what is strange to me is that that corvette engine seems to have the same exhaust headers (eg: mooneyes staggered exhaust tips) as the 283 which was the basis for the mooneyes engine (potvin front mounted blower for one giveaway). in fact it kinda looks like either a lot of the parts were replicated between the two but the sprue was reconstructed with new parts. look at the fan for instance: four blade in one and five (or six? looks kinda funny) in the other. and of course different induction system. but same block parts, same transmission, same headers and same a lot of other parts. don't think I have ever seen that corvette motor parts pack before...along with the buick nailhead, lost in the mists of time. the motorcycles in their various incarnations are bringing 50 to 100 on ebay with regularity...what is holding up the reissue besides some imagined "oh won't sell" when all indicators seem to show otherwise? jb

Can anyone identify this vehicle?
jbwelda replied to Shardik's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know but I bet you have a hell of a time getting that big tire up to speed. probably a chain sprocket the size of the wheel. jb -
Patenting a stolen design?!
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yep that's what they said about the Japanese too. how did that one turn out? and using Faux news as a source is really pushing it. just like how can you tell when a lawyer is lying?...same with the fo fo news. they rarely get it right or complete and are not shy of totally pushing an agenda. kind of like right here. jb -
so are these kits common in Germany or did you just build up a stockpile of them? I don't believe I have ever seen one, but I will have to look for them now. really beautiful builds there Karsten and the competition car is going to be great! jb

That does seem kinda dumb. Obviously done by a remote art department and not the automotive people...or something. Totally dumb. jb

>In the case of the Omni GLH/GLHS, the only Toyotas or Datsun/Nissan that they wouldn't eat alive would have been the Supras and >300zx, and even then, it would have been a close fight and even the then current Ponycars weren't safe from the GLHS. but of course you are talking about in a straight line...come to even a slight corner and there again is no comparison. those Omni's wallowed around a corner like an overladen barge caught in a current. jb

Back to the models, those are all excellent. whats with the 240z (or might be variant) and especially what is that silver one in the back of the first photo? Another Toyota? jb

both excellent but I really really love that blue one. beautiful patina! jb

what has that HHR got to recommend it really? throwback looks? cause I know those things pretty nearly cannot get out of their own way and I am pretty sure the fuel mileage doesn't compensate for the lack of pep. And it sure doesn't have rearward visibility on its side. I do kinda like the looks but if that's all its got...loser. jb

Rusty Ferrari Barn Find
jbwelda replied to 1930fordpickup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think most of that will probably rub out. edit to catch up...yeah I do remember the "Dino" thing but this one is obviously badged in several places as a Ferrari. All aftermarket? jb -
I love these Silvias, I have a 240sx in real life so naturally I have an interest in them. nice to see insides of this "super detail" kit. does it have engine detail, looks like the hood area is open? I have a bunch of these in different variants on the shelf and have built a couple with full body kits. they basically didn't really fit real well and I had to do a good amount of body work to get them to look right. of course in real life they sometimes don't fit too well either so in that it was accurate. I actually molded in and contoured all the body kit to look nice in a kustom kar kinda way. jb

this is so kool...and if you are not totally set on using that stock looking engine, you might think about putting an Allison engine in instead, from the AMT parts pack that's been reissued a number of times. might give it more of a hot rod feel. it is 1/25 though so it might appear a bit small, especially next to that huge Roller mill! jb

Janis Joplin's Porsche 356C and Janis figure...
jbwelda replied to Brizio's topic in WIP: Model Cars
wow this sure took a sharp left into the Twilight Zone! I love it and if Janis was here to see it she would love it too I betcha! Saw her once going up the Marin side of Waldo Grade approach to the Golden Gate bridge, me and a buddy of mine in my 54 MGTF. she waved and smiled at us as she passed us going up the hill. Fun times. jb -
really nice lines to that car and incredible looking engine compartment, that paint is super, maybe Tamiya mica blue with a clear blue overcoat? and some polishing? jb

that's how it is with me too: I am always 2$ short of free shipping! so of course I always find something else I "need" to get it, and then that item is basically free just like you say. I would like to know where to get it for 25$ shipped...that's the kind of price I have been waiting for. jb

Kits you have, that you will never build
jbwelda replied to BLOODBANE's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a whole bunch of kits I will never build, though I might get merciless about stealing parts from them if need be. Most of them I picked up cheap, probably very cheap, or I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. case in point is something I found and used just the other day: some Fujimi Honda Oddessy big old mom van that I have absolutely zero interest in, talk about a boring car! but the thing is, it comes with two Thule top-of-car carriers, plus a super kool Trek 8000 bicycle, with photo etch spokes! I think I remember paying maybe 8$ for this at the NNL swap meet one year. and there are plenty more too, Toyota 800 sports sedans (love em but have already built two), Messerschmidt, plus the usual 32 fords, fat fendered chebys, hot rod variations, all kinds of kits ive collected up over the years. it pays to keep an eye on ebay, still some real bargains out there if you watch. and of course that adds to the unbuilt pile too! edit to add: >Why not build them? for me, the issue is time. I already have as many actual projects going as I can handle plus its just not feasible to build them all. lots of them are of marginal interest to me, but its nice to have them on hand if only for some possible kool parts, but also collector disease packratism to some extent too. jb -
Custom Dodge Challenger "Superbird"
jbwelda replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
kool paint, what do you figure the MPG for that thing are? YMMV of course. jb -
I've had my eye out for one on ebay for a reasonable price when shipping is factored in, they all seem to run around 50US$ but I think they will come down at some point. I think they should release a Raid version which would just basically mean including some rally parts and decals. I totally love these cars. jb

Hi Bob, when was the last time you were in oh say Wal-Mart? It wouldn't be killing anything if people weren't buying. jb

Decorative model car wall art

great idea and something to do with those infinite NASCARs. I have a bunch of second dinky, corgi, matchbox etc that would look great in a window box like that. jb -
Too many projects going on.
jbwelda replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I generally have 2 or 3 long term (> 1 year anticipated) and then 1, 2 or 3 short or shorter term projects going or lined up. sometimes its overwhelming but then I tend to finish up a few at once so that is pretty satisifying. I don't not finish projects, if I am serious enough to start something, I stick with it in almost all cases, I cannot really recall anything that I gave up on in the past 10 years, even though some stayed on back burners for a long while. jb
