  1. The cab found in the '84 GMC pickup kit could be the basis for a build up of the truck you desire. The front end would require you to scratch build a grille and maybe re-shape the front fenders some. The Ford Louisville kit by AMT could yield the chassis to start this with. It all just depends on how much scratch building and imagination you are willing to put forth. It is unfortunate that this section of trucks (Medium Duty) has been largely ignored by kit makers and resin casters. Mike
  2. Nice looking grilles Jake! I am thinking that '73-75 grille might have to be ordered soon, I am just waiting on your late model IFS Ford 4WD front suspension piece! Thanks, Mike Scheve
  3. Happy days are here again! #120 showed up late yesterday and I have already dog eared the pages! Thanks! Mike Scheve
  4. A high school friend of mine discovered that the family room in his house was once a garage and the overhead door was behind the wall. He opened it up to allow a car inside his family room and now his fully restored, gold spinner award winning '67 Camaro Pace Car Convertible sits on display. He also has several "spare" bedrooms that are lined with NOS replacement parts for his collection of approximately 10 first generation Camaro's that based upon the current market, are outperforming any mutual fund! Needless to say, he is a confirmed bachelor and enjoys his passion for cars. Mike scheve
  5. If you have a Michael's nearby, check their ad and take the 40% off coupon in and get yourself a new airbrush there! A $50 airbrush would be $30 with the coupon. Also might want to check Hobby Lobby on line as you can usually get a coupon to use at the store. Same deal as Michael's. You might also want to check Micromark as they run sales all the time and just might have a bargain airbrush. Never tried the "El Cheapo" that Wal- Mart sells but that might be a option too. 6. Didn't they swap a front end on a Magnum wagon on an episode of Overhaulin ? Maybe Chrysler had that in mind all this time! Well, at least we know how to drive on the right side of the road! Mike Scheve
  7. Gregg, You mentioned the Feb/March issue, what about the January issue? I have the December 2006 mag, number 119 and the next one should be the January 2007, number 120, correct? If it was mailed awhile ago, I did not get it (yet)and supposedly my subscription is good thru May 2007 and I haven't gotten a renewal notice either. Maybe the renewal notice and the mag will show up together? Thanks, looking forward to the contest pics! Mike Scheve
  8. G & J , I know that you got behind on the magazine and was wondering when the January 2007 (#120) issue would be out? I am in need of some reading material as I don't feel like firing up the heater in the garage to do some painting! Thanks, Mike Scheve
  9. Your English and spelling is better than a lot that I have read lately on many forums. The hood you seek is going to be a resin piece and I will have to think about some other vendors that might have what you are looking for. AFX/N resin has had some issues with getting orders out in a timely fashion due to various reasons, that is why I will scour my notes and see what i can find. Mike Scheve
  10. I like the look of it and would have to say that it falls into the "definitely different" category. Whatcha gonna haul on it? Mike Scheve
  11. Jacky, Thanks for the reminder, I will be there, along with my two tax deductions! Momma is out of town that weekend so I better save up my allowance and empty my piggy bank! Mike Scheve
  12. Never met the man but always admired his creativity in the pages of the model magazines. I will keep his family in my prayers and hope that he makes a miraculous recovery. Thank you for letting us know about Ricky.
