  1. Here a couple of Howards I just completed. And I'm not talking about Shemp, Moe, or Curly. Instead Benny Howard's DGA-5 Ike, and DGA-6 Mr. Mulligan. These are Testor's reissues of old Hawk kits. Originally designed back in the the 1950's, they are a little crude kits by today's standards. Though they do a pretty good job, in general, of representing what both airplanes looked like. And despite the difference in size between the two planes, they are both 1/48 scale. Ike was that much smaller of an airplane compared to Mr. Mulligan. Im happy with how they turned out. I hope you like them too.
  2. Another good one. ?
  3. Very good. Thank you.
  4. One last joke. Since I seem to be the only one here enjoying these, I will quit torturing the rest of you after this last one. This a timely joke. A very old one. And I originally heard it back in either the 1st or 2nd grade. I still like it. April flowers bring May flowers. What do May flowers bring? Pilgrims.
  5. Beautiful build. I'm impressed. ?
  6. Counting breaks, it took me between 4 to 5 hours to build the 4D Vision Saturn V. If people are interested, I will pictures in the All the Rest section tomorrow.
  7. It took about 45 minutes to get first subassembly done on the 4D Vision Saturn V. You can see how nice a quickly it goes together. And with very little glue. I love it.
  8. I'm about to launch (pun intended) into building my second 4D Vision Saturn V Rocket. I built one 3 or 4 years ago. But, I gave the model to a local middle school science teacher. I had no regrets, until I started looking at Saturn V and Apollo models as the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing approaches. I couldn't ask for the first one back. So I've decided to buy and build a second one. This is a very fun kit to built. Everything is pre-painted a designed to snap together. But as I found with the first one, a little glue is helpful in securing some of the parts to the model. There are 180 parts. The model is in 1/100 scale. It stands at 43 1/2 inches tall when it's finished. And if I start right now. I should have it finished before I go to bed tonight. I'm in no rush, and Orville is on tonight, so we'll see how far I get. Tomorrow being Good Friday, I do not have to work. So I have plenty of time to go slowly and do a nice job.
  9. Why does a moon rock taste better than an earth rock? Its just a little meteor.
  10. Nope. It's not there, sad to say. You were right. If it was going to be anywhere, you would think it would be in that book. But, I'm getting the impression from are the research I've done on this subject, it might be something Benny Howard did not talk a lot about at the time. And is now lost in sands of time. Still, it was a good suggestion on the book. It does tell you just about everything you'd want to know Mr. Howard's airplanes. But, other than DGA-4 and DGA-5, Mike and Ike, it gives us few clues to the nicknames used on his other planes.
  11. Bad news. There is nothing in the book Howard's Golden Age telling why Benny Howard name his DGA-6 airplane "Mr. Mulligan." The only thing the book tells us about this early on, is that Benny Howard liked to give things nicknames. Including his wife Maxine, whom he called "Mike." And she was inspiration for giving the plane DGA-4 its nickname of "Mike." We then do find out that DGA-5, an almost identical plane to DGA-4 was given the name "Ike." Because it rhymes with Mike. But as to why DGA-3 was called "Pete," and DGA-6 "Mr. Mulligan," there is no real clear answer in this book, or any other source I've found so far. Kind of a shame the book does not clear this up. "Mr. Mulligan" and "Pete" are both pretty good names. It maybe just one of those lost to history.
  12. Ah. You found the goofy double posting, that I wish there was a way of deleting. This has happened to me twice when starting new threads. Somehow I accidentally get two started. I don't know how or why this happens. And I have no idea how to get rid of the second thread. So where is my Ghost of the Red Baron? You'll have to view him on the thread with the exact same title as this one. I hope you find, and like him.
  13. Very cool! I hope your going to use the skull driver. It's just warped enough for my sense of humor.
  14. I got a few more books in today's mail. 1. Howard's Golden Age, by, Art Hall. A book about Benny Howard & His BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH Good Airplanes. 2. Haynes' NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Operations Manual. And 3. Haynes' North American X-15 Owner's Workshop Manual. I'm hoping to find out through Art Hall's book, of why Benny Howard named his DGA-6 airplane Mr. Mulligan. All of the other reseach I've done. Whether in other books or on-line can not give me a reason behind that name. A quick at Mr. Hall's book makes me wonder if it's mentioned in there or not? I sure hope so.
  15. Does anybody want to buy my old vacuum cleaner? Its just sitting around gathering dust.
  16. I just watched a little bit about it over on CNBC. I actually cried a little.
  17. In today's mail, I got Dragon Model's 1/400 pre-built Titan IIIC MOL Gemini Spacecraft w/Launch Pad. A beautiful model. Though a very small model, for what I consider big money. Is it worth it? I've thought about it for a few years now. In the end, I said yes. It's that nice.
  18. NO! An important part of history is gone! Any word on how this started? I hope it was not a terrorist attack! I can't believe this has happened! ?
  19. In today's mail: Monogram's 1:24 Mercedes 300 SLR "722." A model of the car Stirling Moss and David Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia. A beautiful car driven by one my all time favorite racing drivers.
  20. Fun to see that these old kits survived after all of years. Very cool.
  21. Very cool! Neat to see that these models survived, and now in good hands.
  22. Two great additions to my reading library. Haynes also has one on Apollo 11, that they are putting out as a 50 Anniversary version. So I have that on preorder. I'm about half way through the Gemini book. I like it a lot. I've purchased several of these Haynes "Owners' Workshop Manuals" in recent years. I also have the ones for the Starship Enterprise, RMS Titanic, Ferrari 250 GTOs, and Ford GTs. I like them all a lot. I think I'll be be purchasing their manual on the X-15 spaceplane next.
  23. A kid was upset that his baseball coach yelled whenever he or a teammate made a mistake. "It's just something coaches do," his mother told him. "It's not personal." His response was hard to argue with: "If it's not personal, then why do they use your name?"
