Veterans Day
mikemodeler replied to Frank Steffens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Frank, thanks for stating what many of us feel and think. I too, thank you veterans for your past service and want to thank current members of our armed forces here and abroad for your willingness to keep us free. Mike -
Brian, Welcome to the forum and be sure to subscribe to the magazine so you don't miss out on any thing related to our hobby. In regards to the letter / reply on the Revell '69 Nova, you are correct that Revell's new kits does have its flaws. Those flaws have been debated here and I would suggest you take the time to read through some of the posts to see what has been said. While we would all love to have EXACT scale reproductions EVERY time the manufacturers' bring an all-new kit to market, reality is that it isn't always possible. I know that steps are taken to ensure accuracy, but sometimes things have a way of falling through the cracks. Some mistakes are inexcusable, some inevitable. I personally don't let most kit problems get to me and if they do, I just put the kit aside for another day when I am in a better frame of mind. Mike

Happy Birthday Marines
mikemodeler replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Clay, Happy Birthday to you and all of our proud Marines. You all provide a sense of security for those of us who call the U.S. home and abroad to many foreigners. I want to thank you for your service and also to your contributions here in the forum. Your Marine training shows through in your demeanor and positive attitude displayed here on the forum. My 15 year old son was disappointed to hear that his high school JROTC program was switching from an Army branch to a Marine branch next year. I reminded him that the important thing to remember is honor to his country and flag, regardless of which branch he serves under. I think he will do just fine as a Marine JROTC officer next year, much like he is doing as a Army JROTC officer this year. Thanks again for all that you do, everyday, alllowing me and my family to be free. Semper Fi! Mike -
The last issue I have is #133, JULY 2008. I tried calling the Golden Press offices but got voicemail. I left a message stating I hadn't received my copies of the mag but then again, my mailman isn't exactly known for being speedy. Not sure how to get the mags delivered faster (some months they don't show up at all) but it ticks me off to know some folks get their copies two weeks earlier than I do. I have the same problem with that other model mag too. I have been told it is the post office and how they process magazines for delivery and that they are all shipped from the printer at the same time. Funny how a guy in Toronto Canada can get his copy two weeks before me and two days before it hits the newsstand? Been thinking about renewing my subscription to MCM early as I cannot buy it at any newsstands or hobby shops near me but it sure is frustrating to have to wait while others get to enjoy. Mike

Those look great and you can put me down for one of each. I would go for 2 or 3 of each but considering I have been more of an "accumulator" than "builder" lately, I need to keep the extra cash around for more stuff to buy.

Bob Paeth passes.
mikemodeler replied to Jim Keeler model cars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Art, What a moving tribute to a man who did so much for our hobby ! Like others, I had read about Bob but never met him. The contributions that he and many others have made to this hobby and world are numerous and gentlemen like him are rare gems. Tonight my thoughts and prayers include Bob and his family. I take comfort in knowing he is in a better place and his suffering has ended. Thank you Art for the wonderful words. Mike -
VERY NICE ! Don't worry about your English, there are some Americans on this forum who have troubles with the language also. I have a set of those Pegasus wheels and still haven't figured out a build to put them on but you have given me an idea! Welcome to the forum, there is much to learn and don't be shy. If this is an example of your skills, we are waiting for your next build! Mike

Clay, As someone who has gone through the procedure 10 years ago, I can sympathize with you on the discomfort! My biggest concern that morning was whether or not the doctor had a steady hand as I had become attached (pun intended) to the pieces in that region! The worse part for me was when the doc cauterized the "tube", I can still smell it. Five days after my procedure, I was asked to be a pall bearer at a friends mother's funeral;luckily she was a petite woman and I got to be the man in the middle. Zeb is correct, go back to the doc for a follow up and have them check to make sure the "swimmers" are gone as I have heard about several cases of "It can't be mine, I got snipped!", usually by guys in their 40's who were close to being empty nesters. Keep those frozen peas close by! Mike

Real or Model #55 FINISHED, by George!!!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I have guessed Real and sure hope I am right seeing how I missed last week! Mike -
Nice job on the convertible conversion and the re-styling of the body. The paint looks great and flawless. It will be interesting to see if GM will bring out a convertible version of this car as they deal with the high gas prices and hard times in the auto industry. I sure hope those pictures were taken several months ago, I would hate to think that you have snow already ! Mike