  13. Kinda like the "Field of Dreams" movie.....If you build it they will come. I know having a central location to refer to when trying to find something is better than a scratch pad of notes and outdated websites. Thanks, Mike Scheve
  14. Jake, Congrats on taking the big step and starting your own business. I have always admired your builds and helpful tips to others and see some stuff that I definitely want! Nice job on the website and I am looking forward to seeing some of those "Coming Soon" items! Mike Scheve
  15. Nice looking Uni you built. I got to operate one for a couple of years while working for a Mercedes dealer and they were awesome no matter what I was doing- plowing snow, using the endloader or the forklift- but I did have a much stronger left leg due to the clutch they out in there! I have the Revell version with the snowplow that I want to build some day soon. Mike Scheve
  16. You can also submit a sample for a magazine review and they will be sure to mention you and your company, along with contact information in an upcoming issue. Just a guess but I would think one of your kits as a sample is cheaper than an ad and from there you could gauge reaction/interest and become a regular advertiser in the magazine if it warrants. I haven't seen the admin here remove any posts that were a shameless plug (unlike the other guys) but have seen them remove a post that was in poor taste. Let us know about new items as you develop them. Mike Scheve
  17. Looks great Ken, makes me think of my basement I had when I lived in Northern Illinois. Now that I am transplanted in the South, finding a house with a basement ain't easy. It sure would help me hide all of my kits! Keep the work area nice and neat and maybe the Warden will let you have more space! Mike Scheve
  18. Good start and you have some nice pieces to add to a decent kit. It should look real nice when done. Any ideas yet on a color? You going for a slammer look or slightly modified ? Mike Scheve
  19. I was at Hobby Lobby last weekend (using up a gift card) and noticed they had the diecast trailer (Testors) and was part of their 30% off sale. I didn't need another trailer (whole 'nother story) but it was nice to see that one around. Mike
  20. Another awesome build to follow along with and I can't wait to see it finished! You are a heck of a builder of these crawler Jeeps! Mike Scheve
  21. Not 100% sure but am fairly certain they did. I do know that there was tan interiors available as a friend's older brother had a hugger orange/black top/tan interior '72 Blazer with 38" Monster Mudders that we all envied. If nothing else, they had black vinyl floor mats/covering. Mike Scheve
  22. What is on the cover of issue 118? I don't think I got my copy of #118 and I haven't seen a renewal form come in the mail so I think my subscription is up-to-date. I understand the bad weather issue in Denver, had a friend try to make it home for X-mas and he spent many hours at the airport! Mike Scheve
  23. I see both arguments here and I can honestly say no one is wrong. The fact that this is an all new tool should mean top quality and few, if any blemishes. This being a kit that was brought to market quickly probably means that items were overlooked to avoid delays and to get it into our hands. I am not happy about the sinkmarks in my two kits any more than the others here but what can I do? Call up AMT or log onto their website? That is a start but doesn't mean that the problem is solved. I think I read that AMT/RC2 has sold out the first run production of this kit and undoubtedly will produce more. Will they fix these before the next run? Maybe/Maybe not. It will most likely depend on how much it will cost and how long it will take. I do know that if we as a group decide to boycott AMT/RC2, we will only hurt ourselves as they will have less revenue in which to invest in new subjects and revise existing molds. Sorry to rant, but in the grand scheme of things, I will try to fix my kits problems and worry about bigger things in my life. I enjoy the challenge these present and the escape from reality of work and family life. Happy New Year! Mike
  24. Brian, You mean you are supposed to FINISH a model? LOL ! I hear your pain and can relate 100%! I have models that I started 5-8 years ago that are still waiting for that last hour or two of finish work to be done. I have started 4 or 5 kits in the last 6 months, only to put them to the side and begin another because I get a great idea for it. My New Years resolution is to complete what I have started already BEFORE I break the seal on another kit. My other resolution is to NOT buy another kit until I have completed my current projects and thinned out my collection of excess kits (This will be hard as my Mother-In-Law gave me a $25 Hobby Lobby gift card last night and they are having a 30% off sale! She's trying to get me , I know it!). Just try to do what you can and most of all- Enjoy yourself, it's just a hobby! Happy New Year! Mike
  25. Like everyone else has stated, I have more than I can finish in this lifetime but that doesn't deter me from buying more kits! I think it is the creative forces within us that compel us to buy more kits with the thought of ' I am gonna bash this one with that engine and those wheels......'. I hope that 2007 brings me some time to finish what I have started and the ability to plan my builds a little better so I can complete a kit before the next batch of releases distract me ! Happy Holidays to one and all! Mike Scheve
