  1. Had to. Some people will drink anything! I've seen empties in antiques shops, so somebody must have. Either that or they just poured it on the ground. Steve
  2. Are there any "serious Palmer model builders"? Steve
  3. I'm perfectly calm Steve. I just think it's fun to have a discussion occasionally that might be a little controversial. I'm not disrespecting anybody & I'm not screaming obscenities, so telling me to calm down won't help keep the discussion civil. As far as the target audience goes, I can understand oddball customs & super hero vehicles being targeted towards kids, but do you really think that any twelve year old gave a rip about who was president in 1977, or who his brother was? I've seen very few of the funny car kits, so I can't really say how well they did, but I do remember every sale table being stacked to the rafters with the Billy Carter pickups. They couldn't give them away. This smells more to me like an attempt to sell to an entirely different segment of the public. The collectors who never intended to build them, but just to stack them up in their boxes until they became valuable down the line. Seems that it didn't work very well though. You can pick up one of the Billy Carter trucks today for not much more than the cost of a new modern kit. All of that being said, I'll leave it alone now. I don't want to get anybody too worked up, so I'll just let it be. Steve
  4. It's not a big deal Jesse. I was just pointing out how the kit companies would take the time to produce a dopey kit like this knowing that it was not going t make them any money while ignoring subjects that might. I know, it's a little difficult to compare manufacturing practices today with those in the late 70s, but it's the same kind of thing that just drives us all nuts today. Trying to get us to purchase the same kits over & over again in new packaging & possibly a couple of added parts, & to top it all off, producing such a waste of good plastic when they could be coming up with some variations that might be worth buying. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, but this forum is supposed to be intended to be a place for voicing opinions about the hobby. Steve
  5. I didn't mean them to be political. The last half of my original post was tongue in cheek. I'm sure that everybody is correct. It was just an attempt to capitalize on an existing tool by adding a few goof ball parts & making a few extra bucks. Steve
  6. It's not about politics Scott. It's about what kits will sell & which won't. All we hear these days when discussing what new kits we would like to see is how they have to be a subject which will make money, which seems to be why we see nothing but Camaros & early Fords. I guess back then, there was no consideration as to whether or not a kit will be successful. Steve
  7. I get it Ron. The point is that I can't believe that AMT would take the time & waste the money on a kit that was likely going nowhere. As I said, boy has the hobby changed. Steve
  8. Whether they were meant to mock him or not, I can't believe that anybody thought they would sell. My, how the modeling hobby has changed! Today, we can't get a manufacturer to produce the kits that we want, yet back then they were making trash like this. Steve
  9. I always kind of wondered what egg headed kit designer decided that kits modeled after one of the worst presidents in the history of the country, and his hay seed brother, was a good idea. I would imagine that they are collectors items today, but I personally wouldn't give a plug nickel for one of them. Evidently, nobody ever considered a Ronald Reagan pickup truck & horse trailer or a Richard Nixon gasser. I wonder why? Do you think it could have been political? Steve
  10. I'll take the chrome. One of the things that I hate more than anything about modern cars is the whole "monotone" thing that, as far as I'm concerned, has been taken to extremes. Then we all sit and wonder why the cars today all look the same. Like colorless jelly beans! Steve
  11. The bottom ones look like the ones from the '62 Monterey kit. Steve
  12. Plan on getting out your check book & riding out a big fat one guys! I would be very surprised if it sells for less than $150.00. The only thing that might hold it back is the broken vent post & some of the assembly. As far as the "Funny Car" question goes, I think MPC had this option in quite a few kits back then. As you can tell from these photos, the '67 hardtop kit had the funny car option, as well as the '66 & '68 Bonneville kits. Steve
  13. Super Clean will work for nearly anything. It's the miracle solution! Steve
  14. Or you can buy a set that contains nearly every color you will ever need. The colors can be mixed to some extent & the set I have is metallic giving you the nice "salt & pepper" affect found in a lot of older cars. Steve
  15. It's definitely not "new". I've been using it for quite some time, as have a lot of other guys. But I agree, it looks a whole lot better than flocking! Steve
  16. There is a discussion on another thread right now about "Best Model Car Parts". He carries the decals. Steve
  17. Usually it takes a combination of spray & brush to get a good looking interior. It probably can be done with all spray, but for small areas, masking & brush painting will do the trick. I sprayed the overall colors on this '61 Buick interior, but all of the stripes are done with a brush. Steve
  18. I'm kind of with you guys. I haven't gone to a theater to see a movie in several years for all of the usual reasons. But I did have a pretty good time taking my son to see the Roger Waters "The Wall" show a few years ago. Didn't pay a fortune for tickets & the show was astronomical!! Maybe the reason that the show goers seemed a little more mellow was because they were mostly my age & the younger ones were all high. If you can't stand the smell of weed, don't bother going to a Pink Floyd concert. Steve
  19. Are you sure that it works as well as the "purple stuff"? Because there is a huge difference between Super Clean & Purple Power. Purple Power doesn't work anywhere near as well as Super Clean & I know this from experience. Even at $1.00, if it works like Purple Power, I wouldn't waste the money. Steve
  20. Finally got the interior modifications under control & some color on. I used Ford "Wimbledon White" to simulate a "parchment" seat color. I'll add some pearl to the seats & door panels & a little bit of shine to the dash & console & then it will be ready for detailing. Got a little more foil on the body but I still have a ways to go. Steve
  21. I've got a project for you. How about a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J ? Steve
  22. Thank you Bill! I have another member searching his stash for the Monaco wheels as we speak. If it turns out to be a no-go, I will surely get back to you. As far as I can tell, the Monaco & Charger wheels were one & the same in '66. If you could post or PM me a photo of the Charger wheels, I would know for sure. Steve
