  1. I'm just happy Revell is offering us fairly pretty accurate, in general, '57 Fords. I'm pleased so far with my Custom 2-door. And I'm sure I'll be pleased when I pick up my wagon. Heck I'm still pleased with AMT's old '57 Ford kit. I guess I'm just too easy to please. Have pity on me! Scott
  2. If it is, and I'm sure your all right, that's getting way too picky for me. I really can not see it. I'm seeing a bulge in the metal under each headlamp that I do not see in the model. But that's it for me. And that bulge is so small I doubt anybody will notice it's not there on the kit. Scott
  3. A couple of years I bought the movie It Started With a Kiss on DVD, just because of the Futura being in it. Warning! It's not a very good movie. Watchable. But, not good. The quality of the film on my DVD is okay. Glen Ford and Debby Reynolds are okay. The story in general is not very good. But, you do get to see some great shots of the Futura. I first fell in love with the Futura after seeing a picture of the model shown in the entry under "Automobile Models" in the World Book Encyclopedia. Interestingly, I first saw this about the same time as the Batman TV series was on the air. Around 1967 or '68. Yet as a kid I didn't put two and two together to realize the Futura and the Barris TV Batmobile were one one same car. The Batmobile being a slightly modified version of the Futura of course. I was just sad that model was an old one from the 50's that knew I would never find by that time. Need less to say, I was delighted when Revell brought the kit back in the 1990. And of course I rushed out and picked one up. Other than trying to match the original paint, it's not a bad kit to build. A little fussy. But, if you take your time, it's builds out pretty nice. By the way, I thought about it several times on ways to match the original color. I finally said the heck with it. It's my dream car, I'm painting in a color I like. I painted mine a plain (but nice) light blue. And I am very happy. I have gone on many wonderful fantasy trips in my mind in my light blue Futura. With a young Debby Reynolds, or better yet a young Ann Margret in the passenger seat. Scott
  4. I wonder how a palm tree might look in front of the entrance to the igloos we all live in the in non-southern parts of Minnesnowta? Scott
  5. There were four major redesigns of full-size Ford car chassis after World War II. The first came with new '49 Fords. The second, with the '57s. Then there was the all new chassis for 1965. This last until the Panther chassis of 1979. Which takes us up to the last Crown Victoria. All full-size Fords in between each chassis redesign rode on variations of those basic designs. Scott
  6. Wet coat? If questioning wet vs dry sanding, it's just what it says. Wet sanding is done with water. Keeping the sandpaper and/or the model wet when sanding. Finer grits work better wet. Scott
  7. ???? I must be blind. I'm not seeing the problems with the kits front end. Even after looking at the real vs kit comparison photos. With the differences pointed out! This is baffling. And how does the AMT Ford stand up in a simular comparison? Scott
  8. Spent a beautiful day out in the country at an beautiful outdoor wedding for my best friend's daughter. The weather was perfect. The wedding went off without a hitch. Everybody seemed happy and having a good time. Saw a couple of friends I haven't seen in years. It was just great. My question is, when and how did Linda (the bride) turn into such a beautiful young lady old enough to get married? The last 24 years has flown by so fast. I was sure I hadn't aged that much, or that fast. But, then I looked at a photo of me reading a book to her and her two young brothers, dated from 1998. Man do I look old now compared to the 40 year old guy in that picture. But, it's okay. I'd have it no other way. I'm looking forward to watching Linda and Dave (the groom) go off on their life and adventure together. And pray that their life is as good for them as it has been for me. Scott
  9. I spent a little time doing some research on '57 Ford wagons this evening. Mainly trying to figure out if they came with rear bumper guards or not. First, I do have a original 1957 Ford accessory brochure. There is nothing noted in there about optional rear bumper guards for station wagons. There is a grille guard designed to attach to your front bumper guards. But, that's it. I also looked though several other books I have on the subject. I then spent some at 1957ford.com. Seeing what they had to say. First they had no specific list of what was standard on each model. The accessory section again does not show optional rear bumper guards for any '57 Ford. Looking up each individual model, and then looking at the picture galleries under each model, I did notice that the plain, non-Custom Rancheros and Courier sedan deliveries showed some rear bumpers without bumper guards. But, from what I could see all '57 Ford station wagons and the Custom Rancheros came with rear bumper guards. I can find nothing other than later pictures of '57 station wagons without bumper guards. Vintage pictures always show rear bumper guards. None of the sources I have, including a reprint of the '57 Ranchero brochure, show any '57 Ford station wagon or plain and Custom Ranchero without bumper guards. So what does this all mean? I'm guessing Revell has made a mistake by not including them with their new Del Rio Ranch Wagon model kit. But, I can't say for sure. Either way will this story me from buying and enjoying the kit? Heck no. It's a minor thing that I'm willing to live with. And it's really no worst than I've seen on other kits. Even those of cars that were new at the time. I wish it was perfect. But, it's not. Scott
  10. No palm trees in Minnesota? But you do live in southern Minnesota. Are you sure you don't have them down there? I could have sworn the last time I was down there............ Scott
  11. I was just driving around this evening with my windows down and my radio off. Hard to hear the radio with the windows down and doing 65 mph anyhow. Sometimes I just like driving with no background noise. And if I have another person in the car with me, I'd rather hear what they have to say than listen to what's on the radio. I still like the art of conversation. Forced the kids I raised to talk when riding with me in the car. And I'm glad I did. I had fun watching and listening to them grow up. Its funny, somebody mentioned about people sing in cars in old movies. And maybe that's the reason they didn't need a radio. As a kid our '61 Comet did not have a radio. And guess what? We sang in the car! Mainly my mom, sisters and I. Once in a while we could get dad to sing too. But it interesting, when he ordered the new '67 Comet, he ordered it with radio. Every time I see the movie a Christmas Story with the family singing in the car, and old man cringing, I wonder if that's what my dad was doing? And after 6 years without a radio he had had enough. I doubt it. But, I get a good laugh out of the thought. I'm sure the real reason he wanted a radio was so he could listen to the Twins games. And on long trips we still sang in car. Mainly Beetles tunes in the late 60's. Scott
  12. How can I build a Packard truck out of AMT's '53 Studebaker? The engine maybe the only thing of use. It would be easier to build the rest of the truck from scratch. Scott
  13. Looks good. Scott
  14. Very nice. I love those big, sporty, 1960's full-size bucket seat cars. Scott
  15. Wow! I love big Pontiacs. And there are a lot of nice ones here. Someday I hope to add a '67 Bonneville convertible to my collection. Scott
  16. Cool! I like it. Scott
  17. Ah, an Imperial convertible. Imperial was built by Chrysler. But, from 1955 through 1975, they were not Chryslers. Imperial was a seperate division of Chrysler. Like DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth. Scott
  18. Wow! Great job. I to like the weathering. Just enough without going overboard. Scott
  19. Very nice. Scott
  20. Mistakes? Where? It looks great to me. Scott
  21. A lot of nice looking Oldsmobiles. Scott
  22. Looks good, Scott
