  1. well from what i can see you can use the custom suspension with discs and keep the same ride height as stock. for the rear just use the stock suspension the stock and custom rear axle are almost identical except for the disc brakes. as for the front end use the stock upper A arms instead of the lowered ones. the only downside is you cannot use the stock wheels/tires on the custom suspension. the custom set up uses metal pins like in the current kits like the C6 vette and the SSR truck/roadster.
  2. i did not do the 56 nomad or del ray but i am pretty sure those kits are based on the 55's tooling. so i am pretty sure they are the same parts from those kits transplanted into the 55. which is not a bad thing, as i like the idea of having 4 wheel disc brakes a cool thing .
  3. i am gonna duplicate this color scheme using the combined 64/04 interior. is there a paint that will duplicate the red leather in that pic. i have seen the color up close it is very close to the color of red bricks. I am gonna paint the seats, parts of the door and side panels and the both the boot and the up top this color. any info would be most helpful.
  4. sorry, i did this review at my friends house, i got home and took some pics. if you want any special type of picture or pictures, let me know. the box art kit contents the most excellent decal sheet the instruction booklet there ya go guys
  5. I just picked up this kit from my local hobby store today and i have only had one version of the 55 and that was the original issue (before the pace car one came out). First of all I LOVE this kit, lots of parts The hard top body looks good from what I can tell, with the separate chrome trim, door handles, hood ornament, wipers, and mirror. Interior is pretty much like the original drop top release except for it has a rear tray behind the rear seat. The chassis is pretty sweet, it gives you the option of stock ride height or lowered with two sets of rear axles and front cross member both with disc brakes and calipers that will be visible through the custom wheels. The engine is also like the previous release but it gives you the option of different custom chrome 2 piece air cleaner and chrome valve covers. Wheels and tires, you have a choice of the stock wheels with whitewall inserts and stock wheel covers and the optional custom rims on low profile tires. Decals are very nice, you get all the decals you need for a stock Bel Air, from the scripts on the body, to 3 styles of gauges (stock, custom, and white face custom) and stock black or white 'bel air' decal for the other end of the dash. Also you get all the under hood decals as well. you also get 2 sets of plates 2 50s style plates, 2 'heartbeat of america' plates, and 2 current plates that say FIFTY 5 from Illinois. on top of those decals you also get the decals for the stock wheel covers that have have a ring of the 'bowtie' logos that surround the center of the wheel cover and 'firestone' markings for the whitewall to make up for the lack of lettering on the sidewalls. for the custom option you get the flames, scripts in gold, skinny 'goldwall' stripes for the tires. And there are nice little options in this kit, like optional fender skirts for the body, and the drive in restaurant tray with individual (separate by the way ) items for the tray. I cannot wait to build this kit in the near future, I cannot decide if i will build it stock or custom I HIGHLY recommend this kit for anybody who is a fan of the 55-57 chevy coupes.
  6. When AMT first issued the kits back in 89 (my god has it been that long? thing's have certainly changed around here. i remember when there was AMT models as far as the eye could see ), there was a resin conversion kit that turned the part II car into a stock Delorean. it came with the body shell, rear panel cover, rear side 'glass' and a stock dashboard. the AMT kit provided the rest. the only downside is it used the time machine's chassis which has the stuff for the hover conversion . I am a huge Delorean fan, along with the 4 model kits i have, i also have 3 1/24 or 1/25 scale diecast models of the cars from all 3 movies (part III car only had the 50s wheels) which have opening gull wing doors. they are made by a company called Welly, and are very nice and have the Delorean scripts on the back bumper, and the 'DMC' logo on the grille (something the polar lights car is missing due to not having the rights to the 'Delorean' name ). I highly recommend them you can usually get them on ebay cheap, i paid like 20 bucks for all 3 with shipping, and they do make a STOCK Delorean as well . EDIT: more info, reviews and pictures of the Welly car can be found HERE!
  7. here is a minor update, i took some test shots of the newer car's stuff on or in the older car. a nice clean stock 1964 GTO drop top and here is the same car with a set of polished 17x8" wheels and tires from a 2004 GTO . I will begin taking the car back apart enough to do a test fit of the LS2 from the 04 car in the 64 car's engine bay. pictures will be up as soon as i can .
  8. i kinda like the cavalier, i did NOT know they made a model of it
  9. I am sure he just converted the time machine into stock. it is not really THAT hard just sand down the 'cables' that ran along the bottom sides between the wheel wells. then fill in the mounting holes on the body for the coils. and then make a new rear engine cover for the back. as for the interior, that may be a little tough cause of the 'time circuit control panel' .
  10. true story in part I when marty is being chased by biff and his gang on the home made skateboard you see that his car switches from a 46 to a 48 . on a 46 ford the turn signals are on the hood on both sides of the hood ornament. on a 48 they are bigger, circular and are mounted below the headlights. so in some shots if you see the signals change you know there were 2 different cars in that scene. I originally planed on using the EXCELLENT Pro Modeler 48 ford kit and modify it into a 46 but i am not THAT good. so i found a nice mint testors 48 ford on ebay and i like that it has things like opening doors and stuff. I do not have photos of my Deloreans as i did not have a way to put my pictures on my computer and the photos were lost years ago. I have NOT yet built any of the 3 i have now or the polar lights car. if you ever want any tips on future delorean models hit me up via PM or Email or one of the I M programs i use, they should be in my profile . As Doc would say, "The way I see it, if your gonna build a time machine out of a car, why not do it with some style!"
