Any idea how to "tint" windows
StevenGuthmiller replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you're looking for a "smoke" or black tint, Testors #2949 "Transparent Black Window Tint" works great! One of the few Testors spray paints that I really like. But be certain to get the #2949 lacquer. There is an enamel tint, but it doesn't work worth a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. I recently purchased a set of these transfers to try on my next project for the tint band. I'm hoping that they work well. It will save a lot of farting around with paint. Steve -

Even some enamels are too hot for bare plastic. You would basically have to stick with hobby enamels or acrylics to avoid problems, and personally, I have yet to find an acrylic that works well without a primer. Steve -
And we understand that you are saying no Bruce, but that's not the issue either. The controversy that has come up with this thread is not the fact that some of us will not purchase one of these models. I am also saying no for different reasons. The issue is that some people have chosen to berate Paul for how he chooses to sell HIS creations. You are correct, everything has worth, but who gets to decide that worth is perfectly reflected by auctioning them off to the highest bidder. Can you think of a more democratic way to determine worth? Steve

That may be depending on the paint you are using. You won't get away with this using lacquer paint. Steve -
For $10.00 a copy, I can't see any self respecting resin artist like Paul wasting his time going through this lengthy process to produce a premium product. I would never do it. There are a lot of resin casters out there, but there are few great ones. I doubt that you're going to convince many people that greed is even a small part of Paul's motivation. Paul let's the buyer decide what his wares are worth, whether that be $10.00 or $1,000.00, the consumer will decide. I can't understand why people think that is such a terrible thing. Steve

Jo-Han 62 Chrysler 300 hardtop
StevenGuthmiller replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The kit does have the "300 H" insignia on the trunk lid. The "Letter Car Series" started in 1956 and ended in 1965. This include the 300 H in 1962. Technically the '55 could be called a letter car, but I consider it not to be as it was referred to as the C-300. The 300 C appeared in 1957. In my opinion, the "letter series" started in 1956 with the 300 B, and ended in 1965 with the 300 L. Chrysler skipped the "I" for some odd reason. Steve -

If the deal falls through and you are still looking for one, give me a holler. I might not be able to offer you a complete kit, but I have a considerable number of parts for the Johan '62 Chrysler including good bodies and USA Oldies interiors as well as most of the other necessary parts. Lets just say that the only part that I might not be able to let go is my last good grille. I have a good front bumper and grille surround, but the cross bar and emblem are missing. Just food for thought. Steve -

I have to agree. At some point, age catches up with all of us and we need a quieter, less physical hobby. I wouldn't want to think about starting from scratch again. Steve -

I'm not an expert on what represented a letter car either. I know that the interior in the USA Oldies kit was actually from a '65 300 promo and the wheel covers were never correct for a 300. As far as I know, there is nothing else in the Johan kit that would make me think that it is not a letter car. My convertible had the original '62 interior and I used the custom wheels from the AMT '58 Impala kit, which strangely enough are fair representations of '62 300 wheel covers. Steve -

The "Long Ram" manifold came as a custom option on every Johan Chrysler 300 annual kit produced all the way up to and including 1968. Of course the '62 USA Oldies kit did not, but coincidentally, the inline dual quad was correct for '62 anyway. The Long Ram intake went away after 1961, made a return in '63 and '64 and then disappeared after that. I researched and found that there were no '62 Chrysler 300s ever recorded to have been equipped with the long ram intake, although it seems that it was available in '62. So I decided that my '62 vert would be that "unicorn". My manifold came with the model. Steve -

Ah, but then you need to be aware that there are no recorded examples of a '62 Chrysler 300 ever being built with the cross ram intake. I researched this fairly extensively when I built my convertible........But it still got one anyway! Steve -

Absolutely! Under no circumstance would I let the incorrect interior stop me from building it. I have 2 or 3 of the USA Oldies '62 300s. and I won't let it stop me. Although it might be a fun challenge to try to basically scratch build one. The '62 300 interior is not particularly fancy. Just basic pleated seats and fairly simple door panels. Steve -

Correct. If you're worried about correcting the interior, you will be starting from scratch, except for the dash and steering wheel. Only the original issue versions of this kit had the correct '62 interior. I built the original issue convertible version with the correct interior some time back. They are still typical Johan, but at least they are the right configuration. Steve -
Testors "Wet Look" clear takes a bit longer to cure than something like Duplicolor, but not much. Personally, I would give it a week. Not sure why you had the issue that you had. Normally it will lay down pretty well. I used to use it often but gave up on it a few years ago because I started having cracking issues with it. Steve

What Did You Have for Dinner?
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Not meaning to gross anyone out, but I grew up with these, and to this day, they're still one of my favorite comfort foods. Creamed chicken liver on toast. Kind of "sh*t on a shingle" with innards. But you would be surprised at how rich and sweet this is, with only 4 ingredients. Butter, onion, chicken livers and cream. ( I guess you could include salt, pepper and toast in that count) Of course, I can only make this when the wife isn't around! Steve -
