American Graffiti is an iconic classic, right up there with Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz. Not much of a comparison there. Steve

Clint Eastwood has made some amazing movies! Grand Torino, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby & Trouble with the Curve . Not to mention recent movies he has directed, & or produced, like American Sniper, Letters from Iwo Jima & Flags of our Fathers, just to name a few. These cartoon car movies are not even on the same continent, let alone the same ballpark.

I've been buying my foil from Model Roundup for several years, & I use a lot of it! No issues at all. I'm assuming that their sales volume is high enough that the foil is always fresh. I just don't like to have to go to 15 different sources for supplies. I prefer to get as much as I can from one source. Steve

No, the '60 didn't have an up top. I always found it strange that some kits were offered with one, & others weren't. I don't believe AMT started putting them into some of their kits until 1961. Steve

Thanks guys! Working on the chassis now. I had to do a little grinding with the Dremel to remove part of the molded in exhaust to mate new pipes to the engine, & set up a mounting system for the engine. I'm hoping to get it ready for initial painting tonight. Steve

Where "can't" you order BMF on line? I can't think of a single on line hobby supplier that doesn't carry it. You can also order it directly from BMF. I usually get mine, along with other supplies, from "Model Roundup", to cut down on shipping. That reminds me.......I'm almost out! Steve

Hi all! I managed to finish up the engine this weekend! It's the 421 straight from the AMT '62 Catalina kit with a few minor details added. I only added a M.A.D. distributor, a scratch made dip stick & some rudimentary carb linkage. With the engine & interior completely finished & the body only needing a few details completed, I have to be getting close to the finish line. Next up, chassis. Shouldn't be terribly time consuming. I'll just be using the original kit chassis as usual. Steve

This has been my fear all along for applications on bodies. I suspected that it would most likely not be durable enough for exterior trim. I'm with you Bill. Interiors & touch up only. Steve

That's part of the reason why I use up to 5 coats of clear! Steve

I like the idea! I have used a similar technique for making things like heater hose clamps, but I had never thought of this. I just might give it a shot sometime. Steve

That's exactly how I do it! I find it's much less work to polish once at the end than to sand between every coat. Or, to be more truthful, I'm just too darn lazy to do all of that sanding! I will do some "strategic" sanding between coats on occasion, but usually at the end during clear coats. Steve

That's not a "man cave" in the true sense. Mine, on the other hand, would classify as a "cave"! Complete with stalactites of dust & rubble everywhere. I would not be surprised to find a half eaten saber toothed tiger under a pile of boxes! Steve

I agree with what you say to some extent Dann. It is relatively easy to polish up a not so perfect paint job if you know what you're doing. Otherwise things can go south in a hurry. My paint jobs are far from perfect straight out of the can or airbrush, so I get a good portion of my results from the polishing process. But how you get there is basically unimportant. My question is, if it is simple to get a perfectly polished paint job, why doesn't everyone have beautiful paint jobs? Every one we see should be. To be perfectly honest, that has been one of my goals on these forums. To let everybody know that you don't have to be a master painter in order to get good results. Now, the guys who can shoot perfect paint from an airbrush or can, & never have to touch it with a pad or polish........those guys are the true masters! Anybody can weather as well, but just like everything else, it takes practice. Steve
