New Build 1957 Ford Del Rio Station Wagon Finished !
Metalmad replied to Metalmad's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Worked on the air cleaner assembly this evening & was not sure how i was going to finish this up so I added another piece of flat .40 styrene and removed the colored area where the carbs will sit plus it gives me a bit of a foundation to add the 1/32 strip that will give the depth of the filter and also a way to secure the top of the air cleaner to the bottom half. So now that I have finish building the assembly I'm debating on adding small styrene strips to the top of the assembly to give a bit of a custom look or to just leave it nice and smooth. -

Made a little progress today on the air cleaner assembly and I was able to finish the cover so next will be to scratch build the inner support and also come up with the actually filter. I also scratch built the carb venturi's today and have them installed into the carbs so next will be a little primer then some paint. -
Wow ! Awesome craftsmanship going on here.

Thank you all for the encouraging comments ! Got in a few hours today on this build which I started to scratch build the air cleaner assembly and I was able to finish the bottom portion of the assembly so next will be the top then after the top assembly is finished then I will smooth out all the edges to make the ends round and I also add a few styrene strips on the top to give it a custom look. Thanks for looking thats all for now ! -

I got the carbs venturies drilled & holes drilled for the fuel lines plus they are in primer now and I still have some clean up to do on the manifold. I also got the valve covers shot with clear black and they are also drilled for the spark plug boots and plug wires. -

Thank you Gene ! I have chosen to use the Holley Dominators carbs since they look to be in scale to the high rise manifold. I have started to detail them a bit by drilling out the venturies and I will also drill out holes for the fuel lines that will be ran. -

I was able to get a little work in this evening on this build and after looking at the high rise manifold I decided that it looked a little to high so I cut off about a 1/8" off to shorten it a bit then I also sanded down about 1/16" underneath where the carbs would sit on top. Then I made a small plate to put in between the top half and bottom of the manifold so it would look more uniform which now you can see the difference in the height in the last picture of the last post and the picture in this post which to me looks a lot better. -

Was able to get in a little bench time in this evening to scratch build the front engine plate mounts which I installed to the frame but they do not look to pretty at the moment so I will clean them up after the glue has cured. -

Small update : I have added hold down straps to the fuel cell and it's in primer and I will add the fuel fittings and lines later since I haven't mapped out where I want to run them yet. I'm contaplating on doing a rack and pinion steering system which I have a rack and pinion in my parts box and front lower control arms also to accommodate the rack and pinion steering which I will attempt to modify for better fitment.. -

Was able to get a little bench time in today so I started to modify the interior since I have tubbed the chassie and I also had to make some modifications to the interior which surprisingly went pretty good so for. I'm not sure as of yet if I will keep the front bench seat or use bucket seats with a center console but I'm swaying towards the bench seat. -

A little update on the Del Rio Wagon. I have started some of the scratch building for this build so first is to scratch build the fuel cell which is basically done so next I will shoot some primer on her to make sure it is nice and smooth then figure out where I will drill holes to run the fuel lines. -

Was able to get in a little bench time this evening which I will be removing the engine mounts so that I will have room for the headers for the 429 engine that will be installed on this build. So I have started scratch building the engine plates which as you can see they still need a little finish work to have them done plus I have started to box the frame rails and I will also be giving it a go with parts from Scott at Futurattraction which is a rear 4 link set up and a Ford nine inch with a disc brakes.
