  1. lol shes actually five years old
  2. Alot of people like Liquid Decal Solution from Microscale Industries applied before you apply the decals, then use the setting solutions Micro Set and Micro Sol again from Microscale Solutions. Other people like to use Solvaset when applying the decals. Other people will just shoot any clear coat over the decals before they apply them. Hope this helps.
  3. Hey all I know the different craft paints that are said to not work have been discussed various times over the past year with alot of negative results from a lot of users on the forum. Tonight I did a test between Primer coats on the 68 Corvette Im building that was giving me fits for some reason in the primer stages. I took the good ole trusty Plastic Spoon and did a test with the Appel Barrell Acrylic Craft Paint I bought at Walmart the other evening for $.97 cents per bottle. Tonight I used Gloss Orange. Im going to play with Black and Gloss Yellow tomorrow evening. I primed the spoon with Tamiya White Surface primer from the rattle can. I thinned the appel barrell paint with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. I cant give the exact ratio because I just did it by eye. I gave a squeeze of the paint then a squeeze of the thinner. Stirred it up and realized it was way too runny so I put some more paint in till I felt it was the consistency of milk. Stirred it up, shot it on the spoon and I must say contrary to what other people have said on here about the craft paints, I dont think Id hesitate to well Im actually going to attempt to use these Appel Barrell Acrylic paints on my next kit I build after the Corvette. Here is two photos of the spoon. The photos do the test no justice because Im actually very happy with the results. I gave the spoon two mist coats and then two wet coats with one coat of Future. Used the blow dryer between every coat of paint and after the future to dry the spoon. The photos make the spoon look like a flat orange but its actually very shiny to the eye. Let me know your thoughts, suggestions or concerns about this test and results. Thanks and keep building and posting that eye candy.
  4. Tim was a great guy. I raced karts with Tims brother Tom at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia when I raced the Enduro Series with the World Karting Association. Right off the Inwood exit on 81. Great guy. Would help anyone with anything if you simply asked for his help.
  5. Hey guys. Just uploaded my second you tube video. The quality is a bit better but still have the green bar in the middle of the video. Going to try my daughters ipad to make the next video to see if that helps a bit. If not I guess Ill have to break down and buy a new video recorder. Comments are always appreciated. Please subscribe, like and hope to get a few more videos posted in the next week. Thanks for the support!!!!! Video can be viewed by going to you tube and looking for Hooterville75 channel.
  6. Cadalliac Pat ???????
  7. Donn, this might sound like a stupid question but I have ZERO maintenance knowledge ha ha. Is it a easy process to change the pressure regulator and install a moisture control trap on a air compressor ? I use a Craftsman Air Compressor and would like to put both of these items on new as the compressor is at least 15 years old with neither ever being replaced. Ive tried to research how to change these items online but cant seem to find a tutorial or step by step anywhere. If I cant find out how to do it myself within the next couple weeks I guess a trip to Compressed Air is in store ha ha.
  8. Ive been using a Badger Patriot 105 and couldnt be happier with it although Mr. Yost has nothing but great things to say about the Paasche H series and his work speaks for itself. Dr. Cranky uses a Iwata AND Paasche H so all three mentioned in this post are worthy of having a look at the reviews to see if they are of interest to you. You cant go wrong with any of the Badger airbrushes in my opinion and subsequently if you goto the Badger website and look at the garage sale tab, you can find Badger airbrushes at a substantial discount. You may also want to check the brands and models available at your local Michaels and Hobby Lobby Craft Stores as both offer a 40 or 50% off coupon weekly. Great way to save some extra money when buying your first airbrush. Hope this info helps you in making your decision. Whatever you decide to purchase, you will definitely enjoy having in your arsenal for painting your models.
  9. Cruz, that's what I'm trying to do here. I get brain freeze a lot and come to a mind blank. When this happens I just do what I think is needed next. With a step by step of how others do it I can kind of take some notes to put in my rolodex I'm currently making so when this happens I can stop, take a deep breath look at my rolodex of tutorials and how to's etc and continue from there. Being months into starting to build scale models I have very little knowledge and have learned what I've learned so far from this great website as well as another. Everyone has been super helpful. This is how I have done things to this point and would like to know if I'm doing something out of sequence or if there are steps I could do differently in the sequence to help enhance my ability of producing a better model. 1. Wash parts in warm soapy water (Blue Dawn) 2. Cut all parts off sprues cleaning them as I go 3. Put all parts of like color together in zip lock bags or plastic bins 4. Sand body, and hood prepping for Primer 5. Shoot Primer 6. Lightly wet sand 7. Shoot base coat color (three coats minimum) 8. Polish with Micro Mesh cloths 3600 - 12000 under cold running water 9. Wash in warm soapy water 10. Brush paint two toned details 11. Assemble Sub assemblies 12. Novus 13. Decal 14. Clear coat (Five Coats) 15. Polish with Micro Mesh cloths 4000 - 12000 under cold running water 16. Wax 17. Detail Mist Spray I'm sure there are additional steps I could do to enhance my models but am unaware of like wash's weathering etc but don't know when to do these steps in the sequence or even know of additional things I could do to enhance the appearance of the model(s). Thanks for all your help everyone. I truly appreciate all the help, advice and suggestions you give me.
