  1. Art, now you have me wanting to buy some Evergreen to build a new frame, and make this a racer like the 999-II, using the block and hood from the Lindberg kit.
  2. Art, Thank you so much for your wonderful reply. I really appreciate your time and helpfulness...and anytime I can learn something new about the Indy 500, I am all ears. This Lindberg kit is pretty basic, and with my skill set being so low, I'll probably leave the fenders on it since they are molded into the body. I know that anyone looking for speed would have removed them back in the day. Can you give me any insight as to how to modify the springs so the front end sits a little lower? Or should I just start cutting, and modify as I build, and see if it all works? If I remove the height of the front spring by 1/4", will I need to lengthen the front spindles by 1/4" taller to make it work, since all the wheels are the same size? Again, thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!! I really do appreciate your helpfulness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I like the Model Masters spray cans, but they are a bit pricey too. I just used Rustoleum cans, and got as nice of a finish one can expect from a spray can. At 3.87 for a full size can, it is hard to beat.
  4. Unbelievable work!!!!!! I actually like the shed. It looks like a real shed at a real Clark station.
  5. Absolutely stunning work!!!! I don't think I could build anything comparable to that model in a million years!!!
  6. Look in the tutorial section of the forum. He wrote an excellent tutorial on this topic. The thread is pinned at the top right now.
  7. I totally agree. I needed the windshield for my daughter's Ferrari 4-H project, and emailed Revell about buying another one. I told them that we bought the kit second hand. Just a few weeks later, the parts came in the mail free of charge. I don't buy many kits, but Revell has my business in the future. Revell has excellent customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I totally agree. There are some killer deals to be found on ebay.
  9. I thought I had figured out a cheap but super-duper effective way to apply paint last week for a cool finish, and then by chance, I saw a YouTube video of someone in Europe doing the exact same thing!!!!!! I thought I was really smart for a few days...
  10. I had a small problem with my daughter's 4-H model entry and was looking for plastics to use to scratch build a new part. I got the grand idea to laminate strips of plastic from a fast food cup, so I stacked them and glued them together with Testors model cement. FWIW, the glue didn't work at all, and my lamination creation fell apart in my hands. The LHS is a 20 minute drive, they are pricey, and sometimes, not too friendly. What types of plastics can I use? Are there common packing plastics that I can use when I get into a bind, and need some plastics for a model? I know that some people use 2 liter bottles for windows. What else is there for us budget builders? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I am sorry to sound like an idiot...please forgive. I am back in the hobby after a 25 year hiatus, and want to try to build some mods into my Lindburg 1910 Model T kit. Sure, I know it is a super basic kit, but it was only $8 with shipping on ebay. While I'd like some top end kits, I'm on a budget, especially while I hone my skills again. I'd like to modify this kit some to make it look like it was an early Model T racer, as if someone bought it second hand and entered it into the local race tracks. Is it possible to make the back end of the car sit higher than the front end, using all of the same size of wheels and tires??? How can I best achieve that stance? Again, I am sorry to ask such basic questions. I've always built 100% box stock. I hate to hack up any kit, even an $8 one, so I thought I would ask here first. Thank you so much!!!!!
  12. Great link, and a great thread. I'm a huge Indy car and Indy 500 fan, but I've never seen that website before.
  13. I'm no fan of Walmart or corporate America. But, in my opinion, the loss of a mass merchandiser/retailer of models hurt this hobby pretty bad. Most kids bought a model because they thought the subject was cool. Those who enjoyed it bought more models, and those who stuck with it graduated to higher end models found at the LHS. The model building hobby is losing generations of kids each year, mostly because models are "out of sight, and out of mind".
  14. Excellent tip!!! Thank you for posting it!!!!!!!!
  15. Sorry, Harry. I'm still a newbie on this forum, and am still learning my way around.
  16. I'm curious to know if you build other models other than car/truck. Most of my teenage years were spent building WWII era war birds and WWII military. I'll be looking for an airplane to build sometime in the future, most likely a P-51 Mustang or a Me 109. I am still very passionate about the air war in both WWII theaters, especially Europe. So, are you an automotive modeler only?
  17. You have two very nice builds. I'm almost 4 times your age, and wish I could build as good as you do. I do love the Indy car...you know, this is the month of May, and the Indy 500 will be held on the 27th. Maybe you can listen in or watch the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".
  18. Wow...the upcoming resin looks awesome. My first car was a '73 Malibu.
  19. Updates on this '73 Chevelle? I didn't see it on the ML website.
  20. Monty and Brett, Thanks for the info!!! I appreciate it!!!!
  21. Okay, if I understand correctly the '64 Mustang had an engine painted lighter than what is typically known as 'Ford Engine Blue". Appears to be closer to a robin egg blue than a royal (?). Either way, thanks!!!! Do you think this will happen if I mix royal and white?
  22. I am trying to be really selective on the paint that I buy. Can I mix Model Masters enamel with Testors enamel for brush on application? I have an antique bottle of royal blue Testors, and would like to try to match the early Ford engine light blue by mixing the royal blue with MM white. Thoughts? Also, how do you mix your paints? How do you decant the paint? Just pour it out into a container? Use an eye dropper? What containers do you use for mixing? Thank you in advance!!!!!
