  1. There have been some pretty wild concepts over the years, but production Ferraris tend to be very much of the time they're built. If you compare them to contemporaries like Jaguar, Lamborghini, and Corvettes, maybe even a little behind the times, but they were still looked good. Classics like the GTO were not shaped by fashion, but by aerodynamics. Unique is overrated. There are any number of awkward, contrived designs out there striving to be unique. Azteks were unique. The SP1 is an elegant, even classic design whose merits have little to do with the whims of fashion. If this is the trend for future car design, I welcome it with open arms. The real ones are a little out of my reach, but I could get behind a model kit of this, or the SP2 version.
  2. It does look pretty slick from the top. Almost like a D-type Jaguar, but with a little Corvette thrown in.
  3. I've mentioned this before , the folks at Revell are big boys and girls, and probably aren't going to close their doors because of a few critical words on the internet. The opinions that really matter will be the ones who put their money where their mouths are.
  4. Fenando Pinto has what looks to be a fairly nice resin kit if you don't mind spending the cash, but I wouldn't mind seeing a decent Vanwall kit for a reasonable price. https://picclick.com/VANWALL-F1-1958-Stirling-Moss-world-champion-makes-112764223651.html
  5. Possibly, but what I see so far looks pretty good.
  6. So maybe a fifth the price for what's probably a better kit, and I don't have to correct anyone's mistakes? Yeah, I don't need to relive my childhood that badly.
  7. Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.
  8. And of course all those aircraft modelers who want period vehicles to go with their 1/48 aircraft.
  9. The MPC '28 Lincoln and '32 Imperial kits. Lots of tiny parts that don't quite fit, especially in the reissues, they can be a journey into madness, but the results are worth the pain.
  10. I picked up the Stutz long ago. and missed out on the rest. I know some of Renwal's 1/48 classic kits were reissued by Revell, and I wouldn't mind seeing those come back. On the subject of old kits, does anyone know if the moulds for the ex-Best Aurora indy cars survived? Those would seem to be a good fit for Atlantis.
  11. I'd buy them too, and they might even be a good fit with Atlantis' scifi and what-if kits, but it's my understanding that the moulds are long gone. Not that I'd be terribly upset if I were proven wrong.
  12. And it looks like a Greased Lightning '48 Ford is going to be one of Revell's new releases. Remember this the next time someone starts moaning when the talk turns to kits we'd like to see.
  13. So it sounds like they're back in business exactly when they said they were. This is very good news.
  14. They seem to lean toward the really old and really simple so, as far as the auto related kits go, probably the Highway Pioneers, and the dream cars ( the Futura and the Club de Mer). For the Aurora kits, their 1/16 scale brass era kits. For Monogram, their Indy roadster and vintage drag kits might be a good fit with the Smer Grand Prix kits they already have. Maybe some of the older Starbird customs like the Futurista?
  15. As for the price of car kits vs. anything else, there is no shortage of high dollar car kits if that's the way you want to go. The model car hobby also has a large number of people who don't like to build box stock. $30 US for a kit may not seem like much for some, but when you're making some hot rod or custom that requires parts from 3-4 different kits, that's going to get expensive pretty quickly.
  16. First off, it looks like a pretty nice kit, and considering we had been worried whether we we would ever see a Revell kit again, it's hard to spin this as anything but good news. But does anyone really expect the execs a Revell to go, "Right, we're shutting down 'cuz these guys are being mean!"? These are big boys and girls, and there's a lot more at stake than some hurt feelings.
  17. True race car livery is livery that happens to be on a true race car. I love those old racers too, but you have to admit, the colour schemes have gotten a lot more interesting over the years.
  18. I could go for that. MCG already has all the scripts, but all you'd need is a front end and a dash.
  19. It's my understanding that the XR-6 tooling is just gone, and they'd have to recreate it from scratch. Obviously, the numbers would have to work, but personally, I'd buy kits of the real show cars over things like the Depth Charger.
  20. Airfix also did their 1/32 Bentley in green, as did Heller with their 1/24 Bentley. Monogram also released their Rolls-Royce Phantom II Henley Roadster in green.
  21. There were a few rotary powered bikes and cars, like this 1906 Adams Farwell:
  22. No, that exactly how a rotary engine works. The crankshaft is stationary, and the engine rotates. It was a popular setup for aircraft engines in WW I.
  23. Revell's '48 is another good one, Some very nice custom parts, and the chassis is a great source of parts for an old school hot rod.
