Adhesive wide white walls

Just picked up some Scotch brand vinyl tape in both red and white that looks promising; let's see what the circle cutter does to it. -

1965 Plymouth Hits a Tree
ChrisBcritter replied to 1930fordpickup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Anybody else wonder what sort of collision this was? Certainly not a single point impact. Looks like he got airborne and crashed through a whole lot of heavy tree limbs rather than hit the tree trunk. Edit: Looks like several of us were wondering the same thing. Anyway, shouldn't be too hard to check court records to ID the thief and find out how badly he was (hopefully) injured. -
If the AMT molds for this are still around someplace and can be brought back to stock: ...it could be rereleased as the Old Man's car from Pawn Stars: And the same deal with the '65 Continental. Seems like a natural; something for the cast members to autograph for their fans (and the rest of us to build). By the way, if you want to be picky, the wheelcovers on the kit were not changed from '65; you'd have to get a set of Jo-Han '67-'68 Imperial wheelcovers to be correct for '66. (Could this be a first? Two TV cars from the same kit.)

As I was saying, we really need a good '34 Chevy 5-window kit: And so you can examine the details, a few more frame grabs:

Isn't this a Poly engine? Danbury Mint '57 Dodge Sweptline parts. Just sold for ten bucks on eBay: -
Stopped at Hobby Town USA and picked up some paint for the '62 Impala convertible. Will Testor's Gloss Metallic Gold enamel work okay over Tamiya primer, or should I use something else? Also won a complete built engine from the AMT '63 Nova wagon on eBay.

Keep an eye out for stolen 62 Vette
ChrisBcritter replied to Scalper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/crime-and-justice/Betsy+stolen+Corvette+located+police/10056600/story.html I hope so. -
I picked up one of those as well; the body looks like I could improve it by cutting it vertically just behind the door almost to the top of the doors and spreading it apart at the bottom, sticking a wedge in wide enough to take out the kink in the body and filling it in. Anyone tried to fix this issue?

Revell '56 Chevy. First time I'd gotten a kit with a chassis so warped it was unbuildable; not to mention the syrupy-looking chrome tree. Palmer kits? They looked cheap on their boxes, so I wasn't expecting much anyway. (Though if anyone has a '64 Plymouth Sport Fury body... please let me know!) At least I didn't feel bad about building them quick and playing with them to death in the backyard. Jo-Han '63 Rambler and '62 Studebaker: Beautifully executed, accurate, crisp moldings. So why were they so BIG? Try displaying one next to an AMT Falcon or Corvair.

Keep an eye out for stolen 62 Vette
ChrisBcritter replied to Scalper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What happened in Oregon wasn't surprising - my ex-boss's Range Rover was stolen from his house in Arch Cape by a friend of the tenant, who sold it to somebody, who sold it to somebody else - and the judge let the last buyer keep the vehicle even though it was reported stolen. Did I mention Oregon doesn't like folks from California very much? -
Thanks for the link, Bob - lots of inspiration there. The Volkswagen Mini Stocks were new to me - might be something fun to do with that IMC VW I've had sitting around forever.

I've only built one kit for a friend, to match his Mercedes 560SEC; it ended up being a rather drawn-out process because I'm not a fast builder. It was a Tamiya Mercedes 500SEC Lorinser, which I modified to match by altering the 500 emblem, lowering the rear end, and modifying the kit wheels to look like the slotted rims his had by carving out the centers and replacing them with centers from (of all things) the mags from the Monogram '30 Model A street rod, with little bolts to simulate the center caps and tiny holes all around to look like the cap screws on the outer rim. Painted it white with gold trim and a tan interior, adding some real leather in the door panel recesses and a couple tiny cassettes in the console. While I was doing this, however, real life threw a curveball: my friend and his partner got carjacked at gunpoint in Hollywood. Fortunately they weren't hurt, and amazingly the car was located undamaged in northern CA two weeks later, missing the license plates (which I'd already added to the kit). Soon afterward when I gave him the model, I offered to correct the plates, but he said he was too happy to get both cars back to worry about it!

Tell me about it. My former boss bought a really pretty red '69 XKE DHC at Barrett-Jackson one year for $36k; the guys on TV were oohing and aahing over how clean and good running it was. Once he got it home it took another $10k with a Jag specialist to get it sorted out to be a decent driver. Sure was a rush to ride in, though...

Aw rats. If I knew you wanted an original Ice "T" I have one I would have traded. Forgot I had the darn thing...

MAD '57 Ford Four-Door Sedan transkit
ChrisBcritter replied to Chuck Most's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kris, will you be doing a correct rear seat for this body style as well? The ends of the rear seat would be rounded off rather than square: First one is Australian RHD and the other one's a Fairlane but you get the idea. I have to do the same thing to recreate my uncle's Fairlane town sedan. -
Matchbox cars 1965...
ChrisBcritter replied to Brizio's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very interesting to see that painting process with the bodies spinning back and forth! I destroyed or lost a lot of Matchbox cars when I was little, but somehow I hung on to a few... The Anglia and the Coca-Cola truck, both with gray wheels, are the oldest - had 'em since '62 or '63. -
That Vette's been drooled over on many forums over the years - last I heard it had been sold, or moved - it's gone from Google Street View.

Just got back from an estate sale in Highland Park; lots of boxed kits are going cheap - got another AMT '62 Bel Air and a '62 Catalina, as well as a 1/32 Chevy Malibu Mount Prospect police car, all sealed, plus a large folding magnifier and a few household goods for $15.00 total. The Chevy will donate its roof to my '61 Bonneville, and the Catalina's stock grille and bumper will go into the pre-painted custom version, then I'm thinking of stuffing the drivetrain into my '40 Mercury convertible. For any Chicago NW suburbanites interested, it's at 205 Ivy Lane in Highland Park: http://www.estatesales.net/estate-sales/IL/Highland-Park/60035/662610 The 1/43 and 1/32 builtups in the photos are gone but the two Mini Lindy Vettes, a lot of the kits, and a whole lot of diecasts are still there. Happy hunting!

The Corvair Topic
ChrisBcritter replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
AMT was thinking like GM - their Corvair was a curbside kit up until 1965, which probably saved them the same amount of money per car!
