I very much appreciate the input.... i am not very familar with this make and model and just assumed it was the gas tank. ..i'm having a more than one senior moment with this build. i've repainted the TRUNK FLOOR flat black , the gas tank was painted with MM metalizer aluminum and is really not that shiny .. let me know if anything else jumps out at you. thanks again

On the bench Revells 62 chevy impala. First build of the new year and its kicking me in the teeth. each step forward i take, i seem to take 2 backwards. first it was the engine block. primed with krlon gray then model master chevy engine red. for some reason the red paint did not cover very well ,after 2 coats it started to fill in the detail of the engine so i stripped it and started over. 2nd attempt same as the first. the paint pooled in the corners and looked messy. back into the the oven cleaner bath it went. i ended up painting it red. next it was the BMF... let me tell you , i have a love hate relationship with this stuff. for each piece i applied right there were at least 2 that i either tore while applying or burnishing. after getting one piece on and looking decent i stopped and sealed it with clear gloss just to be on the safe side and help prevent it from tearing. which i did on more than one accession while applying the next piece. next it was the interior. again primed ,let dry for a few days then color. this time the paint spidered , but only on the side panels. the seats and the dash were fine, all primed and painted at the same time. no idea why??? into the oven cleaner with them for a do over as well. here are a few photos of it so far.

happen to read your sig line Rob..... hope you don't mind if i copy it?

truth be told ..i'd much rather read constructive criticism on a build of mine than post after post of nice job. great work .ata boy. In fact i would prefer it. i actually ask for it. if you see a work of mine .PLEASE take the gloves off and let me have it. i still consider myself a novice model builder , i respect the heck out of the builders on this forum and the only way i can become a better model builder is one. build more models and two reading honest and constructive criticism from the group of people i consider some of the best builders around.

i work outside all year long. winters are the worse for dry cracking hands and feet. i get terrible cracks on my heels. i have used every product on the market and found that plain old vaseline rubbed into my hands and feet works best. I sliced my hand open this past summer with a box knife. the E.R. doc asked if i wanted stitches or super glue....never knew i had a choice. opted for the glue. as expected it burned like a son of a gun but no needles ,i hate needles ..left almost no scare.

This is just BEAUTIFUL.....your work is outstanding.

WOW...LOVE THIS.... nice job

testers bottles have always been the worst...i end up crimping the cap with the channel locks ,may as well toss them after that. i have tried sitting the jars/bottles upside down in thinner and it works most times but takes time waiting for the thinner to work.

Michael's - what's your opinion?
BubbaJoe replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
locally i have a Michaels,AC Moore and a hobby lobby.out of the 3 i would have to say hobby lobby has a much better selection of kits and supplies. AC Moore would be 2nd and in a distant 3rd Michaels. very small modeling section and very pricy even with the coupons i think they are very over priced -
Was Santa good to you?

I thought i would share this little tip , my apologies if this has been mentioned before. one thing that drives me crazy is the amount of time i spend keeping paint jars and caps clean . the arthistis in my hands is starting to prevent me from open jars and lids. paint jars are no exception. what makes it worse is when the lids get painted shut and i have to break out a pair of channel locks to help unscrew the tops. i try cleaning the lids and lips after each use but sometimes they still get paint in-between the rim and the lid making unscrewing the lid next to impossible (yeah my hands are that bad) i solved this problem by using glads press and seal paper. i clean the lip of the paint jar and cut a piece of press and seal to fit the edge and well... press and seal .the paper sticks to the lid but is very easy to remove and it keeps the paint off the lid...and opening the paint is now a breeze..for the most part depending on how bad my hands are that day..anyways thought i'd pass it along.

I would have sworn it was a 1:1 until i clicked on the third photo down and saw your reflection in the fender going for a close up shot...truly outstanding work..bravo!!!

thanks bruce.. yeah , i know.. you think your doing everything right and somehow it gets messed up.wish i could point a finger at paint or weather or something i did ..anything..just so i know where and how i went wrong . i'm happy the 2nd time around went well... I purchased the shark from A.C Moore craft store.. think the company is called safari ltd. big selection of animal life ,very realistic and it was pretty much in scale to the sub.
-
all i can say is WOW!!!! outstanding

Thanks...came lose to tossing it out. i had a real problem with paint.. 2 coats of primer. 2 coats of color(krylon rattle can).sanding in between. couple days of dry time between coats. final color coat was applied and the paint spidered and crinkled over most of the body.tried sanding it out but it was ruined... stripped the body with oven cleaner and started over. same process same time frame this time no problem.. i was so afraid of clear coating that i used future and brushed it on rather than risking using a rattle can.. any ideas as to what went wrong ..i'm baffeled.

love the bathroom..well done -
this is my take on the Sea Quest stinger sub. its suppose to be a very dark blue almost black in color but i just saw it as wanting to be yellow. I detailed the cockpit using BMF bits and pieces from a old mac and colored tape used for ladies fingernails. the kit came with 2 headlights that were suppose to be attached inside the canopy ,but it covered to much of the detailing of the cockpit so i left them out. instead i made a set to attach on top from extra sprue and a couple of pens. also fabricated the antenea using a tip from an old paintbrush and a fishing leader. i picked this kit up at a flea market for $3.who could pass it up for that price. the shark was not part of the kit nor the plants.
-
thanks..it actually was a white rabbit ,white plastic from one of those cheap bag of animals at the dollar store, i tried to make it look a bit more realistic
-
it didn't ..here is the before and after .i forget which kit the rims came from ..great eyes BTW
