  1. Really, the more I look at it, the more I think that the treatment here could have actually looked good - on a '61 Chrysler four-door hardtop wagon. On a Magnum all the elements are just too crowded together.
  2. Funny how when the new Stutz Blackhawk was created in 1971, it looked a lot like the rear of the Stutz kit mated with the front of the Duesenberg kit.
  3. Some cars are in way better shape than others, depending on the mechanic and the owner; what's surprising is how some cars, especially the tri-five Chevies, have "new parts brought from the USA". I imagine the owners have family connections here or possibly the repro parts come through Canada.
  4. And now for you Mopar buffs, how about a '58 Fury? Engine, transmission and brake system are Hyundai (which is common; most old cars in Cuba have had newer drivetrains, many of them diesels), and obviously this one didn't start out as a convertible. Finally one of the more grandiose (and confusing) deals this week. It's listed as a 1955 Chrysler, but it's a hybrid of '56 Chrysler and '55 Imperial, with a Russian Chaika front bumper for good measure. Does it have a Hemi? No, it has a Hino. Plus Mercedes transmission, Chevy rear end, and four-wheel discs. And it's got power windows! The ladies love it! Well, she likes it, anyway. Many more here, including a nice '28 Ford Roadster, lots of Chevies and even a few Cadillacs: http://www.revolico.com/autos/carros/search.html?q=&min_price=&max_price=&images=on (And if you're not a Cuban citizen, you can't buy any of 'em.)
  5. Every now and then I check out Cuba's version of Craigslist, Revolico.com, to check out the cars for sale. Today I was surprised to find three different '55-'56 Ford Crown Victorias. This one's been redone with a Ford 460: This one's a bit more stock. Pedro says he's the third owner; electrics are new but the V8 automatic drivetrain is all original: And a '55, not much info other than it's just been reupholstered with clear vinyl seat covers:
  6. Agreed - there's a big difference between "patina" and "advanced decay". I imagine they had to brace the hell (sorry Sister) out of that unibody to be able to open those doors without it collapsing.
  7. Who makes that circle cutter, and where can I find it? I've asked about it at Michael's and Hobby Lobby with zero results.
  8. The AMT '64 El Camino and Chevelle station wagon had the six-banger; there's a built-up wagon on eBay right now (wagon's a drag version, but the six is among all the leftover unbuilt parts): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-AMT-1964-Chevelle-Station-Wagon-Built-Model-Car-Kit-Box-/271448176630?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item3f339277f6
  9. I wonder where the rest of the T-bird kit is now? Wishful thinking, but if they found the body...
  10. Only thing I saw that I liked was the Revell snap '63 Vette at $17.99, so I could get it for $12.59 now - or wait till Sunday, print the 40% off coupon and get it for $10.79. I just ended up buying some Alumilite resin with a half-off coupon instead.
  11. Seven minutes of video, and the idiot cameraman/editor can't provide ONE side view shot? Jeez. Here: Sleek! Ditch that rocker panel chrome piece and the C-pillar emblem, and you'd think it was an early West Coast kustom.
  12. Hi Darren, Your great ideas just keep flowing... in a way it'll almost be a shame to see it finished. Here's my Flickr set showing my old Aztec photos - sort of a family album for me and my friends when we were performing back in the '70s and '80s: https://www.flickr.com/photos/62734960@N02/sets/72157638506039783/ Might give you a few ideas for decorations (or maybe make some 1/25 Aztec dancers to display with it?).
  13. Trading material? Somebody here was looking for NASCAR stuff.
  14. Can anyone ID the car being worked on in the first photo? Maybe a Valiant?
  15. Got a set of jeweler's files from Hobby Lobby that have already come in handy on the '61 Lincoln project (filing glue marks off the windshield before polishing, and making final tiny adjustments for the big surgical procedure - combining the good front half of the '61 body with the good back half of a '62).
  16. They look so cute when they're sleeping...
  17. Bzzzt! Wrong - thanks for playing. There's no shortage of AMT '59 and '60 Edsel kits and promos out there. (Unless the author meant to say "...after the 1960 model year...") It is nice to see what the early Tenite promos looked like before they started warping and shrinking. If only Cycolac could have been used earlier...
  18. I'm watching that auction too - not going to bid, just want to see what it goes for since I have a dismantled builtup in similar shape. Been debating for years whether I should open the hood and put in the whole driveline and chassis from a Monogram '59 Eldo.
  19. Biggest peeve for me was that the AMT kit's wheelcovers were flat-faced (no detail past the rim; all details even with it or recessed) - like Jo-Han wheelcovers. Monogram got them right.
  20. I'm surprised some enterprising customizer hasn't taken a clapped-out '54 Caddy sedan and cut it down to make a copy.
  21. Picked up a 75-piece tin of Dremel accessories on special at my local Ace Hardware for $9.99 - that will be a big help. (If you're in the Northbrook area it's the one at Dundee and Sanders - they had a couple tins left.)
  22. So, Tulio, have you ever built a Revell '57 Country Squire or Ranchero? I'd love to see your version of one of them (or their resin equivalent; there's a Ranch Wagon body available that way).
  23. Beautiful save on this one! I have a '59 convertible in the to-do pile. I wonder how a '60 Trumpeter Pontiac chassis and drivetrain would fit?
