  1. Thank you Bill! I think I'm coming into the home stretch on this one......that is, if I stay away from this computer & get some work done! Steve
  2. Looks great Randy! But to my eye, it still looks short & wide. Some of the 1/32nd kits from revell back then looked the same. The '56 Caddy always looked too short as well. Might just be my eyes! Steve
  3. Bingo! There's really no mystery here. You just have to make sure the plastic is "sealed" before shooting any hot paint over it. Even Duplicolor primer will craze styrene if you spray it on too heavy. Several thin coats of primer, followed by a couple of thin color coats & then a couple heavier ones will seal it up tighter than a drum. I usually shoot my clear coats fairly heavy because after 4-5 coats of primer & 4 coats of color, the clear will generally not penetrate it to the plastic No magic elixirs are necessary. Steve
  4. Ditto. I usually give it 24 hours before clear. But, I will add, I stopped using Testors clear because of major cracking problems. But, nobody else seems to be having that issue, so I'll just chalk it up to "painter error" Although, I have not had similar issues with Duplicolor clear. Steve
  5. Thanks Tim! That's been my main focus for quite some time now. I've seen so many of these old kits built badly over the years that I never really realized that they could be built well. Every time I started a new annual kit build, I used to look at the contents & wonder if it's possible to build it into something that looks nice. After building a couple dozen of them over the past few years, I began to realize that they can look respectable with a little love & effort. So, I've found my niche! I'm going to keep building these old kits until I have one of every kit that I thought couldn't look good, in my collection. I'm not sure when I'll go back to building modern kits. Possibly never! There's just way too much cool old subject matter out there to bother with the new stuff that I "sort of" like. Thanks Charlie! By all means, look Tommy up! He is a member here & will also custom make decals for you if you need some. I had him make a few small detail decals for me a while back, most notably, the "Golden Lion" valve cover decals for my '65 Chrysler build. Steve
  6. Thanks Tommy! I like to add a few decals under the hood. It just adds a little realism, even though they may or may not be completely correct. I really like the small engine bay decals that I got from Tommy Logan. I use some of them on most every build. Steve
  7. I'm very impressed Randy! Looks much better than I ever expected that this kit could look. Now you got me rethinking building mine. Nice work! Steve
  8. Thanks Bill! Going to dive into a few detail parts tonight along with painting a few small parts. Steve
  9. Very cool! Ironically, I just finished watching "The Road Warrior" again for the umpteenth time about 15 minutes ago on AMC. Great series of movies! I haven't seen the remake yet, but the Netflix disk is laying in my family room as I speak. I'm a little afraid to watch it. I'm afraid it may be a disappointment without Mel! Steve
  10. Just a custom mix using Testors flat paints John, & then clear coated. I've been using pretty much the same turquoise color for all of my Buick & Mopar builds. I'm not a big stickler for exact matches on engine colors. Close is good enough for me. Every time I start looking at 1:1 cars online for research, the engine color shades are all over the map anyway. Steve
  11. Thanks Pacen! These interiors are not exactly what I would call "fun to do", but it is gratifying when they turn out the way you envisioned. Steve
  12. Very nice Mark!! Thanks! Now you're making me want to start on mine! Steve
  13. Thank you John! I'm really hoping that I can finish it up this weekend. If not, surely by the following. Thank you! I look forward to seeing it Mike. Don't know what I'd build without this great old subject matter. I just love this stuff! Steve
  14. So what you're saying is, it didn't look like the movie "Tin Men". Rows of shiny new Cadillacs! Must not have been very "successful" salesmen. Steve
  15. Just a couple of shots of the finished engine. Nothing really impressive. There are not a lot of options out there when it comes to a stock "Nail Head" engine. So this comes pretty much straight from the box with a few small added details. Steve
  16. Well, You've surprised me already! looking into the opened box of this kit, you'll see nothing that would give you the impression that it could look this good. Nice work so far Randy! Steve
  17. I just recently passed on a Matador stock car & car hauler combo set at an antique shop. I believe the seller was asking around $80.00 for the kit. I had no idea what it was worth, not being a Nascar fan. Steve
  18. I've never been a fan of the 70s Torinos either, but you have admit, there have been plenty of ugly cars kitted over the years. Thank God for all of them! These Torinos were all over the place in '73-'74, in one configuration or another. You couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting one, so someone must have liked them. Even my small hometown police department had a light blue '73 4 door for one of their cruisers. Steve
  19. I tried the laquer clear coat Art. Didn't change it at all. As I said, I don't feel that it's bad enough to justify spending the time & money on re-chroming. Chances are very good that I'll just leave well enough alone. Steve
  20. Yeah, I'm not sure I'd chance it. I'll probably leave as is, or re-chrome. Steve
  21. I'll never know how you do it Al! I spent several hours this weekend just detail painting an engine & chassis plate, & making a few small under hood detail parts. If I ever tried to do a build in 24 hours, it would look like.............I did it in 24 hours! Anyway, nice job! Steve
  22. Fantastic work Yuri......as usual!! Steve
  23. Lot of really nice stuff! Great score!! Steve
  24. I have one of the Gunze kits. Very nice compared to the Revell kit. Steve
