  3. the thing is, I doubt that one you saw actually sold for 150, maybe that's what the owner wanted. but a search of completed auctions will show a more true value...around 50$. these cars were issued in many many reissues down through the years and they all (Lindberg) have the same parts pretty much. some of those parts are pretty nice though: for instance the slicks look a whole lot better than the Big T etc slicks did. jb

  9. thanks for all your comments folks. to address a couple questions: the tyres came with the Tamiya race car kit so perhaps they are a bit larger...they are/were a very loose fit on the wheels but the wheels came with the conversion kit so I assumed maybe they were a bit small...but now that you mention it maybe the tyres are big. I think they look pretty appropriate for the car. my one main regret about the car is keeping that purple undercarriage and engine compartment. just looks goofy. wish I had picked a more neutral color like an olive drab or light green or something, but its ok as it is I guess. I am going to redo the taillamps, I cut some narrower bezels last night now I am going to polish and fill them and apply some bmf and see if they look better than the current attempt. thanks again for looking and any other comments suggestions jeers or heckling, bring em on! jb
  10. the thing is, those Cubes will be running years from now, unlike the bulk of the losers mentioned here even 5 years from their "birth". I think the Cube is one of the koolest vehicles around if only for the asymmetrical rear window. lower it down and there is no personnel carrier around that can rival it. but that's just me. my mom had a Citation and even my dad, life long Chevy man, told her to just junk it and he would buy her something decent, this was after a year of ownership, bought brand new. then he went out and bought himself a new buick roadmaster wagons, reputedly the biggest car ever mass produced. he had that until he passed away a decade later. talk about a loser car...the darn dashboard was literally deep enough to serve as a card table. and it had to get maybe 8mpg max. but he loved it. thing about these loser cars is they are a two edged sword: why did the model companies invest in tooling up such a loser car in the first place, but then what can you do with the model now that it is there. to me a funny car chevette, or a street gasser of comical proportions, seems appropriate. its just a model after all. jb

Couple things I could attend to still: have some tie downs for the front of the bonnet/hood I might want to add. Bonnet actually fits well its just a bit crooked in these pics. Taillights are just held on with white glue at the moment because I may make yet another pair and this time make them about one half the thickness of these...otherwise I think they look pretty good. you can see the ugly body repair under the left side of the windshield caused by grinding up under there to fit the dashboard. oh well I am calling it a rust repair.   16. A bachelor of science degree in HISTORY? That's not the way things generally work. Most "loser" cars are thought of that way for a reason, possible exception being the Corvair which was the victim of a political hatchet job that would have taken VW and Porsche along with it had they been American cars. Destined to be exiled to the ghetto of obscurity and in this case, for good reason. There will of course always be admirers, generally those who base their decisions on emotions...you can find yards full of Chevettes for instance within a 50 mile radius of any major city. That doesn't mean anyone other than those individuals would ever want a model of one. On the other hand one doesn't encounter grease covered driveways and irreplaceable parts when dealing with a mere model, so to me the choice is clear: if I MUST have one, it had best be a scale representation rather than the real thing taking up valuable real estate not to mention resources. its much easier to safely ignore sitting unassembled on the shelf rather than out in the driveway scaring off the neighbors (not always a bad thing though). jb

  19. yes well I personally think its (the airbrush phobia) is largely due to so many people having so many methods for spraying that it just gets confusing compared to grabbing a buzzcan. and particularly today when Tamiya paints (and nozzles) pretty much approach airbrush for a lot of features. but my point is more, here you claim to shoot at just under 2 lbs. two pounds. you do realize you can generate that much air pressure out of your own lungs and body? you don't need a compressor for that. that cannot be correct. must be more like 20 pounds as you mention someone else asked. but unless you correct that, it now becomes part of the "lore" that hey that guy got great results using 2 psi why shouldn't I? and then I go and ruin a body trying to spray at that low of pressure (if I were really naïve). and then I say the heck with this, give me a can. get what I mean? jb

  23. those look very kool. very finely detailed and looks like you polished the rim so the clear is really clear. I had a resin one, used it in a 51 Cheby, but was wondering, did any car actually come with a clear steering wheel? somehow I think maybe a 54 Corvette? those are very nice, where can one find them besides the cobra kit? jb

  25. thanks for all the comments, should be wrapping up the small stuff here pretty soon. skip, yes the hood thickness has something to do with it. and decking the head, as already mentioned somewhere back there, is a great idea. unfortunately I do not have the stomach for either at this point seeing as how the car is basically done. I looked at and considered thinning the hood with my dremel or at least relieving it in appropriate places, but instead I have managed to lower the profile of a nice stock valve cover and clip off the tips of the SUs which sat too high anyhow. that saved me the anxiety of dremelling away on the b side of the hood to clearance it, and also a nice cross hatch is molded into the underside of it which will be obliterated if I go at it with the dremel. you might notice back there in the thread somewhere I reported on burning through the body clearancing it for the dashboard, and that flaw remains, filled in from underneath with some red body putty that I basically just smoothed the upper surface of with my finger. so I think someone is telling me something about clearancing this body! as it turns out the SUs with velocity stacks look pretty nice in there and fit perfectly too, aside from the dashpot sticking up a bit too high. andy, one weber would have fit in there; the problem is the pair I had, which I think came from ScaleKraft, were pretty oversize and stuck up far too high but the real problem was getting them down between the exhaust header...impossible. all this stuff would have been fixable if noticed sooner, I pretty much just trusted these carbs were going to fit and as you know you have to put them on with the body already affixed to the chassis so by that point theres pretty much no other way out. always fun using resin bodies though, and always requires the builder to have the flexibility the body often lacks! jb