Where Do You Keep Your Stash?
mikemodeler replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would take a picture of my stash but seeing how it is my wedding anniversary today, it might be my last one if the missus were to see just how many kits I have! I have my stash in three places- On storage shelves in cardboard boxes (20 boxes total= 250 kits);on the garage workbench about another 30-40 kits; on my final assembly table probably 10-15 kits. This total includes some WIP as well as sealed kits/opened kits. I have the same problem as many of you in that my intentions are good, however I buy them faster than I can build them. As far as Mr. Bastedo is concerned, I will be in the Kingsport area later this year and he better hope I CAN'T find his house! That is a collection to envious of for sure. I do remember the single guys usually having the larger collections, must be something about a lack of nagging that explains it! Mike PS- never keep your stash under the front seat, that is the first place the cops look! -
Looks great, I assume it will be on the table this weekend? Been saving my spare change, hope to get that '50 Chevy Panel and maybe this '55 Sedan Delivery. Mike

looking for perry's resins parts
mikemodeler replied to truckman1958kits's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember awhile back that they had opened a hobby shop and that the resin business was taking a back seat to the store. Randy was going to scale back his offering on the resin side and focus on the bigger items like bodies and kits and do away with the small parts. Not sure if the website says anything about what is and isn't available or if they are even taking orders. I would try contacting him to see what is the latest. I have heard that he attends shows in the east like the NNL East so it may be possible to order something and pick it up at a show. He might be at Toledo, not sure. Mike -
Real or Model #50 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Something says real and I haven't been wrong but once in the last 12 weeks ..................... Mike -
A quick update and again, major kudos to the office. When I called in on August 1, I was told replacements would be sent out and they apologized for the delays. I went to the mailbox on Monday, August 4 and there they were! I figured it would be several more days before I would see them as it is quite a distance from Denver to Charlotte. After reading them, I have some ideas for some builds now! Mike

dumb question but
mikemodeler replied to sdrodder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hopefully Art Anderson (Biscuitbuilder) from All American Models will let us know what happens to the old molds and masters as he can speak from experience. Given the quality variances available in resin, some molds being destroyed is not a bad thing! Mike -
Dave, I think your mailman's brother delivers the mail here in Charlotte as it just dawned on me that I was missing the April & May issues! Either that or they have some modelers down at the P.O. and they are holding out on me! I seem to get my "other" car model mag okay so it must be the fancier pages of MCM that gets the eye of the PO employees. I too, called the Customer Service department @ Golden Bell and they said they would get replacements out to me and apologized for the delays. Hopefully they will come in a plain brown wrapper (like some of "those" magazine) so the mailman keeps his paws off of them! Mike

69 Camaro Baldwin-Motion "Stinger" hood
mikemodeler replied to larrygre's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Larry, I knew I had seen something close or exactly like what you were looking for at the Road Knights show here in Charlotte yesterday. I quickly checked the Bandit Resins website (www.banditresins.com) and didn't see one there but it would be worth checking with Kenny as he is always developing new stuff. Also at the show were the folks from Competition Resins (www.compresins.com). I remember seeing something close and they have a '68 Dana Camaro stinger hood listed. Not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for but check it out. Hope this helps! Mike -
Real or Model #48 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Is that a 1/12 scale model? The detail is superb and if you had included those interior and underhood shots in the beginning, you might have fooled more members, myself included! The thing that convinced me it was a model were the windows and the front bumper, they just didn't look right. Let us know who built that beauty. Mike -
Real or Model #48 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
If you study the picture real close, you will see the answer. Of course, we will have to wait until Friday to know for sure! Mike -
Modeling Machines
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, If you are not in a big hurry, you can surf craigslist and maybe find what you are looking for. The nice thing about craigslist is that you can post a "Want to Buy" ad and maybe someone has one they want to get rid of. I do not know much about mills and lathes but would have to think the old adage of "you get what you pay for" rings true with this. Best of luck in your search. Mike -
Real or Model #46 COMES TO A SCREECHING HALT!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Harry, The warm weather in Chi-town must be getting to you as no one has guessed "model" as of yet. I thought that truck looked familiar and the others have reminded me of whose it is. Mike -
I was just wondering the same thing......I thought after last winter's computer crash that future issues were being fast tracked and would have been caught up by now. Any updates?
