Mack DM600 yard goat
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Here is the last work for this weekend. I started with the interior. The door panels were reworked and some details added. The steering parts were put together and fixed in place. I hope to get some time and paint it. And one from the front tire looks quite used. By the way the next step will be the engine. Must a DD have this strange color? This green-blue or blue-green I am not sure what it is. Looking through some pictures in the internet a DD can be green red silver blue and so on… What would be an accurate paint for ? So long Arnd -
Mack DM600 yard goat
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Jarda this is a quite interesting question. I am not sure but perhaps I misunderstood the real meaning of the word “yard goat”. In my opinion it is an old truck used in a yard for moving around trailers which are loaded, unloaded or repaired. That will mean that the truck is used nearly every day with a lot of trailers and this means a lot of grease came on to the fifth wheel. -

Peterbilt 352 Wrecker
Arnd replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hey Superepete. Grate build on this. All this grade work on the details makes the hole think really realistic. Are you going to rework the rivets on the part were you glued the cab parts together. By the way you mentioned the ihc. Is this not a 4200 because of the short hood? I would be interesting to know what type of engine and rear suspension it had? And did it had a strait or droped frame? So long Arnd -
Nice work on this. Hey mackd what type of suspension do you think woul be more accurate? Just for interrest.

Question on IHC S-Series trucks
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hakan I think yo.u are right with the rear suspention, I hoped to build somethig a bit different with the air ride but it is like it is. By the way what do you thik is trhe wheelbase of this truck? Is it something about 134 or smaller? And what is normaly for a single axel truck, the distance between the back of the cab and the middle of the fifth whell? -

Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi all Here some more shots of my Mack. I changed the tires with some from AMT for a test, I am not really happy with them but let see how it come together. Here some shots from the cab being painted: I wait some hours for drying and then came the last paint part: some spots all over with flat clear varnish and on both doors I have to make some spots with light gray to simulate the repainted or covered ex company name. Question on IHC S-Series trucks
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Gordon Thanks for the fast answer. That with the ABF lot in your neighborhood sound grate. If it is not too much work and time and not a too big effort for you it would be grate if you could take some detail shots of that truck. The rear suspension and the engine are my big problems. Thanks a lot for your help and efforts. The idea with doubles is grate, but in the picture I have, the truck is hooked up to a trailer with three axels. I suppose that it must be a high powered tractor for high weight. So long Arnd -
Hallo guys As my Mack is ready for the paint and I have to wait until the parts dry well I picked up an old project that I started some years ago. I stared to collect the parts and more information on that thing. All my information are not 100%. I have only two shots of such a truck. I now that it should be an International S-Serie F-2657 build around 1986. The engine is called Cummins 300. Now my questions up to you, perhaps you know more about this truck and can answer my questions. Well here we go: What means Cummins 300? Is this a Cummins NTC? What type of rear axel does this truck have? Leaf springs or air? For a mid 80es truck would be an air rear suspension normal or? Do you know same more companies which used such trucks (single axel truck)? This is the truck I am talking about. Thanks for your efforts. So long Arnd

Mack DM600 yard goat
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hallo all Hey Tim thanks a lot for this advice, now I understand a bit more about Mack trucks and how the different types were used. Hey Alain because of which reason do you think that this tires are not right for the truck? I decided to use them because they fit on 20 inch rims and they are bigger then the one from AMT. The tires from AMT look too small to me. I started with the paint. First coat is revels rust brown and then blue for the frame and hood. And orange for the cab and the rims. After some days of drying I will start with the work fo a used look for this truck with rust, oil and dirt. So long Arnd -
Italeri Freightliner FLD-120?
Arnd replied to Dave Toups's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hallo that is true. Italeir has only one Frame type for US trucks. The frightline has some aspecial parts to make the front axel beeing a set back axel. I am not 100 % sure but I think only the Frightliner kit has this parts. So it dependes on what you are going to build if the other kits are good enought for you. so Long Arnd -

Mack DM600 yard goat
Arnd replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hallo all I had some time and worked again on the Mack. The brake system is ready and plumbed. The air tanks, the valves, air dryer and brake chambers are on the right place. The air brake valves were reworked and cast in resin. Like this it is easier to use them on different trucks. The electrical wires are on the right place. I worked out the hydraulic system with the tank and switch unit for the fifth wheel cylinder. On the right side the battery boxes are placed instead of the fuel tank. The front shock absorber, the rear lights, the brackets for the rear mud flaps and many many more little details were added. -

Arnd replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment

Hallo Terry Here an impression of my one By the way does your book give any information on the different BBCs of this trucks and about the different engines which were used? So long Arnd
-
Hallo guys I picked up an older project that I never finished like I want to. It is based on the AMT Diamond Reo kit.I tried to find information with the help of the internet, what is the right type for the truck is but I am not sure. So I hope that you guys can give me some help on that problem. It will be a tandem axel, day cab truck, with a short nose and 90inch BBC. Now the questions: When came the hood in use, which is in the AMT kit? What about the different front grills like in the picture optional or depending on year it was build? What about the model with single round heat lights optional? So long Arnd
