  1. Céad míle fáilte...from one to another. Your work is impressive. I've been doing this for close to 40 years on & off and I'd be very happy with those results even now. Love the Superbird.
  2. Thanks for all the nice words. The hubcaps are resin, came from The Modelhaus.
  3. Wow, what a beautiful car. Great paint job as well. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Excellent build, very worthy of the kit. I'm a bit disappointed in the parts, too, but they're better than nothing. I'll make do.
  5. Very very nice. You did that resto justice.
  6. Well, how do you like that...I finished one. Good start to the New Year, even though it took almost all of last year to build it. This kit fought me all the way. Its based on the old tool AMT 55 Chevy kit that is, by no means, an easy build with all the flash and poorly molded parts. The body is a resin 4 door sedan from Resin Realm, it wasn't that easy to work with either, very thick casting in some spots made the fit onto the kit pretty tough. In retrospect, it would have been easier just converting the plastic body. Anyway, once I started building the AMT chassis, I found that my 'factory sealed' kit was missing a bunch of chassis parts. I tried to use parts box stuff for the missing items, but it just didn't fit right. So I acquired an open box Revell-Mono 55 convertible kit and modified that chassis to fit this one. That was a good move, resulting in a much better detailed engine and chassis. The body needed a lot of clean up and a trip into the purple pond due to paint issues. It finally came together with Tamiya white and black out of the can. I used a bunch of the Monogram 55 parts for the trim, including the grill, mirrors, door handles and emblems. The decals are vinyl that were custom made by a friend. Now that its done, I really feel like I accomplished something. Its my first build in a long time, and now that I have time, I'll be coming up with a few more soon. Here's a few pics...
  7. Superb build, looks great. FYI: The car reappears in the new "Skyfall" Bond movie. But I won't go into detail and ruin it for those who haven't seen it yet.
  8. Its a major event when I get to finish up a model lately. Finally got this one done this week. Nothing special, just a box stock build of the new tool Revell 66 Impala SS. Nice kit, no major fit issues. Painted Tamiya maroon right out of the can. Built this as a replica of a car I worked on growing up in my neighborhood, 'cept that one had a 283. Nice to bring back some memories.
  9. Sorry Dave, mine's not build yet either (big surprise)...but one of these days............ It is a nice transkit though. TS
  10. Perry's Resin makes a fantastic resin Chevy 6. I used one in a 67 Biscayne project, photo link below. I'm not sure what Randy's status is now with orders, but its worth looking into, IMHO. cut and paste, cause I can't get photos to post recently...they're about half way down the page. http://public.fotki.com/tsheehy/scale_models/model_cars_1/page3.html
  11. Its nice to see the old builds once again. Being a light commercial guy myself, I always enjoyed this build of yours. Thanks for bringing it around again. And MC to you and your family Tom.
  12. Great job Rich, you nailed it.
  13. Excellent job, very sharp...Please share with us the source of your decals. I'd love to do one of their Magnum K-9 cars...they had at least 3 of them.
  14. That 51 Ford belonging to the Mass State Police was restored in recent times. The correct split domes are not made anymore and originals are very costly. When they restored it, they used a solid blue dome. To be period correct, a model needs to have a split dome, blue to the front, red to the rear. EDIT: Whoa, brain spasm....the 51 Ford has a siren/light, not a beacon. Yes, the light is blue to the front. It looks like the beacons started in Mass SP around 1957, as the 57s on that page have them. Those had the split domes.
  15. Thanks. I figured it was already discussed.
  16. Is anyone familiar with this casting/caster? Dan Models of Romania has this kit listed on the big auction site. The quality looks fantastic. Its a little pricey but I'm thinking about taking a chance on it. He has good feedback and has sold over a dozen to US customers.
  17. Beautiful. Screams authenticity.
  18. Hey Dave, looking good. That apartment is not holding you back. So you're in FLA now? Figures, I move to Delaware and you hit the road on me. LOL... Keep up the good work, this will be a neat project, but I'm looking forward to your P-19 in 1/25. Easy scratchbuild!! TS
  19. Dan, yes...Maryland did use the 57 Ford 2 door, as well as Virginia, and many others. For MD, it was the last year they used the fender mounted siren/light combination. In 58, they put a small beacon on the roof and the siren under the hood.
  20. Someone brought up a good point in another forum. This kit's decals coincide with the now Round-2 (former Ertl) 1/18 diecast 74 Dodge Monaco. Those markings they already have the licensing for. Therefore, they probably just rescaled them and put them on this decal sheet hoping that we'd be happy. Correct decals for this car are available from many aftermarket sources that offer police related items. Police car models.com has an entire decal section with many 1/25 sets. Just do your research on the agencies you're considering and they'll probably have something for you.
  21. As G stated, no, they would not update older cars unless a particular car needed a repaint from an accident, then an older car might get newer graphics. But it would not be a fleet-wide changeover. Our only hope is that they are secretly working on a 74 Dodge Monaco. Then all then all the decals would be correct.
  22. Grabbed one today. Very disappointed. It is a straight reissue, with no "fixes" to the shortcomings of previous issues. The only change is the decals, which are a plus with some minuses. As Ryan mentioned above, it is now confirmed that the agencies are Troy, MI, Las Vegas PD, Chicago PD, CHP and NYSP. The pluses are the Troy and CHP, they are accurate and period correct for 1970, however CHP never used the 70 Ford. Las Vegas is not bad, but incorrect for 1970. The gold door star is sort of correct (it should be metallic gold), but the word "POLICE" was not adopted until 1974. In 1970, they had "To Protect and Serve" on the door with the star. The NYSP markings are correct, but again, incorrect for 1970. The blue/yellow cars hit the road in 1974, plus no Fords for NYSP in 1970. The markings should be black/white for this year. The Chicago markings are not that good. Again, this style marking was not used until 1974 when they switched to all white cars, and the red lettering is way too dark (doesn't show correct in the scan) (BTW, my scan cut off the bottom stripe, it is there) So if this was a 1974 Ford, we'd be OK. I'm very surprised Round 2 did not do their homework on the accuracy of the decals. It just adds to the shortcomings of an already tired reissued, in my opinion. The information is out there on who used this year Ford, and what the correct markings should have been for that year. LVPD 1973 Satellite, correct color/markings for 1970 Ford LVMPD 1974 Dodge for reference, now tan/white cars...
  23. I had 3 at one time back a few years ago. All are now in hands of new owners, but I am working on another that should be done in a couple of months... Oh yeah, they were all police cars that I restored. 76 Plymouth Gran Fury... 66 Plymouth Fury I 73 Dodge Polara
  24. Tom, fantastic job. I've been meaning to build this exact car for some time. My Dad had one, almost exactly like this with the six...same color but black interior. Great job...thanks for sharing and passing on your tips! Tom Sheehy
  25. The beacon used by the Mass SP in 1957 was a Federal model 17, blue to the front and red to the rear. It was a split dome. Research this page and it show a 1965 Ford with this configuration. The 1957 was the same way...go about half way down the page to see the description... http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeopzls/policecars/id11.html
