  1. You & I would get along great Tulio! I've been shying away lately from doing some nice old kits just because they have engines. ('62 Ford Sunliner, '61 Buick Invicta, etc.) I've been kind of enjoying the "instant gratification" that comes with building a curbside kit. I'll build them eventually, but it's kind of nice just concentrating on paint, foil & interior & exterior detailing. (the parts of the build that I really enjoy) I also don't like working with resin. I only go that route if it's impossible to find in styrene. Steve
  2. Thanks guys! Tom, For some reason the convertibles are relatively easy to find, the hard tops are a little tougher. I finally found just a good body & used a convertible for a donor kit. Steve
  3. That's beautiful Marcos!! I love the use of the "Keystone" wheels! You don't see those much anymore. Nice Job!! Steve
  4. My original plan was to move on to a 1959 Mercury Parklane convertible, but I'm a little burnt out on the Fomoco projects after just finishing the '59 & '60 Edsels as well as a '60 Mercury. So I thought I'd give another Mopar the green flag. This kit should be a nice easy build. No restoration on this one. This is an original "pristine" '60 Imperial I picked up a while back & it definately "needs" to be built. Going with a "Dawn Mauve" paint job on this one. Not sure about interior color yet. Wish me luck! Steve
  5. Thanks guys! Christopher, actually the tires are not from a kit. These are a set of Modelhaus' "#530 late 50s- early 60s Johan promo wide whites". I love Modelhaus tires! I use a lot of them. Saves me from raiding other kits or painting white walls. Although it costs me a few bucks! Steve
  6. Thanks guys. This was a fun build. Steve
  7. No Amere. I use the old "foil before paint" method. I put on all of my primer & color coats, except for the last color coat. Then foil the scripts & other small parts like door & trunk locks, cutting al closely as possible. Then I apply the last color coat. After the paint cures enough to handle, I carefully clean off the paint from the script using the appropriate thinner & one of those small pointed "Q-tips" from Tamiya. I use the thinner very sparingly so as not the damage the paint around the script. Then I just clear coat over it. It's actually a very easy & satisfying technique that I wish I would have known years ago! Steve
  8. Finally finished up the Edsel hardtop build. Pretty much my usual MO. Box stock with a few added scratch built items. This one has had the steering column rebuilt as well as an added horn ring, scratch built interior mirror & antenna. I added pieces of painted clear plastic to the tail & back-up lights to add a little more realism. The colors are not "correct" Edsel colors, but are reasonably close to "Bronze Rose" & "Sahara Beige". Not one of my favorite builds, & a far cry from one of my favorite cars, but I felt like it had historic value. Besides, I needed a '60 to finish the Edsel "trilogy" in my collection. Comments or criticisms are always welcome! Steve
  9. Another beautiful one Tulio! I keep eye-balling my '64 Ford in hopes of building it someday! Unfortunately, there are a probably 30 other projects that take precedence over it. Fantastic Job!! Steve
  10. I just love that shade of green Tulio! It just screams early 60s! That's a beautiful car, plain & simple!! Steve
  11. Finished up the '60 Edsel Ranger today! When I get a chance to sit down tonight for a while, I'll post some pics "Under Glass". Thanks for all your comments & encouragement everybody! Can't wait to get started on the next one! Hope you all had a great 4th!! Steve
  12. What a fantastic idea! I never thought I'd see the day! Giving these kids the opportunity to do something with their hands rather than texting or playing video games is brilliant! Steve
  13. Nice job Ron!! These Johan '59 Oldsmobiles are getting to be about as rare as they come! It's nice to see one brought back from the dead! The paint is just "glorious"!! Steve
  14. Getting pretty close to finishing up on this build. With any luck, I'll have her done within the next few days. Finished up the interior tonight. Box stock except for the steering column & levers which were scratch built as well as my usual "card stock" floor mats. For some reason, this kit had no horn ring on the steering wheel. I'm not sure if it ever had one but all the photos of the 1:1 I've seen have a horn ring, so I swiped one from an AMT '57 Ford kit. Steve
  15. Sweet Michael! I love the red & white combo! See too many black stripes & interiors for my taste. & the white top is the icing on the cake! Great job!! Steve
  16. That's basically how I did this one. Just masked off & painted alternating vertical stripes of white, light blue & medium blue, ( the light blue is a little hard to pick up in this photo) & then did horizontal stripes with a darker blue ultra fine "Sharpie". Something like this would be pretty close. Steve
  17. Good luck with that interior Peter! Looks like another typical "wild" early 60s Mopar upholstery pattern. I'm not sure it will even be possible to duplicate this interior pattern. I just did mine in a tri-tone & didn't get too carried away with the cloth. Have fun with it though. You never know what you might come up with. I see lots of masking tape & patience in your future! Steve
  18. Peter, You flatter me! These are right up my alley!! As a matter of fact, I just recently picked up another of the '62s & hope to get going on it in the near future. As for the Desoto, I built one of those a couple of years ago & I'm a little frightened at how similar our tastes must be. I painted mine before I had my airbrush up & running again & I used Testors "Tropical Turquoise". Honestly, I like yours much better! Don't give up on it. I wanna see this one finished!! Steve
  19. Very nice Eric! I've always thought the '55-'56s were the best looking Fords of that era. This just makes me want to drag one out & get started on it! I've built several of these kits in the past but I'd really like build another now that my skills have improved a little. Great job! Steve
  20. Sorry Cliff. I may not have been clear. The Challenger I was refering to was a "new" one. I did a little research & found that they only offered that color in 2010 & called it "Furious Fuschia". I had seen a few pics online & since then, I've only seen one in person painted that color. Steve
  21. Very nice Tom! Most people don't quite have the stomach for this color but I love it! I actually saw a new Challanger in this color a couple of years back. I think it may have been a limited edition color because I haven't seen one since. The Dodge equivilent was of course "Panther Pink". (at least in the early 70s it was) The Challanger had the white interior also with pink piping. Very cool! Nice job!! Steve
  22. Nice job Emmanuel! I've never bought an R&R kit. Mostly because I've heard a lot of horror stories about them. But, I guess if you're looking for truly unique subject matter, resin is the only choice & these guys do provide that service. Good job on this one! Steve
  23. Nice variation on a theme Tulio! The side pipes & wire wheels are a nice touch. I love wires & use them a lot on my builds as well. One of these in a nice 2-tone would have been a real treat! Great job on all three! You're a regular master!! Steve
  24. This one's much more to my liking Tulio! Don't get me wrong, They're all beautiful, but stock is the way I like them. & that black paint? OOOOHH, nice!! Steve
  25. Tulio, Your paint jobs always amaze me! They're almost "too" perfect! Are you sure you're not "re-touching" your photos? Wonderful work!! Steve
