  1. A project I have been thinking about. Has anyone attempted this. My initial thought is to start with a 1/35 deuce and a half and a baha beast and go from there. Any ideas, reference, or info to replicate the shapes and styling of this would be appreciated. By the way, this is a movie prop vehicle from the movie Mystery Men for those who don't know.
  2. As the others have said, I want my cake and eat it too. I like the artwork, especially on the vintage boxes, but do want to see an actual build up to know if the artwork is the nicest part of the kit.
  3. That turned out very nice and was interesting to see your WIP. Thanks for sharing.
  4. That's very nice and even more impressive that you didn't use BMF.
  5. I'm still looking for a good deal on the Meng F-350 but would buy any new Mopar offerings. Like many have said, I have more than I can probably build but I am finding myself liking newer tooling fit and finish over some of the finicky kits of the past that are on my to build list. I would buy a case of the kit that included time, inspiration and skill. I think it would be a best seller.
  6. This a link to a previous thread that may be of some help. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=67630
  7. It looks like a natural. Nice work.
  8. Carl, That is from the Revell H2 Hummer .
  9. Agree. FYI Miles, builtups usually have the the flash and visible seems as well, unless they were built by someone with some skill. I venture to say say most first run (now vintage) kits were not built with skill you will see on this forum. And Christy Brinkley- she's Always A Woman.
  10. This was how I viewed the Sidewinder but you have changed my mind. Your color choice and paint job really show the design characteristics. I like the tire and wheel combo, are they from the kit or another source?
  11. I think this approach would be beneficial to all concerned as long at it stays civil. The manufactures would have an unpaid RandD department thousands deep. Sadly not all criticism is constructive.
  12. I went yesterday and didn't see anything religious and there was no music at all. It may be regional and bible belt but even then i have never heard of anyone having to confess their sins, give 10%, or accept a savior to shop there. It's the Home Depot of hobby. It has lots of everything but specializes in nothing.
  13. Rather than being viewed as a wealth of knowledge and mentors, they are what? So sad.
  14. I like it-the cinematography alone should make it worth seeing on the big screen. Plus the vehicles and real stunts - can't wait.
  15. Nice story's, thanks for sharing.
  16. Thanks for the compliments guys. Frank, nice catch on the tires. I don't know how I did that but thanks and it has been corrected.
  17. Nice start. I remember seeing a few 510's at the local oval track in the 70's. Mini stock class-they ruled and I've had a fondness since. It's on the shelf and in the to do list but for now this will have to do. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I'm diggin the monotone and color choice. Thanks for sharing.
  19. I may be wrong but I was thinking it was Jantrix and he was going to do the build and post it as one complete tutorial and Harry did mention pinning it. I think it's a nice gesture and benefit to us all and the forum. I am looking forward to seeing this also but this Fall, I believe, was the timeline. Barring life and any other extenuating circumstances.
  20. I like it. It gives me an idea for future build. Thanks for sharing.
  21. I finally overcame my great white whale I've affectionately called Moby Dick. A little back story about it. This was the first model I took a Dremel to after getting back into the hobby in 2008. I have worked more off than on this model over the last six yrs. The setbacks include but are not limited to, dropping it and splitting the center bodywork and having to start all over, putty, ghosting and other paint problems. Things I would do different-use a third kit. It would make the body and frame work much easier. I didn't like the sunroofs and the H2s narrow to the back. After widening the front section, the roof panel lines don't line up with the back. Rather than trying to fix that mess, I built a whole new one making it a 1/2 inch taller and giving it a little character. It's FAR from perfect, but I learned a lot compared to my melting plastic over a candle bodywork days. Any questions or comments I will be happy to answer, if I can remember-it has been 6 yrs in the making. More pics on my photobucket--http://s326.photobucket.com/user/cqcid/library/?sort=3&page=1 Thanks for looking.
  22. https://archive.org/stream/NationalLampoon1974_10/1974_10#page/n79/mode/2up It continues on the next couple of pages. I hadn't seen that before-interesting.
  23. Bummer with all the problems. Interesting project, glad to see it get a new life and direction. I will be following and wish you better luck to the finish line.
  24. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. I would offer to get two of the same models and build them at the same time. 1. You find out how serious he really is. 2. He will cherish something earned a lot more than something given. 3. It could be a fun and learning experience for the both of you making you closer friends. Or you may never speak to each other again. It could go either way.
  25. While this is true, the youth of the world that can actually afford a Aoshima or the like have similar lifestyles and distractions as here. Distribution to a world market has changed but the distractions of the youth worldwide is also changing similar to the US. So I wonder on world stage if it's just the bigger market and population growth or has the actual percentage of people in the world who build models increased? My guess is the percentage by population is dropping. When the day comes that models are no longer stocked in brick and mortar stores, the main exposure for anyone will be from someone who does the hobby. Just my thoughts.
