Ok friends, this GTO is as finished as I am allowing it to get. The paint job is totally botched. I primed it last evening, let it sit overnight. Sanded it a bit this morning, and shot Testors One Coat "Star Spangled Blue". I don't know if it is the paint and the primer not working together, or maybe that it was the VERY last dregs of paint in the rattle can, but the finish is bad and keeps getting worse. On the positive side, I really had a blast doing this. As an adult modeler I have never finished a kit that quickly. Kudos to everyone who participated, great work one and all. Looking forward to other CBP's, just not ones with such a deadline perhaps. Thanks for your comments. The body is headed for a brake fluid bath, sigh. Sean. p.s. Obviously a big part of the problem is that I hung way too much paint on this model, just rushing at the last minute and wanting to be done.

Hey Rob M., I love the weathering on the chassis for the '57 Chevy! That looks great.

Well, as of 8:00 pm this evening I have a completed chassis and interior. My first attempt at painting the body, what can I say? FAIL I airbrushed MM acryl over silver enamel, heavy etching of enamel basecoat, BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH! So, I stripped the body and hood, and shot primer, and this is where we sit as of now.

Jurgen, hats off to you. Super clean build quality, gorgeous color and paint job. A beautiful little model. Best wishes, Sean.

Beautiful model Marcos. I love me a mopar! I will have to do another one of these to get it back on my shelf. Best wishes, Sean.

Outstanding work sir. Gives me inspiration for more complex building.

Hi all. I just recently abandoned my first opening door project because it was just giving me fits. I really want something that looks closer to oem hinges on real cars. I think I may have hit on something, two words, "eyeglass hinges". Go to this website; www.tailiglassesparts.com Just look at the hinges, the ideas start to roll. Or, you could go to the dollar store and literally spend $5 for 10 hinges. Armed with a hobby saw and super glue cut the hinges out and make them fit and work in your project. I am actually excited about starting another project with opening features. If anyone has tried this and ran into nightmares let me know, but I think this sounds really good so far. Best wishes, Sean.

Here is my w.i.p. so far on the '04 Pontiac GTO. I started today around 11:00 I think. I have changed my mind on body color 3 times I believe, and have settled for MM Acryl True Blue Pearl, over silver basecoat. Going with the acryl so hopefully by Sunday I can handle the body for assembly. I am shooting for a mild custom look, all polished engine with color accents. Two tone interior. Kit is being done totally box stock, and for a snap tite kit, it really is not bad. Wheels will be black chrome. Thats it for now, back to the bench. Sean.

Count me in. I will do an '04 Pontiac GTO. Not sure if I can knock it out, but will give it a try. Let's all have some fun. Sean

Hi all. I have been at the bench lately working on this Plymouth. It is my first attempt at doing opening doors/trunk, I am just going along slowly and trying not to do anything that can't be undone The engine has a little bit of scratchbuilt detailing, the velocity stacks, and header flanges I made. The distributor is the kit part with boots made from stripped insulation from an ethernet cable, it was still not fun to wire up. Still need to do final touch-up painting then it is reading to be installed. The drivetrain is all kit pieces, I did the 'barber pole' on the driveshaft because I thought it would look neat, and I like it. I have decided on gold as the main color, maybe with red scallops from the front, always subject to change. I already de-chromed the wheels, wish I hadn't, the black chrome look on the rear end cover looks really cool, and I would have done wheels that way also. Since they are stripped though, probably going to be red. Enjoy, and I will have more up as I am able. Sean.

Gorgeous build Paul. Clean, clean modeling with an amazing paint job, what is not to love? Well done bud! Sean W.

I want to echo what Len said, I really want to do hinges that look like real car door hinges, so I will really be interested to see what you come up with. I know it can work, just have to figure out how.

Hi Tim. I'm in the midst of doing my first opening door/trunk job. A '69 Plymouth GTX pro street kit. I will keep an eye on yours and see how we both progress. Best wishes, Sean Oh, I will have WIP pictures up soon. -
Wow! What is left to say? The whole build is a real inspiration, the scratchbuilding, the paint and color choices, that amazing engine, beautiful interior. You put the whole package together so well. Outstanding work Paul.

Hi Shawn. I am going to follow this build, I am working on my first model with opening doors. I really need pointers on making up the door jambs. Does removing the whole front clip like that help with the door hinging? Looking forward to seeing the progression. Sean

Hi Sonny, welcome to the hobby and the forum. You can never go wrong with a great old Mopar like the Superbird. Box stock is how practically everyone who does these models started out, you are on the right track. Have fun with your build, that is the whole name of the game, to have a good time. I will try to keep up with your build. Best wishes, Sean.

I drive a 95 Saturn station wagon, has 220,000+ on it right now. Other than the valve body for the automatic tranny, it runs like a top. I kind of want to keep it going just to see how many miles I can get out of it. -
That hood is awesome. Looks like it could inhale most birds and a lot of small dogs!! Great work, kudos.

Wow! What a killer job my friend. You have been to a few u-pull-it yards haven't you. Great eye for all the little details.
-
Great job on smoothing in the T-top roof panels. Nice work buddy. Keep it up.
-
Excellent job overall, but especially nice work on the carbon fiber decals. Gives me a benchmark to shoot for. Keep up the great work.

From one Sean to another, great job. I really like Subaru's, and you did a great job. Kudos

I love the rising sun detail on the valve cover, that really sets it off. Kudos.
