Jimmy, Nice build there and keep working on your skills and it will show. Slow down when you are typing and we will all be able to better understand what you are telling us! Now, a couple of observations and not meant to stir the pot: Dave- not sure where your comments came from, it sure looks like something a teenager would build to me. As far as WIP pics, I am not sure if Jimmy was thinking about those when he started this kit. I certainly don't think to take WIP pics, too dang busy trying to finish SOMETHING ! Think of how your words must have felt when Jimmy read them. Has anyone ever asked you to prove you are the builder of the models in your posts, Dave? I enjoy your models and think you are very creative but for all we know you have a sweat shop full of master craftsmen churning out those awesome 4WD models! To those that debate the use of "Kustom" vs. "Custom", is it really worth the bandwidth and posts to argue over it? If so, take it to PM and leave the rest of us out of it. Not picking on anyone or want to join the debate, but really, Spring is here and we should be rejoicing in the warm weather! I have yet to post any of my builds here and probably will continue to NOT do so. It is not because I can't handle the truth, it is because I build for me and me only. If the mood ever strikes, maybe I will. Okay, a bad day at work has left me grumpy so I will end my rant, maybe I will attempt to work on something tonight.

Working at home today and the Overhaulin episode where they fix up a truck like this kit is on, maybe I will get inspired!? Thank goodness for cable TV !

I am just wondering what the latest update is on the February issue? I know that January was late but I thought Gregg said the February issue would be right behind it as it is the annual Contest issue and was close to being done, no? I am jonesing for some model reading material and was hoping that my MCM would be arriving soon. Thanks in advance for any updates.

Just picked this up tonight, glad to see someone has started it and is showing pics. I will probably build it stock and am thinking about finding a second one for using under a Jimmy Flintstone resin van body. Thanks!

Nice job, as usual, Bruce in resurrecting someone else's cast off! I am looking to do the same thing (creating a GMC Jimmy) from the Model King's Blazer re-issue but I am taking the lazy way out as I bought the Jimmy conversion kit from Bandit Resins for $14.00. It includes the hood, grille and tailgate and considering I don't possess the same skills as Bruce, I will get my Jimmy! I like the turquoise paint and it should stand out as it is not something you see everyday. I have a can of that same paint and I was planning on using it on some mid-50's Chevies but I might have to re-think that after seeing your Jimmy!

MCM #147 January

Well, I guess the mailman is still reading my MCM as it isn't here. I did get my April SA today, something to read at least. Mike -
MCM #147 January
mikemodeler replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad to hear the January issue is on the way, I am in need of some new reading material. I will probably get my SA and MCM at the same time. -
Like the others have stated, welcome back and glad you are in one piece. Never a good thing to have to come home under the circumstances you did, glad you could make it. Met a soldier last month on a flight from Seattle to Charlotte that was travelling home for the same reason and he was glad to be able to attend the funeral. Take care, enjoy the family and let us know if you are going back over or if you are here for awhile.

I spoke with Dave this weekend at a show in Salisbury, NC. He mentioned that he was changing the size of the bottles he sells the paint in and has some new resin bodies/kits coming out. I saw a few new resin kits that I have to have. Of course, I could start the ones I already have!

spray booth explosion
mikemodeler replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are several sources for spray booths, depending on your budget. Micro Mark www.micromark.com Pace Spray Booths www.pacepaintbooths.com Model Expo www.modelexpo.com Testors www.testors.com Many of the airbrush companies sell them as well, do a google search on airbrushes and you will get a ton of sources. Research and see what your budget allows. Building a homemade booth is fine, the key is the correct type of motor to prevent an explosion. Mike -
spray booth explosion
mikemodeler replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is some terrible news to hear and I too hope the man makes a full recovery. There have been many articles written in magazines and how-to build your own booth posts in this forum and others. What I truly remember being the most important issue was the use of the right type of exhaust motor. I remember an article from Fine Scale Modeler that referenced a specific type of motor sourced from Grainger Supply and it cost around $80. While some of us are frugal and try to be resourceful, I think we all agree that $80 for the correct type motor is cheaper than a trip to the emergency room! I have seen a small, inexpensive portable spray booth advertised at Model Expo for around $125 and am thinking about that as my next investment. I currently spray out in the garage in a homemade wooden booth with no fan and I know the Mrs. would appreciate a real spray booth in its' place. There are many options on spray booths, and given the price of kits these days, it really boils down to the cost of 10 kits, maybe less, depending on which one you choose. Mike -
Check out Perry's Resin, I believe they have a resin kit to transform the AMT kits into a 4WD. Not sure how quick he is shipping these days so an email before you order might be the way to go. Quality stuff and he is in Ontario Canada.

