  1. Hi guys, I haven't been so active for awhile. God knows why. Tinkering with my El Camino maybe, out of phase, down and out, ohh I don't know, dreaded "builders block". Anyway, I might be on to something now. I got this really cool grille with some AMT '62 Chevy Impala stuff I bought on evilbay. That was some time ago. I assumed it was for the Chevy, but maybe not.... Looks like this: There's a roll pan that seems to fit under it in this way. Any clues as to what it comes from? I might just use it in a '62 Bel Air that's already been messed with. It fits very good the other way around, as a replacement for the stock grille. Same angle. But it seems better, or wilder to attach it this way. Build some sort of extension.
  2. I just bought a body similar to this one, cast by a guy up north in Sweden, Rickard Hedlund. He makes some nice resin parts under RickArt.... I had thought I could use the Revell Pro Sportsman chassis with his new body, but seeing your project, I guess I have to try or look elsewhere....
  3. Nice work you put into this one! And the Supremes are lookin' soo good! Lose the donk wheels to ehh whatever.... locomotive maybe, or a big truck.
  4. Ohh cool! This one's getting better for every update. The new hood really looks good! Exhaust... square or why not oval, like the SS Chevelle had?
  5. Another cool creation, Ira!! What makes you tick, or have this creativity? Seems like mine's gone out the window, or something...
  6. Hey hey Tor Henning! I think you need some serious horsepower my friend.... How about the double blowers from AMT's '53 Stude kit?
  7. Ira, that snake face looks kinda creepy....yikes!
  8. I didn't have any real problems with the decals. Maybe a little fiddly to get in place, but take your time and you'll be fine.
  9. Maybe it's an experimental "mobile phone" as we call them over here.... I got one of them deliveries as well. As always, one of these years I'll get around to build it.
  10. Looks sharp! And it looks like you added some photoetched SS 454 emblems. Who makes 'em? I've got a pair of box stock builds waiting, they're almost done, but why I haven't finished them...?
  11. I built a box stock black version of this kit. You have to dechrome some of the engine parts to make it look factory correct. I've got plans to build another, the '87 Aeroback version. Not sure what color yet, but was also thinking about that dark red metallic. Time will tell....
  12. This is an old Monogram mold from the beginning, the first issue came out in 1963. So it's not too bad considering the age. Monogram revamped it in the early 70's into the BADMAN, and after that it's been reissued a number of times with basically the same parts, except the wheels and tires. Here's a pic of the original issue, together with the '58 T-Bird, which was released about the same time.
  13. It's getting close now... Only a few hours before showtime....! I have to leave the apartment around 8 in the morning. Six hours to go, since it's almost 2 in the morning over here. Cutting it close? You know how it is, right....? I painted the headers flat white 'bout 10 minutes ago.
  14. It's coming up this Saturday, the 17th, in case anyone would venture a quick trip to Sweden..... Ohh I know, a bit short of time, but it was just to let you know things do happen over here as well....
  15. Decals done! I didn't want to tell what it was going to be, since I had some problems with graphic decals from the same manufacturer. Anyway, here it is. I was searching youtube for gasser flicks, and found some images of Hill Bros running a '41 Willys. And since I had the decals for the '33's, why not...?!
  16. Here's a pic a friend took, and tricked...... And another one, in gold......! This one's not tricked, but it's a cool shot!
  17. Concert tickets? Computer games, or the new iphone....! Anyway it looks great! Like a full size Volvo Amazon, or 121/122..... The grille has the same shape, roofline is very similar. Oh sorry, I'm rambling away in the morning hours... nite nite!
  18. Thanks Ira! Maybe I should stick with the KISS formula; Keep It Simple Stupid.... Just add decals and clear it, and be done with the paint.
  19. I'm thinking some gold flake/glitter hair spray and candy red to top it off....
  20. Thanks Terry! I have a pic for ya'll
  21. I've been looking at loads of pics, trying to come up with a trick paint job. Silver went on in two stages, and it gave me fits! For some reason, I must have gotten the body statically charged or something, 'cus when I sprayed the second coats, I got lots of little dust specks/hairs that stood on end. Oh well, sand it down with super fine paper. So 'bout an hour ago, I gave in and shot it with Mica red. Not very trick, huh....?! Maybe if I shoot it with some clear blue, but where did I put that jar of clear blue.....? Oh well, some other day...
  22. It seems like a well engineered kit, save maybe for that hood snap thing. It will be a fun quick build, hopefully. It has to be finished in two weeks, by the 17th, for the CCM Open. This is the contest Juha Airio always shows up at, along with a bunch of his Finnish friends.
  23. I've started a new project. It's a challenge between me and another builder. He's building a '55 Nomad. The guy's a professional auto painter, and he knocks out some killer paint jobs... The Nomad is no exception! So I have to come up with something really wild! My kit is the Revell Willys. It will be built basically box stock. The kit had been started by another guy, and he filled the notches in the body, where the hood would snap shut. Good idea, but it needed some final detailing. I added some small strips to fill the gaps. Some sanding done, notches are gone. I also thought the door hinges looked a bit clunky, so I cut slits to simulate detailed hinges. The body has recieved some coats of Tamiya white primer. Will be silver later. Then to figure out some wild paint job.... Any ideas you fellas have are appreciated! I was inspired by the Willys in this thread, scroll down to find it. The "Mind Binder" The initial plan was to paint the model something like this, but now with the other guy's Nomad wild paint, I have to try something else.... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51012
  24. Crazy, like always! But you manage to blend the parts together so it looks perfectly "normal"....
  25. If you can find Tamiya's Fine Surface Primer, spend those 38 bucks on primer instead! Or some more paint. As for paint stands, I've always used old bottles, that I stick either double sided tape on top of the cap. Always keep the cap! Or regular masking tape, maybe 5 inches long. Stick the two ends together, so it looks like a loop. With sticky side out. Then stick the tape loop to the cap, and down the sides. Make another loop of tape, and place it in a cross on top of the first one. Now you should have a good place to stick the body, inside the roof. Prep the body by sanding away all those pesky tiny mold lines. And other flash that might be present. Also check the wheel wells, and sand away the fine mold lines on the inside. All these preparations will make a world of difference when the model has been painted. Also, when you have sanded the body, clean it with some dishwashing soap, rinse many times. Dry the body, make sure NO water is left anywhere! 'Cuz it will appear when you spray.... Murphy you know..... Then blow away the last tiny dust particles. Now you can paint.
