People on the group like to gripe about how cheap car modelers are. I guess this the mark of a "real modeler" Personally, that's a little too real for me.

BTW, it's good to hear that the Foose kits did well, and I hope they'll continue to make more money for the new Revell. If things go well enough, maybe they'll be willing to take a risk on some new kits. That doesn't mean I'm not going to put my two cents in on the sort of kits I want to see when the opportunity presents itself.

Revell '29 Roadster, Late '50s Style

I trimmed the back a little, and added some quarter round rod along the bottom. The dash is an extra part from the Revell '29 that isn't listed in the instructions. The hole is just the right size and shape for a proper period style instrument panel, but since I don't find one in the box, I decided to build one from scratch. Since I don't have a punch, I just thinned out some evergreen tubing and sanded down the slices to make the bezels. I put the finished panel on the scanner to make a template for the gauges. They're based on vintage Stewart-Warner gauges, though I didn't have a font that was an exact match for was S-W used. However, since the finished gauge faces are going to be 3/16" and 1/8" across, I figured I could live with it. -
Chevelles don't do much for me, but a new kit is always good news, and MCG does have that Beaumont detail set. Hmmmmmm......

The Foose kit is by all accounts, a very nice replica of the original. Me, I don't presume to speak for anyone other than myself. I'm just tossing out kits I'd like to see. If anyone else thinks they'd like to see those kits, so much the better.

When the Stingray first came out, there was still some question about front vs. mid engine as the ultimate configuration for a performance car, but it was settled before the decade was out. Which is the most important part of the Corvette legacy, that of being America's ultimate performance car, or the relative position of all the parts? As for getting people used to the idea of a mid engined Corvette, how many decades has GM been doing exactly that? How many concepts, how many rumours have we been teased with? Has the reaction over been anything other than, "Wow, that would be so cool!"? When those plans fell through, I don't recall anyone going "Boy, did we ever dodge that bullet!". If anything, the reaction has been like the very first post, that it's about time. I'm going to assume that the Corvette fanbase is composed mostly of fairly rational adults, and not autistic children, and I'm going to guess that most of them will handle this just fine.

If it's anything like the '48 Ford custom kit. the Grease car will be worth getting even if you don't care about Grease or '48 Fords. You're still going to get a box of nicely moulded vintage chassis parts you can use on other projects. Its the closest we'll probably ever get to a traditional hot rod parts pack. -

About that tradition thing. When the Stingray made it's debut it was cutting edge technology married to a body that looked like no Corvette before, or like any sports car built by anyone else. There were a few nods to '30s sports cars, but the overall effect was right out of the future. Imagine if people said, "We can't have this! What about tradition? It needs to be like the old Corvette!!" Seeing how GM has been rehashing the C3 for about half a century now, maybe it's okay to give tradition a little rest.

So many to choose from, it would have to be the Lamborghini Espada. Performance, utility, and concept car looks, all in one drop dead gorgeous package. -

Revell '29 Roadster, Late '50s Style

I wanted a more period correct looking rear end, so I lopped off the back of the frame, and replaced it with a crossmember from an AMT Model A frame. The rear spring is from a Revell '29 pickup, and the quickchange center section is from the parts bin. I've attached the new axle to the frame like the old one to make it easier to measure out all the linkages and mounting points, and to let me make scale looking hardware without having to worry if it will actually support anything. It's tight, but the engine fits. Revell's '29 Roadster supplied the carbs. I made a new set of pulleys for the blower, but I am thinking I should invest in one of those Molotow pens. As for paint, I'm thinking a dark metallic red like the Tommy Ivo T for the body, and the same colour for the frame and running gear, but I'm also pondering doing the frame in gold to match the engine, or even white.
