LongRoofNut replied to robo37's topic in Model Cars
The wheel covers look right at home on the Galaxie. What color is that? -
Beautiful!

For a few moments there I went back to high school. This thing is CLEAN, great work!

WOW! Bravo! I ordered the Coupe DeVille as well. I was thinking triple black or a deep ocean metallic blue with a white half top and matching interior.

Thank you guys for the comments!

Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
LongRoofNut replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was about 12-13 years old when I read in the other mag about these. My folks showed up with a Ronco from Sams Club, same model Harbor Freight carries. The ol gal is now on it's 20th year with me. Every car you see me post all have been in there. Both resin and plastic, new and old. Key is simple. You are not baking a car body but just warming the air around it. Most bodies sit on the third rack and the top vents open. I have always uses Testors paints, no issues with them ever. -

Job well done! One of these are on my "to get list". So many of them, not enough time! -

Man this is a good one! I will play along to! 1.) 1975-1978 Lincoln Town Coupe triple black, glass sliding moon roof with a 460 2.) 1977-1978 Ford LTD Country Squire black with red leather, 460, lighted entry, trailer tow pack, four wheel disc, rear ABS. 3.) 2013 Mustang black, manual trans, biggest engine I can stuff in her. 4.) 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, black with red interior, 350, (like my moms that I grew up with) 5.) 1975 - 1985 Volvo 240 GL wagon, white with tan leather. What I own/drive/maintain: 1.) Daily driver: 1995 Buick Roadmaster sedan, tan, 350 CID 2.) 1978 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon, green, 400 CID 3.) 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, black, 305 CID 4.) 1973 Buick Century wagon, green, 350 CID

Looks like it could be a backround car in CHiPs or The Dukes Of Hazard. Nice work!

That engine is simply beautiful!

John: The wheel covers are from a Ford van kit and the tires are from American Satco (bought a ton when I was a teenager). The top was hand made by using plastic strips and a careful hand. The "vinyl" was replicated by Rustolum textured paint in dark brown.

Man this is such a cool conversion! Off the top of my head, I don't think I have seen anyone try this in scale form. Any ideas on what wagon back your going to use? Or will you scratch build your own?

Other than models. Well I collect and service my own 1:1 collection of '70s cars, collect and service 8 track tapes/decks, collect off the wall and random (lost) movies or TV movies from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, also big into the out of doors. Parks and Rec was my major in college, did a lot of water sports and camping while in college.

Ron: MAN! That '71 looks simply awesome! Looks like it has '70 issued wheel covers. Or did they come on the '71 kit? It is funny how things turn out on real cars. I went in a Ford/Mercury dealer in 2004 to look another Lincoln Town Car. I had a Town Car in green, 1996 with 130k and had seen a black one with a glass sun roof (dealer installed) on the lot. Few hours later I was signing the paper work for a brand new 2004 black Mustang five speed at a little over a week away till college. One of the moments in your life that your pretty sure you lost it and ask yourself what on earth did you do. Longest car I ever owned, sold it this time last year.

Thank you everyone for the comments. Ron: Yes that is a Modelhaus kit. I have a few kits from the Modelhaus, love them all and HIGHLY recommend them and Missing Link. Top quality and some really great subjects. As for the accident. This poor wagon, the world seemed to hate it. I had some kids bash out my front windshield (drunk kids) a month after I got it road worthy and then hit a dear a month later. The ol gal NEVER gave me a problem. So I had my Mustang and my LTD down at college with me at the same time. Try explaining to people your not rich but was a Volvo tech for a few years before going back to college and working on this is like working on a lawnmower to me. So my best friend comes down the night before I graduated from Western IL U down in Macomb, IL. He took his truck, rented the trailer and came down to help me out. Loaded up the wagon and the trailer did not want to "ramp down" but we got it. We went out, had a great night out with freinds and he left early in the morning. I kept hearing this buzzing, it was my phone and so I picked it up to see I missed 13 calls. It was my buddy, he was in the hospital. His truck rolled over. Turned out the trailer brake locked up, sent the F-250, V-10, four door, 8 foot box truck into a skid and rolled.......off went the wagon for the ride of its life. From a distance the wagon looked fine, till you got closer. Cracked frame, cracked trans, had a RCA home unit stereo from the '70s in there, so it distroyed the insides. It was a loss, so was his truck. As for my friend, he had some scratches but walked away. I can replace a car but can't replace him. I almost missed my graduation since I was an hour north at the hospital. Didn't even have time to shower or shave when I walked. I must have looked like a scummy creep when I graduated! LOL.

Like I tell people, LTD stands for Love To Drive. The '78 I am with in my avitar has 252k original miles on the clock. Oil pressure is really low once it gets hot, so shes due for a proper rebuild. But hey! She has raised two familes, driven across country countless times, been in Chicago for the bulk of its life and now in the garage of a collector that enjoys the moose for what it is! Charlie: I would like to find a 2 door with a glass moon roof and the Landau trim. Of course with the mighty and loyal 460. Sixx: From what I know Missing Link still has the '78 LTD and YES you can back date it to a '75. The LTD line was pretty much the same from 1975 to 1978. am73Grand: Ron, you would be a God send if you could find that color. Used to see it all the time and poof, over night when I need it, it's gone. Isn't that how life works out in general anyway? LOL!

Thank you everyone for the comments! Mike: Yea I wanted a darker blue interior but it came out a bit lighter (almost with a purple hint) than I wanted but I can live with it. A buddy of mine had a silver two tone, a '87. Figured it was time to get on this one. Monty: They were standard Goodyear Polyglass tires with a black wall in my parts box. The white walls were made by me using a Gell pen and a stencil from Hobby Lobby. I have yet to figure out what or if I want to coat it with anything to protect it. So far they are holding up well. If you make a mistake, use some Testors paint thinner and start over.
