Correct Dod Dish Hubcaps?
StevenGuthmiller replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is what I'm mostly getting from just a basic photo search. Have no clue where you'd get them in 1/25th. Maybe Modelhaus? Steve -
1964 Mercury Comet - Tribute Model for Todd McWilliams
StevenGuthmiller replied to TheCat's topic in Model Cars
I've always liked the '64 Comet. Probably one of the nicest looking Comets. The color is beautiful! Turquoise has always been a favorite of mine! I think he'd love it. Steve -
57 Ford Fairlane. Another color test
StevenGuthmiller replied to rsxse240's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Now this is much more my style! The metallic is much more in scale than Blair's Merc. Very nice colors! Steve -
BMF question doing wing windows
StevenGuthmiller replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I do the same. & then fold the excess around to the backside. Steve -
I like it... A lot!! But, yeah, the green walls??? Personally, I love a white car with wide whites. Great job Everett!! Steve

BMF question doing wing windows
StevenGuthmiller replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I sort of do a similar thing except I go around when I'm done foiling & touch up any really tiny bare spots with a dab of "chrome silver" paint. You're right about the finish. It's a good idea to do a little light sanding on the vent windows & such before you foil. Steve -
BMF question doing wing windows
StevenGuthmiller replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Really, the only tip I can give you is take your time. The vent windows are the worst thing to foil in my opinion. Try doing them in several pieces. Start with a small piece for the horizontal portion @ the bottom, then a large piece for the A pillar, then a piece for the vent pillar. just keep in mind, if you do it in pieces, to keep your seams in the corners or places where they would be on the 1:1. That's sharp Peter! Nice job! Steve

Looking great Rich! I hold myself personally responsible for the 2-tone paint on the roof! Looks nice that way! Keep up the good work! Steve

Thinking "scale" wise, each one of those flakes look to be about the size of your thumb! But, a lot of people love that old school metal flake look! the color itself is very nice. I'm just personally not a fan of that heavy "metal flake" look.

Parking Fun , You know it makes you mad.
StevenGuthmiller replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
We pretty much all agree with you Cameron. We're just commenting on how you open yourself up for all kinds of bad things to happen to your ride when you act like that. I would never key someones car, but there are plenty of people out there who have a chip on their shoulder because, for whatever reason, they don't have what this guy has & they're just looking for an excuse to destroy the property they really wish they had. & this is just the excuse they're waiting for. Picked up a complete, unbuilt MPC 1965 Dodge Monaco kit today. I paid enough for it, but I love these old "unusual" kits! Steve

StevenGuthmiller replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
In this day & age, they probably don't bother "keying" so much. If they're going to vandalize you're car, they'll do some real damage! Courtesy of the generation who have pretty much abandoned the fist fight in favor of the Uzi! Steve -
32 Ford Windshield..
StevenGuthmiller replied to 10thumbs's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Unless you're building it factory stock, it can be whatever you want it to be. But from what I've been able to see just viewing photos online, most of the stock '32s were painted. But not all of them, if that helps any. Steve -
Thank you guys!! Steve

Thanks a lot guys! I didn't think of the "plastic bag" trick Brett. I stole that little tid-bit from someone else. Steve
-
Thanks guys! I guess I'do have to agree with you. The more I look at it, the more it looks almost "gray" & black rather than green. But hey....you live & you learn. I have a lot of pics of other kits where they came out a little too "washed out" also. I usually try to get pics in at least a couple of different lighting situations & then I'll just let you all decide. Steve

I mainly don't like the "glare" from being in direct sunlight. I also like to get photos on a slightly cloudy or overcast day. Or better yet, under some trees or such where you get a little of both. I probably should have adjusted the color saturation on my camera to make up for being in the shade, but, hind sight is 20/20. Steve

StevenGuthmiller replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
If you're driving a $50,000 or more Corvette, you should be able to afford to fix a few door dings after a few years. My wife & I own a 2005 Honda S2000 We don't drive it to the Walmart & the rest of the time, we park, as my wife would say, "strategically". & that does not include parking sideways in 2 spaces. What a douche!! Steve -
Chrome Spray Paint Comparison
StevenGuthmiller replied to om617's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My guess is they all require a very shiney black base. I've seen a lot of feed back on the Spaz Stixx over time. I think I'm gonna give it a try. If for no other reason, I won't have to clean out the airbrush afterwards! Steve -
1959 Ford Galaxie, Done! 11/16
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Got ya Robert! Couldn't tell for sure but it obviously had some unidentified color splotches on it. Just wasn't sure if they were on top or underneath. Steve -
1959 Ford Galaxie, Done! 11/16
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
A-ha!! I knew some one along the line had probably attempted this conversion! Looks very nice too Froghawk! Actually the Fairlane roofline was a little more appealing to my taste. But I guess I'll wimp out & just do the Galaxie as it came. Steve
