Looking for a Little Input
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Mike. I usually try to stay away from too much red. Although I like red, & I've never seen a car that didn't look good in it, I like to try & use a little more unusual combinations. Helps keep my interest! A huge part of the build for me is coming up with a color that really grabs me. I think either of these combos would fit the bill, but I'm just undecided. I thought black would really show off all of that chrome trim, but I'm more partial to white. Either one would look good with the pale gold. On the other hand, for 50s cars, I just love coral! But I don't want to over do it. I already have several examples of variations of that color in my collection. But not one with metallic gray. Steve -
I have a '59 Pontiac Bonneville coming to the bench very soon & I'm blocking on a color scheme. Usually, I just look at a body style & get a feel for a good color, but this one is stumping me. I have it narrowed down to a couple of options & I'm just interested what people think. I do know I'm going 2-tone & I was originally going to go with either an off white or black body with a pale gold for the top, between the fins & the panel around the tail lights, with possible red wheels & a white & red interior with gold accents. Today I was going over color chips & ran across a pair of colors I really thought would look good as well. A medium metallic gray body with coral accents. Not sure about the interior color with that one, but probably gray & coral with possibly white, silver or black accents. What do you all think? Steve

Does anyone know what kit?
StevenGuthmiller replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The old Revell tri-five kits had engine blocks with the crank shafts molded in & some pretty good valve detail on the inside of the heads. The pistons are molded into the block also. Even the underside of the intake was well detailed. I know there was at least one kit that had a separate crank shaft, but I don't remember which one. I know it was a chromed piece. Steve -
Thanks guys! I need to get a few of my '65 Chrysler 300 in the sunlight too. I think I managed to get the rest at some point. Lee, the up-top & the continental kit are both from Modelhaus. I don't know if I'll be able to function as a builder without those guys! Steve

clear coat problem

If it's just "fogging" or "blushing" you can probably just polish it out. Steve -
I always got a kick out of this one! Steve "Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street. From my window I'm staring while my coffee grows cold."

Very good Harry! Steve

Thanks guys! My intention was to get outside this weekend & get some decent out door photos, as the weather has finally began to improve a bit here in Minnesota. But, I was feeling a bit under the weather so I had to postpone. Hopefully soon as I'm not really "feeling" the pics I posted already for this build. I guess with spring coming on, I have plenty of time. Steve

'62 Chrysler 300, Update, Color On, 3/7
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Color coats are on. May have a bit of an issue with the hood. Think I may have laid it down too heavy. I'll let it dry & see how it comes out. Steve -
Another car one that's probably been done. Steve "And now the sun's comin' up, I'm ridin' with lady luck, freeway cars & trucks, stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade, just a wishin' I'd stayed a little longer, Lord, don't ya know, the feeling's gettin' stronger."

The Mother Ship has Landed!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That's ok Cameron, I never really thought it was real. Just reminded me of something you would have seen in an "alien" movie back in the 70s. Steve -
This one probably hasn't been done yet. Steve "I called you so many times today, and I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say, that you don't ever want to see me again, and your brother's gonna kill me and he's six feet ten"....

Well, #1 is the Beatles, "Baby You Can Drive My Car". Not sure about the rest. Steve

Sorry, I didn't read all 267 pages! Steve

I believe the song's actual name was "Rev on the Red Line", but you obviously know it, so close enough! One of my favorite Foreigner tunes when I was a young street racer myself! Steve

'62 Chrysler 300, Update, Color On, 3/7
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys! I'm starting to consider rebuilding the interior a little, but it all depends on how ambitious I get. I have 2 old interior buckets, so I guess it's worth a try. Problem is, I have limited interest in this build as is & if I get too carried away with it, I'm afraid I'll lose interest all together. I'm thinking of removing the front & rear seats & replacing them with something more akin to what would have been in a "standard" 300 that year. Re-working the door panels a bit, & smoothing out the rear package shelf. I'm also considering replacing the counsel with just a plain transmission tunnel & maybe putting a bare bones four speed stick in it. Who knows, I'll probably just wind up living with the '65 interior. Steve