  10. Its out and can be found by googling Styrene Stars by Dr. Cranky. I agree with Mr. Yost totally.
  11. Custom Mike, Ewwwwwwwwwwww Marby Menthols lol Im a Marby Blend 27 kinda guy myself ha ha. By the way GO COWBOYS LOL. Nice work area my friend.
  12. I use a regular computer desk for my work area. I recently built a 22" wide, 6' long by 31" high work bench that branches off the left hand side of the computer desk. Im currently building another work bench identical in size to branch off the right hand side as well. Im going to add a back to the left hand work bench to hang peg board on to hang all my tools, and supplies etc. I have a four tier stand behind the bench that will branch off the right hand side as my stash bench, a stand that holds my spray booth beside a sink and a coffee table that holds my tv, and stero. Pretty cool work area Im in the process of building which is coming together very nicely. Will post pics of the finished result when its just that ha ha finished
  13. I just did a bit of research on Milliput and came upon the Terracota Milliput which seems to be a two part putty that is pliable and easily smoothed and can be shaped by wetting a cloth ALSO cures rock hard. Does the Super Milliput White have extra benefits over the Terracota Milliput or even the standard Milliput or am I missing something and they all have different uses ? I'm interested in getting some of this Milliput. I also have a question for you in regards to Bondo. When you say Bondo are you speaking of the Automotive Auto Body Bondo filler ? I recently came upon a can of this when cleaning out my fathers upper garage lol. I kept it just in case lol. I havent played with putty to this point in my modeling but am getting ready to for the first time as the windshield in the Nascar kit Im currently building doesnt line up properly with the Hood so Im going to have to putty the gap to make it fit. First for everything huh haha
  14. Thanks for all the info guys. Cruz what Im basically trying to ask here is this. What are the steps you take when building. I dont need all the fine details of building the kit I just want to know like wash in soapy water, clean parts, prime, paint, clear, clear, polish, decal, clear clear, novus, wax, meguires etc etc. The steps. I normally just follow the instructions as new as I am step by step but as Im getting comfortable and building as many nascar kits as I do I see steps I can do out of number sequence according to the instructions to make things easier for me. I just wanted to get a feel of how everyone does there kits. Am I clearing out of sequence, am I polishing too early or late etc.
  15. I'm not entering a contest I'm far from ready for that lol. That's what I'm asking. What are the proper steps to building a model in sequence as the steps should happen. Example, Wash in warm soapy water, Cut parts off sprues cleaning the parts, put in bins, primer, paint, start with body etc etc ? I'm trying to get a rule of thumb as to the steps you should properly take to build a model to make a list and try to get in a habit of building every model step by step in sequence.
  16. What is the "proper" steps or sequences to building a show model from start to finish ? I mean from prepping washing the parts in warm soapy water to decaling and clear coating ? Start to finish.
  17. Thanks for the kind words guys. Believe it or not its all drained out already. I just dont get it. The guy had to reschedule on me but I have a roto rooter coming on Wednesday as well as a ceptic cleaner as I was told this could have happened because the septic is full. So Ill kill two birds with one stone. The way my drain pipe runs through the yard to the ditch before the road, theres a HUGE pine tree in the path. I was told the pine tree roots could be running through my pipe clogging things up which the roto rooter will solve. Ill have my septic system pumped so that cant be the problem anymore either. Either way everything is getting fixed asap as I want no more water in the basement ha ha.
  18. Such a great gesture. Just another prime reason why Im so proud to be a member of one of the best model forums on the world wide web.
  19. Wow what a week its been. Finally got the DSL high speed connection modem back and have high speed internet once again. So we got four inches of snow Sunday, Freezing rain Monday, 50 degrees and a ton more of rain Tuesday, 60 degrees Wednesday, and back to 35 today. I get up Wednesday morning and go down to my building area Wednesday morning and have four inches of rain in my basement. Mind you I have all my benches up on bricks, and my spray booth and sink on a 3 inch platform. My air compressor was up on 2X4 blocks and find the bottom of the tank submerged in water. My stash rack has four tiers to it as you can see in my lonely video on you tube. On the very bottom first tier I had four models which the boxes were damaged so I had in walmart bags, I find them floating in water. I opened the door to come in to find my three bottles of Novus floating in water because the cabinet they were in was a inch off the ground. Needless to say I got flooded out. (Roto Rooter coming Saturday morning hopefully). Its not been a very good week. I rounded up all I could get that was in water or jeapordy of being in water and put on higher ground. Im still pumping water out as we speak. The models in the bags are ok minus the decals and instructions which are easily replaceable. Hoping the Novus bottles were protected since they werent open guess we will find out soon enough. Hoping the air compressor isnt rusted to death from the tank being submerged in water for the time it was until moved to higher ground. The stands that were water damaged can be chucked and replaced. Shi double ty deal all around. Just glad to have what I have that wasnt damaged and will salvage what I can once the water is gone. Like I mentioned again in my you tube video I needed to water proof the walls. Guess I should have said unclog the drain because there is no reason I should have had that much water in my basement without having a clogged drain. The joys of problems life can throw at you. Ok Im done rambling on about my crappy week Ive had. Hope to be back building again by the end of the weekend. Now that the high speed internet connection is back I will be uploading pics of the current build I have been doing in my absence that I took during the build process to this point of my Darrell Waltrip Nascar #11 Pepsi I believe its from 1986ish asap. Glad to be back and definitely missed participating on the forum during my absence.
