  1. Nice quickie! Mike
  2. I watched (IN PERSON) Davey Allison race a Thunderbird at Richmond Raceway in the mid 80's, in Havoline colors, WITHOUT sponsor decals. Not sure what the story was, but there were NO decals other than numbers. The pic below shows the Davey with the car WITH decals. Imagine this car, with no decals.......again, not sure what the story was...... Mike
  3. Very nice Monaco. I love seeing these kits get some deserved attention! Mike
  4. NICE build, Hakan. I still prefer this old AMT kit's lines and proportion over the newer Revell release. It's a real classic! Mike
  5. +1 on this. I really like this copper tape for situations when wire just won't work. It's thin, has an ultra-sticky adhesive backing, and you can use a fresh #11 blade to cut it into thin strips....(I'm a guitar repairman, which should explain the source)....... Copper tape Mike
  6. I have one in the works right now. It's great so far. Everything seems to be fitting together real nice. Mike
  7. Nice find! You gotta love when that happens! I met George Barris at a car show about 10 years ago. I purchased a $10 calendar from him, and had it autographed. He was more than happy to sign a bunch of my own personal Barris items as well. There were other folks waiting, so I kept a few things in the bag I was carrying, not wanting to take too much of an advantage of the opportunity. As I thanked him and shook his hand, he said, "what else do you have in the bag?" So, I pulled out a set of Target Exclusives; the 1:64 Johnny Lightning Munster Coach and a Dragula. He lifted his sunglasses and stood and looked at both of those for AT LEAST 2 solid minutes with a smile on his face, laid them on the table and signed them both. He then said, "I don't even have THESE in my OWN collection!!". I offered them up, but (thankfully) he gracefully declined. Mike
  8. Looks promising, AND it can be clearcoated! That's a huge plus over using the Alclad products. Mike
  9. Man, I have BEEN there so many times.... I just finished a Revell '66 Impala recently which REALLY gave me fits along the way.....it's the one in my avatar pic. It turned out really nice, but let me tell you, if I weren't so stubborn, I would have chucked that one in the gabrage can half-way through the build! Stick with it, you WILL get through it, AND you'll learn along the way. Hey, if they all went together like a piece of cake, we'd get bored and move on to something more challenging. Mike
  10. I just finished a Rat Packer Chevy II Nova. I used the 'Chevy 2 Much' decal set from Slixx which has the Doug's Headers in a 'gold leaf' font. They look great.... Slixx Chevy 2 Much/Doug's Headers Mike
  11. Heck, I'd pay the $18 just to shop for some cool toys. I mean, hey, I paid $10 to get into the last NNL event I attended! Aside from that, there were some awesome deals to be had on collector-grade cars the first couple days. When you can purchase a fully restored classic for the price of the restoration alone, you're pretty good, whether you're buying at B-J or not. Mike
  12. +1 on that....a dedicated behind the scenes show. Mike
  13. Classic Mopar Sport-Luxury! Mike
  14. I hear where you're coming from, Donald. We're probably thinking along different lines, that's all. While having piles of kits just sitting on a shelf might seem a bit excessive to some, I see it as an affordable luxury. It's a hobby that I thoroughly enjoy, AND can afford to. I'm 44 now, been building since '72 or so, and I went a LOT of years 'buying a kit, building a kit' as $$ allowed, not really having any real 'collection' of unbuilts to speak of. I dropped out of the hobby for a bunch of years in the 90's, and didn't really jump back in until my son, Alex, started showing interest in building....he's now a 3-time NNL Junior-class winner, BTW...... So, I blame him! It wasn't long before we were attending toy and model shows together, and scouring the shelves of the local hobby stores, Alex looking for easy-builders, and me searching for the long-lost, and/or 'never-had' kits of my youth. Before I knew it, I had acquired a couple of shelves of clean, unbuilt kits, old AND new. Alex has also built a little stash of his own. NOW, I visit my stash when the mood strikes, and pick something off of the shelves that really lights my fire at THAT very moment....sort of a 'striking while the iron's hot' kinda thing. HAVING a decent little collection allows me that luxury. That said, I really don't have much $$ tied up in my collection, relatively speaking, so I don't have to feel guilty about having them stacked up in my basement. Can't say that about some of my friends who have many thousands of dollars tied up in stalled, unfinished 1:1 auto restorations (can you say money pit?), or a few of my other buddies who have buckets of cash wrapped up in a boat that they only get to enjoy once in a while, when the weather cooperates. So, in the end, to each his own. Some of my fellow builders are still quite content 'buying a kit, building a kit', and that's great too. Regardless, we're building, and we're enjoying each others enthusiasm for the hobby. As long as there are legions of us doing so, there will always be a modeling hobby. What's not to like about that? Mike
  15. Hey, who's the stooge 'handler' on the B/J stage that just tried to pry open the hood of the '55 Caddy Eldorado (lot #966.2) by pulling on the hood ornament!!?? He must have watched as the ham-fisted 'Speed' narrator aggressively yanked the hood open on the '47 Caddy Series 62 (lot #965) by its hood ornament just minutes before. What a buffoon. Mike
  16. Thanks for the link, Jon. Watching it now, myself. I caught a little of it last night, and there was a black on black '61 Impala that was just incredible. Redline tires on steelies with dogdish hubcaps, if I recall. Sweet!, Mike
  17. I hear ya, Les!! I'll bring the pizza.... Mike
  18. Mark, when you have a room dedicated, you know you got it bad! Like you, it seems as though my stash had taken on a life of its own there for a while. I was always looking for MORE ROOM to fit a fresh stack. Keep in mind, most of my kits were purchased second-hand, and I'm a sucker for a good deal! Can't tell you how many times ONE old kit has lead me to MORE, and you know, I can't have just one. I have learned to FOCUS, and buy only what I know I'll be inspired to build. No more, "hey, a new reissue!....I better buy a couple before they're all gone!". Besides, there are so many cool paint colors and metal-etch detailing kits to buy!! Mike
  19. I found a small stash of built-ups that I'll snap a few pics of ASAP. Still, more of the same as you saw in my original post. There's a mid-70's Dart, a '68 Bonneville convertible (I inherited from my father-in-law, freshly rechromed bumpers and such, and soon to be restored), a Johan DeSoto, etc., etc. Good stuff guys. Thanks for posting! Brings back some great memories of old kits. AMT/Round2 will have their collective hands full if they decide to reissue even more of the moldy oldies. BTW, there have been 525 views and only 30 replies to this post. It appears we have some 'lurkers'. Mike
  20. Dusters, Darts and Demons, OH MY! Mike
  21. NICE posts, guys! This whole 'show and tell' reminds me of why I love this hobby so much. If we all lived in the same neighborhood, our occasional Saturday evenings would surely be a good time. Mike
  22. So THAT'S where all the truck kits went!! NICE! Mike
  23. That's an impressive start! NICE. Mike
  24. Yup, this thread is all about the pics. Show us what you're hoarding! Mike
  25. Come on, just show us the pics. We won't judge you. Mike
