the up position for several reasons. Its only a matter of time before I chip some paint off the hood edges if I leave it in the down position. I haven't ever built any model that way and I have a separate case that I can use for display. I'll probably never be satisfied with the hood bar alignment and there is nothing I can do about it at this point. So up it is! I screwed up the paint on the trunk when I was adding the V and Chevrolet script so I took off the hardware, sanded it down and re-painted the lower trunk portion. Today, I will remount the hardware and see if I can mount the trunk in the up position. The rest of the rear end is in pretty good shape. Finally, I tried to paint another body. Although I try not use Krylon on a body, from time to time I try to see if I can squeeze one out. So I painted a 64 Olds convertible with Krylon Gloss Bright Idea. Looked OK until I put Tamiya clear on it. They are both supposed to be lacquers but something is not compatible as I got some cracking and bubbling of the paint. I could sand it out but its on the sides in addition to this trunk lid, so into the purple pond it goes! I try again with some Tamiya paint. Thanks for looking! ?
  18. Thanks, Carl and Guido! I appreciate your comments! I've been painting while the weather is good so I haven't finished this 57 yet. I have made some progress on the front end. Couldn't get the left side the hood bar lined up with the extensions but I'll keep working on it. I also painted the body for the 63 Nova station wagon that I picked up at Walmart the other day. I used my last can of Testors Nassau Blue Metallic. Thanks for looking! ?
  19. Thanks, David! I appreciate your comment! Yes, I agree on the transmission mounts. More time should have been spent on on parts fit! Body is mounted with a little bit of coaxing and its on wheels. I also got smart and attached the engine compartment heater hoses and steering box before installing the radiator and hoses. Engine compartment is done. Its all over but the shouting! Thanks for looking! ?
  20. Interior is assembled and I also got the tires and wheel covers together. I trimmed the seats with foil but had to run a bead of Elmers glue along the seat edge before applying the foil. I would have trimmed it a little thinner but am afraid I would just peel off the foil. The steering wheel is too high but there is nothing I can do about that. The tires are from an old Jo-Han 69 Plymouth GTX kit and the imprinted whitewalls are out of round on a couple of tires so I hope I can hide them on the rear. I don't like the wide whites so I went with these. Thanks for looking! ?
  21. Engine is in and the chassis is done. The transmission mounts didn't work for me. I thought I had them glued in the right place and I had the engine in place but the transmisson mounts held the transmission too high and the driveshaft wouldn't go through the tunnel. So I removed the mounts and used a piece of .015" strip plastic across the chassis mounts and glued to the bottom of the transmission (photo is a little blurry). Other than that and the fact that each pin had to be trimmed and each receiving hole needed to be enlarged, it was an easy assembly! Thanks for looking! ?
  22. Thanks, Mike, Carl, and Steve! I appreciate your comments! Steve, I only did the insert in matte aluminum BMF. The trim around the insert is chrome BMF. I'm not sure what you mean by a seam. But I did cut the aluminum foil along the inside of the chrome trim before finishing with the chrome foil. Finished the engine. Somehow I managed to lose the fan belt. I remember I was thinning it down when I was interrupted one day. When I got back to the bench I pushed it aside and worked on something else. And it was never to be seen again! But I used one from a Revell Sedan kit and although it doesn't fit exactly, I made it work. I used a MAD pre-wired distributor and cut off the coil molded to the distributor in the kit and used it. Thanks for looking! ?
  23. Thanks, MrMIke! I appreciate your comment! Finished foil on the left side and window trim. Used matte aluminum foil for the rear fender insert. I'll add the gold scripts, lettering and front fender emblets once assembled. Still one of the most beautifully trimmed cars ever manufactured, IMO.
  24. Thanks, Mike, Carl and Guido! I appreciate your comments! Mike, although it might look alright from a photo, both pillars had lumps, gouges, and scratches from trying to scrape out the bleed-though in an area that was tough to clean up. And it would show through the foil. So I thought the next best thing to do since the body was already painted, was just to add a plastic piece to cover the errors. I think it worked but there are a couple of rough spots. I've finished the painting adding a coat of clear to the top blending in the trunk by painting the rear with the trunk in place. I've rubbed out the paint and finished the filler plate in the B pillar. Now its time for more foil! Thanks for looking! ?
  25. Thanks, Tom! I appreciate your comment! Got some paint on it yesterday. Looks pretty good but my paint bleed-through on the top and my subsequent clean-up didn't quite work on the B pillars. So I cut a piece of thin sheet plastic to add to the B pillars. It not only helps cover the error but it is more correct as there is a stainless plate that covers the B pillar on the 1:1. So I am going to sand this out to get the edges smooth and then foil it and see what it looks like. Thanks for looking! ?
