Mack DM800 'Conforti'
Superpeterbilt replied to Hessel Hemstra's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very cool project. I have many pictures of the real truck. Those wheels look great. Are you having the rear wheels made as well? Keep up the good work -

Yes, thats always stuck out to me that it was a different truck. The wrecked truck didnt have an engine in it. How he flips the truck over is very Hollywood(impossible), but it still makes a good watch. Its just like the end of White Line Fever they used a truck with sprayed silver steel 5 hole buds instead of the Alcoas(or they just changed the wheels). -

Revenge on the Highway

It was originally a made for TV movie in the 80's. You can get it on dvd under the title silent thunder on amazon. The truck chase at the end is epic. That KW bit the dust hard at the hands of a Peterbilt 377. To give a brief rundown, a rogue trucker(who makes the driver in Duel look like an altar boy) runs over a young man changin a tire on the side of the road. The dead man is the son of a trucker who gets frustrated with the police and takes the matter into his own hands. After a bunch of digging he finds out the description of the truck and where it hauls out of. He goes to the trucking yard and shakes down the boss and finds out where the driver hangs out. He goes to the bar and is greeted by an angry mob of truckers(he made a lot of enemies with the dirty truckers during his hunt). He finds the trucker, gets in a fight, the trucker runs to the rig and starts off, Claude(Stacy Keech) hops in his Pete and the chase ensues. -

Thanks a lot guys. I got a little further along on some bodywork. I used 2 halves of the transformers from the lowboy kit to make the rear fenders. I have to say, these things have come in handy. If you look a the front fenders on the Pete drag truck, they are also made from these. This is a big step with tying in the rear end with the stinger body. Lots of plastic fab to go

Modelhaus makes the Dodge D100 cabs that be used for this -
As I said in my original post, If you need the parts and it justifies the cost then Im not talking about you. Let me clarify, its not a rare kit, its not a hard to find kit, its not worth what they are trying to charge. This is just another example of these sellers trying to drive the price of a kit up. I realize that I dont have to buy it. I wouldnt buy the snap kit anyway. Its a snap kit. I figured I was allowed to point out something that I feel is rediculous. I know the cool guys like to troll around and say things like " just ignore it" "dont buy it". FYI, this is just a discussion. I posted this in the TRUCK STOP because it a TRUCK topic. If you dont know anything about the truck kits, then you dont know what Im talking about and your opinion is irrelevant.

I know this topic has been brought up before in the off topic section about people parting out kits on ebay and charging rediculous prices per sprue. I say, to each his own, theres a sucker born every minute( if you desperately need the parts and it justifies the price thats different). What I want to rant about, is I just saw someone parting out a Pete snap kit with just the battery boxes listed for $9.99, the fuel tanks listed for $9.99, and just the cab listed for $12.00. To part out a kit that is only worth about $15.00 at best to start off with is just insane. I guess if they get a fish on the line then its fair game but, cmon guys! Sorry, I just had to get that out.

Any other musicians in the house?
Superpeterbilt replied to atomicholiday's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Thats a shame. Its a story all too common. I know a lot of people who were told they couldnt do it for one one reason or another. People love to discourage. Im sure someone told Jeff Healey that he would never be any good because he was blind. Im glad he didnt listen. Just remember, the drummer from Def Leppard only gots one arm, and Frank Beard plays in ZZ Top even though he doesnt have a beard. Limitations are only in the mind. -

They tried to pull that BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH with me when I was a kid. I promptly quit the lessons, turned the right handed guitar upside down, and taught myself. Its a dam shame that they do that to people. My boss is a victim of that, and it has greatly limited his playing ability. Availability of left handed instruments is no excuse. I have 37 guitars, 3 basses, a mandolin, a banjo, organ, and harmonicas. Only about 10 of my guitars are actually lefty, the others are upside down restrung. I would really like to know where these idiot guitar teachers and guitar store guys are indoctrinated to convert lefties. Just stock more left handed guitars and stuff it!!! Its hard enough with no left handed can openers, scissors, standard transmissions, refrigerators, slot machines, or cigarettes. -
