  1. I remember looking thru the JC Whitney catalog as a kid and asking my Dad to buy stuff for the family station wagon. Today many of those parts would be considered tacky but back in the day, it was the thing to do! I would say that you have captured the style and essence of the day with the build. Living in the South, I occasionly see some older pickup trucks that have been "customized" like the one you built. Nice job, now you need to build the companion car to go with the truck.

    69 Nova

That is a very clean build, you must have had some strong competition if you didn't place. Nice details and it reminds me to get working on the Nova I started earlier this summer.
  3. Don, Looks great, can't wait to read your review! I remember reading somewhere how a guy used the self sticking food wrap (?) to line his spray booth to keep the paint buildup to a minimum and make it easy to clean. You might want to try that method and let us know how it works.
  4. By stock do you mean with the two chrome simulated vents instead of the cowl induction hood? If so, I believe there are several resin casters including Bandit Resins who offer such a piece. I just picked up one of Revell's snap kits of the'69 Camaro that has the SS hood instead of the cowl induction hood but haven't checked to see if it fits the glue kit. I would check with the usual sources like The Modelhaus, Reliable Resin, Bandit Resins etc.
  5. I renewed my subscription in mid August and when I checked with the office in early September, Gregg was close to having the mag ready for print. I have grown to accept that the mag doesn't arrive in the same month as the cover is dated but is usually a good read when it shows up. Hang in there, it will be here eventually.
  6. Only takes a few apples to spoil the whole basket.
  7. Brian, Thanks for sharing and also making most of us jealous of his collection! Like you mentioned to Harry, having multiples of a kit can lend it to being built in many variations. By chance did this fellow originally come from the Midwest? I see some markings on some of the kits that remind me of a Hobby shop back in Southern Wisconsin that has since closed. Talk about stirring up memories! Thanks again!
  8. Could it possibly have something to do with a show in 3 weeks? I am sure it will be worth the wait to see it.
  9. Looks great and nice to see some progress on it! A quick question though- what are you doing for fuel tanks? I noticed that the second set of steering wheels are pretty tight to the forward wheels and the fuel tank that came with the kit probably won't fit. I would hate to see you extend the frame some more for the fuel tanks!
  10. Joshua, The trick is to win some money at the casino and THEN go to Floyd's museum. Give the wife some spending money for one of the many arts & crafts stores and she can't complain about you hitting the hobby shop.
  11. I do believe that Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Musuem is near there as well.It costs a few bucks to get in but if you bring a camera you will probably get some great pictures to use later for inspiration. There are a ton of things to do in the area, just depends on what your interests are.
  12. The Revell Chevelle wagon has a nice set of exterior door handles, maybe you can resin cast them and make extras? I would also look at the resin casters like The Modelhaus, maybe Replicas & Minatures, or some of the photo etch guys. They might be able to be scratch built using sprue or Evergreen stock.
  13. That car was called "Sucker Bet" and is now owned by a guy in Northern Illinois. I suspect he will have it at some shows yet this year as he bought it to drive AND show. He is a real car guy and has an awesome collection of muscle cars. Rommel- Nice job and now we wait for that Tow Truck to be finished! Nice details and great job on the body damage.
  14. Verrrrrrrrrry nice work there and what a paint job! I have always liked these and have a couple of them to build....someday! I worked at a Buick dealer from '83-'84 just as the T-Types were coming out and remember taking one for a "test drive". A friend of mine offered me a deal on a leftover '87 GN that was hanging around in early '88 at dealer he worked for. I had just bought a new pickup and couldn't swing the second car payment. Besides, my truck was black and I was already cursing myself for buying that color vehicle and trying to keep it clean! Good luck on your search for a 1:1 later.
  15. Nice color combo and I like the custom roll pan. One suggestion- add a black wash to the grille to give it some depth and realism.
  16. That is very nice! All it needs now is a 50's era transport trailer and a load of cars headed to the dealer.
  17. nice color combo and very shiny paint as the pictures show the reflection of the front tires! I have several of these to build (like so many others! ) and maybe I will get started on a few now that cooler weather is here. Thanks for posting!
  18. I picked up Donn's how to video and plan to follow his techniques in it. I have tried using my airbrush on and off over the years and after talking with Donn at a show, it dawned on me that rushing through the process is what turned me off to using the airbrush! Like others have said, practice is the difference! 58 Impala- if you are buying a Paasche, see if there is a Hobby Lobby nearby. They have a 40% off coupon this week and the last time I checked, they had them in stock at $89.00, which after the coupon makes it about $53.00 . I might pick up another one just to have for clear coats.
  19. This should be interesting! Are you going to duplicate the bumper stickers on the rear door too?
  20. Having lived in that area for 41 years, I got excited to see the pictures and wanted to say "Thanks Gerry!" for posting them. I went to Skip's for many years and remember cleaning out my garage of old car parts & tools and making $500 in about 4 hours 15 years ago at the swap meet. I really miss the car show portion of the event as there were always some really nice cars and just about every type you could think of! Thanks again and post more pics if you have them!
  21. That is going to be a beauty when you get it done! I can only imagine the work left to do on it to get the Alcad to to shine.
  22. Wayne, While I have never chopped a top on a model or 1:1, I will agree with your observation that this body needs some sectioning to have "the look". That alone is probably why I have yet to chop a top as the whole process of chopping AND sectioning a body scares the heck out of me! I think as far as details go, yours has some nice ones and the color looks great. Maybe someday I can get around to completing some of my builds so I can post them up here!
  23. What about the L-88 engine from the '68 Vette by Revell? The '69 Yenko Camaro? I think any big block will do fine, it probably comes down to which one has the best accessories you are trying to replicate.
  24. something tells me that you will have some super detail in this 1:1 like you do in your models! Looks like you are taking the time to do it right and while I am sure you are anxious to get it done so you can cruise in it,putting quality parts and thought into it is important. Can't wait to see it done!
  25. Or how about a '32 Ford body- 3 or 5 window or roadster?