  11. I picked up one of the 04 GTO kits from big lots for 5 bucks and i was just curious to see how well some of the parts will work in the 64 version. I did a test fit of the rims tires on the 64 drop top and they look good. I have decided to get another 04 kit and use as much of the 04 drivetrain in the 64. i am also gonna use the front and possibly the rear seats from it in the drop top too. i was thinking of painting the car in a 04 up factory color to finish it off. I will show some pictures of the test shots later for you guys. I have some other things on my plate, so i do not know when i will concentrate on it yet .

very nice, i like the shaved door handles
  13. I agree with Chris (there is a scary thought , just kidding Chris ), I also like the 04-06 'goat'. I feel it was very faithful to the original concept of a ordinary looking car with one of the biggest engines GM produced under the hood . In fact one of my future projects is something I call Project: Old Goat, New Goat. I am taking a 64 GTO drop top and replacing all the running gear and some of the interior from the 04 car and painting it in a color scheme that matches the 04 car (my madness has NO limit ).
  14. cody i have those same kits in my collection along with the very nice snap kit from polar lights. the only thing i would suggest is the lower cladding below the door line on the 1/1 cars was a satin or semi gloss black, ditto for the strip that ran along the side and cut through the door. on the 1/1 cars the front and rear fascias were a darker silver color, I used STEEL for my fascias. the 'stock' delorean is pretty darn slick. i remember when the original issue of the single kit which was actually from a japan company repackaged with english instructions for us. I like how the part II car has a folding wheel mechanism that is very close to the real time machines (on the real car they pushed away from the body and then rotated down, just like the model kit). In japan they offered a 4th version called the part III version B. it was the same as the one with the train wheels but it had the 50s wheels and a little figure of Marty in his cowboy outfit in the pose from the movie poster that had to be glued and painted. it is good to see one of my all time favorite movie and tv car on this site (check my avatar ). I also have an old Testors 48 ford drop top that has the parts that let you build it as 47 or a 46. I am doing mine as a 46 same year as Biff's .
  15. if you want to make the forever wheels look semi decent do what did. de chrome them then use a sharpie marker pen to draw in the 'grooves' and paint the center recess flat white and ad the bat decal to that recess. when i did mine i mixed blue paint with thinner for a wash. when i do another one, i am gonna go with tamiya clear blue which i have left over from my 2 police car projects .
  16. I just realized that that GT-H car has the same rims as the 'base' GT coupe and are an option on the base V6 cars. I may just use the rims/tires from that kit on my bullitt project. i do not mind holding back on that project as i have others that can take it's place while i am waiting on the GT-H kit .
  17. THAT is the reason why i don't use the attachment feature. i prefer hosting my pics one of the sites that way they are always online an i can easily copy/paste the link to any individual pictures to show to friends or on different forums as well.
  18. another option is to get a image hosting account some are free, some cost money but are still cheap. the free ones are: www.imageshack.us allow pictures, animated gifs, and up to 1.5 meg per image, and will give you links to make big pictures appear small in the forum, we would click on it to see the full size version. www.imagevenue.com same features as imageshack and it gives you the option to upload more than 1 picture at a time. ones that cost money: www.photobucket.com basically free, but has limited bandwidth, can post MUCH larger than 1.5 meg pictures and gifs. the unlimited version is 20 bucks a year which is worth it. www.fotki.com/us also like photobucket gives you more options, not sure what the costs are over the free. I use imageshack and photobucket the most. another good free option is www.tinypic.com i hope this helps .
  19. but did they not have a 77 trans am 3 in 1 kit (stock, custom, drag)? I have that kit, and it goes together well and looks very nice . if they do not still have the 3 in 1 kit in the current line up, i wouldn't see why they would not re issue it as plastic.
  20. i hope the GT500 and the GT-H are based on the excellent 2006 mustang tooling. Dave, have you ever used Keith's decals before? I am planning on getting a set of black stripes for the AMT 2006 Camaro kit to make it into a Bumblebee .
  21. mine only had the polar lights/AMT GTO, a AMT 69 cuda, and a nova/chevy II based dragster in vintage MPC packaging. all were 5 bucks. i snagged the GTO
  22. I am defiantly getting the GT500 and the sexy Audi R8 so i can do a model of THIS Tony Stark's car from next years IRON MAN
  23. how about rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab?
  24. i am not a fan of the 348, but i DO like the 355 which only shared the tops of the front fenders and doors (minus the 'grates' with the 348). i do look forward seeing what you do to this car.
  25. i did a search of ebay and i found only 2 99-04 mustangs in scale. one was a pimped out convertable with large diameter rims on skinny tires from JADA toys it was a 2002. the other i found would probably be the best thing you will find. a 1/18 scale 2004 GT diecast from auto art. 2004 Mustang GT from auto art the best thing about diecast is you can easily remove the body and repaint it, heck you can use factory paint cause it is metal . It looks identical to this one, just the color of the paint is different. 2004 Mustang GT I hope that helps a little bit, i know it is diecast, but hey, what can you do if they do not make a model of THAT generation of mustang ?
