Thanks for the kind words guys. I really appreciate it. I always loved the Monkees TV show when I was a kid, and I've wanted to build a model of the car for a long time now. Our model club, the Central PA Model Car Club had a 'TV and Movie Car' theme for December's meeting, and it just had to be the Monkeemobile for me! Having finished this car, I got a cool idea for a 'New' Monkeemobile. I'll post pics as the car starts to take shape. Mike

Art, it's custom-mixed Candy Red. I used Testors clear enamel, and mixed in various dyes until I got the shade right. I mix my colors using TransTint brand dyes for transparent colors, and ColorTone pigments for custom solid colors..... http://www.woodcraft...ranstint%20dyes http://www.stewmac.c...or_Lacquer.html And I use various 2-part clears.....DuPont, PPG, and Martin Senour Cross/FIRE, depending on what's on hand, or what I can get a good deal on. Thanks Greg! It's one of my favorite builds. I have a Road Agent in the works that's going to look great parked next to the Mysterion. Pics soon! Mike

Another angle, without flash......

I built this one in the style of the 'Street Machines' I used to see running around Baltimore Md when I was a young teen in the late 70's. THOSE are the cars that got me hooked! Mike

Here's a couple of shots that show the interior a little better......that's Citadel acrylic 'Chainmail' metallic silver color on the steering wheel...... Mike

Thanks guys. I looked at loads of photos of the real car, and some of them showed the color as plain 'ol bright red, while other photos show the color as a deeper candy-like shade. I decided to just go with Candy Red over Silver. It's classic and looks great in the lights! Mike

You've encouraged me to take a stab at this kit. I love the car, but wondered if the kit would build up nice. You NAILED IT!......especially that wacky rear hatch/hinge arrangement. NICE. Mike

I hear ya on the Bare Metal Foil. I've had issues with it in the past. One thing worth mentioning.....it sticks to gloss paint better than primers, or dull coats. I've heard where some builders brush a little clear gloss acrylic over the dull primer on any trim that gets BMF, then apply the foil over that once it's dry. Worth a try, huh? Mike

Beautiful. Wish you could share a scan of the original photo of the real car with us! Mike

That Dodge truck and the Dart are trick!

I've been wanting to build one of these for quite a while. The body was a bit of a challenge to get right. Mine had a lot of flash, and the nose and tail pans fit poorly.....especially around the headlight buckets and grill openings. I spent more time filling and smoothing the seams and gaps than I did building the dang thing! Once the body was primed, smoothed, and ready for color, I custom-mixed the Candy Red and sprayed it over Tamiya silver. The clear topcoat is 2-part urethane. Tires are from the parts box (the kit tires are too dinky). The kit itself is really simple, and overall, it was a fun build. Best part is, now I have the iconic Monkeemobile in my collection! Thanks for looking, Mike

Finally, after many months, I have finished a few of my long-standing builds! First up, the Roth Mysterion. Finish is custom-mixed Mysterion Yellow. I used Testors clear enamel, and created the yellow with tinting pigment gels. The clear topcoat is 2-part urethane. Rear wheels are from the Barris T Buggy, and rear tires are from Modelhaus. Interior is flocked, and the seat is Tamiya Aluminum Silver. Control levers are straight pins. I modified the headlights by recessing the small one and backing it with Bare Metal Foil, and adding a lens to the large one (the kit doesn't come with a lens(!!??). I used a straight pin head in the center of each lens to replicate Lucas style lenses. I also used Citadel acrylic black wash on the engine and suspension parts, to tone some of the chrome down, and add depth. The Roth cars are some of my all-time favorites, and I'm already working on a follow-up, the Road Agent. Thanks for looking!, Mike

I dig it......the actual car AND the model. But then again, the whole 'Rocket Age' thing has always held a special appeal for me. Mike

That looks INCREDIBLE. Easily one of my favorite builds ever posted here. NICE JOB. Mike

Well, I for one am very excited. ..... BIG THANKS go out to everyone ROUND 2 (Tom Lowe, you ARE THE MAN), REVELL, MOEBIUS, LINDBERG, HAWK, IMC! ..... The AMT Custom Vans bring back some great memories, and they're releasing three of them, the Vantasy Chevy van (is this the 'Dirty Donny' Custom Chevy van??.....slated for March '12 - pics seen elsewhere on the net.....reminds me of the yellow 'Sunchaser' from years ago), the Vantom Ford van, . The Gremlin, MPC 1/16 Chargers, wow! I'm 13 years old again! Who said we can't revisit our youth?? The old Johan survivors look great in new IMC duds........can't wait to build the '75 Olds Cutlass. Way to go guys. Also, how could some of you guys say things like, "they're not getting any of MY money". You guys sure know how to shoot yourselves in the foot. Thankfully, the manufacturers are thinking more of US diehard/lifelong builders and releasing new products in an age where it would be cheaper to listen to the naysayers like you guys, and go a different route. Bring on the kits!!, Mike

Tangerine pearl! Use that nail polish we have in the shop.....we'll need to pick up one more bottle. Dad -
I dig it! I think you nailed the overall look. I have a friend who has a lowered Chevy S10 in a very similar color pink.....or maybe it's sorta raspberry. Some of these other guys here might not be up to speed, but pinks, purples, and pastels are very much in-style in the low rider truck scene. Mike
