Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Quick GMC replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
It's nearly impossible to keep out of our AC system. It's not a breathing hazard or really that bad, but when trying to lay down a nice paint job, it does have an affect. One thing I was thinking is putting a filter over the vent for the air coming into the room, that would limit the dust flying around. the other problem with my other booths was I had to open the window to place the vent board outside. Well dust would get into the room between the little crevices. I'll be cutting a hole in the wall to have a permanent vent outside with a door on the other side to make it a one way vent. These two should help tremendously. -

I work in a granite shop. The dust outside pales in comparison -
Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?

I can't move. I work for my dad's business which has been anchored down here for almost 35 years. I'm pretty much here forever. There is a large desert on the other side of those buildings, which goes for miles and miles, all the down and past my house, near the windmills. So my wife told my parents I was looking at a spray booths, i was showing her the one I wanted. before I could explain I was going to build my own, they ordered it for me for my birthday. I got it last night, a week early. So here I am with the Artograph spray booth. It may be an overpriced exhaust fan, but this thing is built WELL. I am working with James to figure out how to make it even better. We have a good plane to make it fully enclosed. I was going to build an enclosed box from a cabinet, but I think I can do the same with this booth. I don't have the heart to return it, and I really like it, so I'll make it work. -

I used to work on those cars right out of high school, about 12 years ago. They are very fun to drive. -

which makes it not a Cobra R, it was just a clone. They were all white, and the blocks were serialized at the factory when built. If your Dad's block doesn't have the serial number, it's not and R. only 250 were made in '95. And just the fact that it was automatic, it's definitely not an R. That doesn't mean it wasn't a really cool car though. -

This is what I am dealing with on a regular basis. Sanding will get it out but the only two bodies I have ever completed required sanding and reps rating and still ended up with the paint rubbed through http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83137&view=&hl=&fromsearch=1 -

The 95 cobra R was white. It wasn't the standard cobra. -
I thought purple would only work for the Diablo, but this looks great. I love the carbon fiber through the rear glass. What color is that?

That was my point. Anything mass produced into a patty, nugget or tube is going to be a bunch of mush funneled through a pipe and squeezed into final form. It's not pleasant to look at, but it's delicious.

Model Building Stereotypes

My receptionist grew up around her dad's auto body shop. She thinks I'm insane gong through all the stuff we do to paint little car bodies. -
The pink slime stuff they make the chicken nuggets out of that they made a big deal of on the news is nothing out of the ordinary. How did you think mass produced chicken nuggets would look like? People don't know what goes on to make our food, then the news sensationalizes something and everybody all of sudden wants to boycott the restaurant because they're too dumb to spend 5 minutes fact checking. Same thing with Subway. the news runs a story about Subway may not be as healthy as you think. NO BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, it's fast food wrapped in lettuce and parmesan bread. McDonalds, Wendy's, BK, they are all disgusting, poor quality food, but it's delicious and I'm bound to end up at one or the other tomorrow.

It was built to be on a track, it doesn't need ac or radio. -

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?

Palm Springs. It's not all like that though, It's certain areas where the wind funnels through, which happens to be exactly where I live, and where I work. I grew up a few towns over, which is just a 10-15 minute drive, and we never had wind issues. Here is another idea. Building a Lexan box to drop down over the booth onto the desk. This way I can enjoy the AC, I get the spray booth I want and it's sealed like the blast box, but it's easy disassembled. I hope you can make sense of this -
The America that everyone wants to reminisce about and wish would come back is gone. It will never be what it was. This is good in some ways, bad in others. Adapt or die.

The US ships chicken to China for processing, then imports it back in. The US exports most of it's Salmon, then imports inferior Salmon for us to eat. It's not Chinese chicken, it's just Chinese processed. It works this way with a large number of consumer goods all over the world. I work in the stone industry. They quarry granite slabs in Brazil, then load up a container ship and send it to China. Then china sends it back, then we buy it from Brazil> Somehow that's cheaper than Brazil buying processing equipment.

Our record rainfall for the year is under 5 inches, and that pretty much happened within 48 hours. It rains about twice a year, outside of that it is typically dusty. Some nice days, but if I waited for the dust free days, I wouldn't be accomplishing much. We don't experience seasons, or freeze thaw. It's death for 5 months and pretty BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH nice for the other 7. Minus the wind. In other areas of the valley, like 15 minutes East, it's perfect. No wind at all. I think I have it figured out, at least on a temporary budget anyway. The way my bench is positioned, i can place the artograph booth on top, then surround the bench with plastic from floor to ceiling with those Zip Wall things. If I need to take it down, it will all come down in a few minutes. I don't like the idea of a visquene room inside my room, but for right now, it's the only thing that makes sense to be. it's the easiest to set up and break down. The one thing I have not addressed is the heat. It's in front of the hottest window in the house and there won't be ac inside the plastic. I guess if it's sealed off, and I run the booth to clear the air, I can run a small fan to cool me down, or is that a bad idea to have any moving air in there? -
Someone posted a model in one of those "show me your xxxx models" threads and for the life of me I cannot find it. It was the 65 Chevy Stepside truck, but it was a fully built custom pro street with a caged 4 link rear end. The color was bright Pinkish/Burgandy-ish. Maybe HOK Brandywine or something like that. i want to use that model as a reference for my own. i have a lot of trouble coming up with ideas on how to execute stuff like this because I am not familiar with the setups in real life. If anyone can direct me to that thread it would be greatly appreciated.
