Okay... I have a vintage, original '75 and a more recent "original art" '76. So do I need a '74? No. But, I like those stupid little Gremlins. I bet this will appear in my collection soon.

Revell '57 Chevy Convertible.
unclescott58 replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm literally finishing building the Monogram '57 Nomad in the next few days. It's an easy build. But looks a little toyish and lacks a lot of detail. I agree about Revell's old '57 Nomad. A very tough kit to build. The best part of that kit was the original box art, that you show above. Thankfully Revell's present '57 convertible has no relationship to either of the two Nomad kits. It a much nicer kit. Revell needs to design a new '57 Nomad based on the same tooling as its other more modern tri-five Chevys. -

I wondering why that isn't mentioned? I noticed the kit comes with an extra single pedal I assumed is also for the PowerGlide. Again, non mentioned in the instructions. -
Revell '64 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt Kit Parts Review

That would explain it. And they indicate that exhaust system with the drag version in the instructions. I thought this was mistake. For they show dual pipes dumping in front the rear wheels for the "street version." I thought the instructions may have had that mixed up.- 28 replies

New Plastic @ Hobby Lobby

I'm tempted to go for the Black Widow. But, do I really need another '57 Chevy in my collection? Though I do like the idea of plain business coupe. And a business coupe with fuel injection no less. That be cool for on the street. A fast way for a salesman to move his samples around the country. A quirky enough idea, that I may have to do it. -
Revell '64 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt Kit Parts Review
unclescott58 replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
After looking at the instructions over at Revell's web site, sorry to say this kit is nothing I would be interested in building. It's not close enough to a car you might find at most local Ford dealers at the time. Interesting is one of the exhaust system setups shown in the instructions. Just a single small full car length pipe and a muffler coming out of the right side header, near the crossover pipe from the left header. Who would use such a setup like this type? Looking at it, it makes no sense. I'm no expert on these type of drag cars. But, I can't believe a car like the Fairlane Thunderbolt would barely run being choked down by an exhaust of that type. Weird.- 28 replies

Revell '64 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt Kit Parts Review
unclescott58 replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A kit I have little to no interest in. But, I love Chris' review. Though hearing can be built "stockish" I may need to take a closer look at the instructions over on Revell's web site. A basically "stock" street version of this car could get me to think about buying one.- 28 replies

Revell '57 Chevy Convertible.
unclescott58 replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There are two engine blocks in this kit. Other transmissions they both look the same. Anybody know what the difference between the two are? There are other duplicate/variation parts in this kit. But those are pretty easy to figure out. -
From what I've read, the using the Nova name in Spanish speaking countries is a bit of a myth. GM knew what Nova meant in Spanish and stayed with the Chevy II name in Spanish speaking countries.

I believe above kit is the same one I have. And I plan on doing it in the exact same color scheme. Red with white coves and red interior.

Seperate. This a very modern, up to date kit, detail wise. Much nicer than I expected. Beautiful 289 fuelie in it. Seperate upper fender scoops. Lots of good detailed parts. The only subpar thing I see, is the lack of a turn signal lever on steering column. That and a gas pedal been molded in to the floor. Yet there are seperate brake and clutch pedals. Seperate interior side panels with good detail, window cranks, armrests, etc. Like I say, it's a very nice modern, up to date style kit.

I think I'll need hips before I get to the knees. A friend was telling about his dad, who in his 90's got new knees, his prostrate fixed, and cataract surgery. He said, his dad was so delighted. He felt like a young man again.

Have you never hear Bill Mitchell, head of GM's styling department at the time story of naming those cars? Bill loved to tell people in his later years, about taking the first initial of each X-body car and noting what they spell. Let's see. You have Nova. Omega. Ventura. And Apollo. What does spell? I wonder? Mitchell also claimed they wanted to do the same with H-body Vega clones. They got as far as Vega and Astra. The Buick and Oldsmobile versions never made into production. Mitchell would never tell anybody what the planned names for the Buick or Oldsmobile version were. But, I've got my guesses. What are yours?

Well, I had to do it. And Snake will be glad to hear about this. Today, in the mail from Ballzanos off of eBay, I got the AMT/Ertl 1/25 scale 1957 Corvette Convertible. The Corvette 50th Anniversary edition. I've always liked the four headlamp C1 Corvettes. And the chicken wire, two headlamp versions. But, the '56 and '57 have never done much for me. I always thought they were okay. But, not enough to purchase a model of one. In the last year I've been on a bit of a C1 buying binge. For years I've had a few in my collection. But, in the last year I've added a second AMT '59, a Revell and MPC '60, a Revell '62, and a AMT '55 promo. That was added to my '53 AMT promo, '58 Revell kit, my earlier '59 AMT kit, '62 AMT kit, and my Revell/Monogram Tom Taylor Vette AGIN kit. So what's missing? A '56 or '57. And what better way of filling that gap than with the AMT/Ertl designed 1957? As noted, I got the kit in today's mail, and I immediately opened it up. The body alone on this kit blew me away. It's very, very nice. The other parts look great too. This obviously is one of the great kits Ertl tooled up sometime in the 1990's I'm guessing. It does not look like a repop of an old AMT or MPC kit. The details looks very good. Better than I expected. I'm more excited about this kit than I thought I would be. Despite my excitement after seeing this kit, I still like the four headlamp C1 Corvettes better, especially the '58, than the '56 or '57. At the same time this is a very nice kit to add to my collection.

The other eye is scheduled to be fixed on October 12th. I'm looking forward to it. Even with just the one eye fixed so far, I see better without my glasses, than with. This is a miracle. I've been wearing glasses since I was 13. They say I'll probably still need glasses for reading. But for distances.... I may not. Yea! I can live with that!

Had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday day. Getting the right eye done in couple weeks. It's been less than 24 hours as I write this, and I'm already pretty impressed with the results. The eye feels pretty good. And I can again see through it. In fact I can pretty good through it. I'm excited by the results. Now, will it make me a better modeler?

MPC 1975 Datsun Pickup 3n1 Kit Parts Review

Another great review, Chris (of course). Looking forward to getting this one pretty soon. I have one pre-ordered. Looks like another great reissue from Round 2. -
I'm envious. Always wanted the above and the '76 Ventura. A buddy recently gave me a '76. Built it and brought it to the last MCCM (Model Car Club of Minnesota) meeting. It turned out great. Now I need to find the one you've got, and build it to match my '76.

Finially got mine today. It looks pretty good. -
I've just recently purchased a few kits from Ballzano on eBay. So far, I've been very happy with both their prices, and speed of their service and shipping. Since you indicate they will be carrying it, I'll be watching to buy the Charger from them near the end of this month.

Very cool. What scale? And how much?

Revell 76 Gran Torino Model Kit Review
unclescott58 replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Another great review Chris. I love your enthusiasm. I was thinking that no one else was interested in this kit other than me. Especially after looking at the lack responses to comments I posted on another thread here about this kit. (The thread dealing with the instructions for this kit.) It's good to see another person taking an interest in it. Revell fixed everything I disliked about the Starsky and Hutch Torino with version of this. I like the mid-size cars from this era. I'm hoping that the Torino sells well enough, that Revell may consider doing a '77 or '78 Thunderbird based on this kit. Or better yet, it sells well, and they consider doing other 70's mid-size cars that have been overlooked in 1/25th scale. Things like a non-NASCAR '73 Chevelle SS, Pontiac GTO, Olds 4-4-2, or Buick GS. Also in that same vein, I'd like see a '79 Chrysler Córdoba 300 or a '78 or '79 Dodge Magnum. But, will the new "stock" Torino sell? Proving there is a market for kits of these cars?
