  1. As you see can I love to read. So, this came into my collection today. Hopefully I can stay awake through it.
  2. Just finished the stand that comes with Ike. Makes for a fun display. But, there is one problem. There is no pilot with this kit! Ike's about to crash! Still it looks pretty cool.
  3. As Mark above said, "Looks great." I agree 100%.
  4. What do call a snake wearing a hard hat? A boa constructor.
  5. A little help for building two kits down the road. Plus, just a good read besides.
  6. Another space related model in today's mail. Atlantis' repop of Revell's old 1:110 scale Everything Is Go kit. It includes John Glenn's Friendship 7 Mercury capsule. An Atlas rocket booster. And launch facilities. Originally released shortly after Glenn's historic flight, it also includes a copy of a booklet commemorating the event, that came with that first release. Mixed feeling on buying this one. I'm not really all that gung-ho on building it right away. But, I figured now was a good chance to get one. Who knows if it will be available when I do decide I'd like to build it? And I don't? Someone will someday get a chance to buy one from my estate after I croak.
  7. I agree. Mr. Mulligan has a bolder, cooler look to me. Still I like Ike (and Mike). I just like Mr. Mulligan better. Oh, and thanks for compliment.
  8. Here a couple of Howards I just completed. And I'm not talking about Shemp, Moe, or Curly. Instead Benny Howard's DGA-5 Ike, and DGA-6 Mr. Mulligan. These are Testor's reissues of old Hawk kits. Originally designed back in the the 1950's, they are a little crude kits by today's standards. Though they do a pretty good job, in general, of representing what both airplanes looked like. And despite the difference in size between the two planes, they are both 1/48 scale. Ike was that much smaller of an airplane compared to Mr. Mulligan. Im happy with how they turned out. I hope you like them too.
  9. Another good one. ?
  10. Very good. Thank you.
  11. One last joke. Since I seem to be the only one here enjoying these, I will quit torturing the rest of you after this last one. This a timely joke. A very old one. And I originally heard it back in either the 1st or 2nd grade. I still like it. April flowers bring May flowers. What do May flowers bring? Pilgrims.
  12. Beautiful build. I'm impressed. ?
  13. Counting breaks, it took me between 4 to 5 hours to build the 4D Vision Saturn V. If people are interested, I will pictures in the All the Rest section tomorrow.
  14. It took about 45 minutes to get first subassembly done on the 4D Vision Saturn V. You can see how nice a quickly it goes together. And with very little glue. I love it.
  15. I'm about to launch (pun intended) into building my second 4D Vision Saturn V Rocket. I built one 3 or 4 years ago. But, I gave the model to a local middle school science teacher. I had no regrets, until I started looking at Saturn V and Apollo models as the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing approaches. I couldn't ask for the first one back. So I've decided to buy and build a second one. This is a very fun kit to built. Everything is pre-painted a designed to snap together. But as I found with the first one, a little glue is helpful in securing some of the parts to the model. There are 180 parts. The model is in 1/100 scale. It stands at 43 1/2 inches tall when it's finished. And if I start right now. I should have it finished before I go to bed tonight. I'm in no rush, and Orville is on tonight, so we'll see how far I get. Tomorrow being Good Friday, I do not have to work. So I have plenty of time to go slowly and do a nice job.
  16. Why does a moon rock taste better than an earth rock? Its just a little meteor.
  17. Nope. It's not there, sad to say. You were right. If it was going to be anywhere, you would think it would be in that book. But, I'm getting the impression from are the research I've done on this subject, it might be something Benny Howard did not talk a lot about at the time. And is now lost in sands of time. Still, it was a good suggestion on the book. It does tell you just about everything you'd want to know Mr. Howard's airplanes. But, other than DGA-4 and DGA-5, Mike and Ike, it gives us few clues to the nicknames used on his other planes.
  18. Bad news. There is nothing in the book Howard's Golden Age telling why Benny Howard name his DGA-6 airplane "Mr. Mulligan." The only thing the book tells us about this early on, is that Benny Howard liked to give things nicknames. Including his wife Maxine, whom he called "Mike." And she was inspiration for giving the plane DGA-4 its nickname of "Mike." We then do find out that DGA-5, an almost identical plane to DGA-4 was given the name "Ike." Because it rhymes with Mike. But as to why DGA-3 was called "Pete," and DGA-6 "Mr. Mulligan," there is no real clear answer in this book, or any other source I've found so far. Kind of a shame the book does not clear this up. "Mr. Mulligan" and "Pete" are both pretty good names. It maybe just one of those lost to history.
  19. Ah. You found the goofy double posting, that I wish there was a way of deleting. This has happened to me twice when starting new threads. Somehow I accidentally get two started. I don't know how or why this happens. And I have no idea how to get rid of the second thread. So where is my Ghost of the Red Baron? You'll have to view him on the thread with the exact same title as this one. I hope you find, and like him.
  20. Very cool! I hope your going to use the skull driver. It's just warped enough for my sense of humor.
  21. I got a few more books in today's mail. 1. Howard's Golden Age, by, Art Hall. A book about Benny Howard & His BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH Good Airplanes. 2. Haynes' NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Operations Manual. And 3. Haynes' North American X-15 Owner's Workshop Manual. I'm hoping to find out through Art Hall's book, of why Benny Howard named his DGA-6 airplane Mr. Mulligan. All of the other reseach I've done. Whether in other books or on-line can not give me a reason behind that name. A quick at Mr. Hall's book makes me wonder if it's mentioned in there or not? I sure hope so.