Twin turbo'd Camaro kit.
mikemodeler replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is the old Monogram 1/24 '69 Z/28 Camaro kit. I remember building that back in the '70s before Revell developed their series of '69 Camaros. The wheels should match so it is possible that your Uncle did some swapping/kit bashing. That kit is available today, check Tower Hobbies, Modelroundup, Hobby Lobby, LHS. Mike -
Nice wagon and the under side detailing is very crisp! Could the lack of an engine have anything to do with your last name? Please tell us you AREN'T related to AL GORE!!! I would hate to think you build curbsides because of Global Warming!!! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!) Nice job. If it warms up here in the Carolinas I will get my '66 Chevelle Wagon done too! Mike

amt '96 chevy tahoe
mikemodeler replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Forgot about the Escalade but that would yield the 4WD chassis that you are looking for. Not sure how well it would mate up but I am sure you could pirate the front suspension off of it. The Tahoe would be the easiest route to go, unless you are looking for detail. The chassis in that kit is one piece (like all snappers)but does show the basics. Mike -

mikemodeler replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nick, I think you may be over-thinking how to replicate the front suspension. Like I originally stated, the Tahoe Snap Fast kit has a chassis that you can swap in easily under the truck, eliminating the need to fabricate any components. The resin piece from Perry's is cast from the same kit, IIRC. Unless you are trying to replicate something EXACTLY like the 1:1 and need that killer detail, using the above pieces should be enough to get you by. The Aoshima Toyota Pickups have a similar style front suspension that you could probably copy some ideas off of. Do a search here, I think someone may have already built a truck similar to what you are working on. Mike -
amt '96 chevy tahoe
mikemodeler replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nick, I am not sure how detailed you are trying to make this model, but an easy way to getting a realistic looking chassis is to pirate the one from the AMT Snap Fast Tahoe kit (the same kit that has the wheels you were looking for earlier). The wheelbase is identical and the truck fits on with minimal adjusting. There was some resin caster who was offering a resin front end as a conversion but I cannot remember who it was, maybe Perry's resin? Mike -
Real or Model #125 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I went with real. The new season of Auto shows is upon us and something about this gets me to thinking that this is a concept car to gauge the public's opinion. I guess we will find out Friday, huh? Mike -
I did it !!!!
mikemodeler replied to 67PontiacGTO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Benjamin, Congrats on the early graduation. I did the same thing and started college a semester earlier than most of my friends. Good luck at the job with your Dad, just watch out for some guy named Homer who likes donuts.. Mike -
Check with The Modelhaus, they have many stock wheels and could possibly have a set that is exact or close to what you are looking for without having to buy 2 kits just for the wheels. IIRC, most of their resin wheel sets are around $5.00, considerably cheaper than the current Revell '64 Ford Fairlane kit! Mike

Hey! I Am Back!
mikemodeler replied to Irvin Arter Jr.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That sure is one sweet Caddy Irv! Welcome back and can't wait to see more of your builds. Did you ever get the El Camino done and on the road before the snow started flying? I sure loved that WIP and hope you have some pix to share! Mike -
Time To Go Medieval
mikemodeler replied to MikeMc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is so funny! I could be wrong (occasionally it can happen) but it sure seems like Numnuts spelled his first name incorrectly. That alone should get him kicked off. By the way, if any of you wise guys says anything bad about me.......I'm Leaving !!!!!!!!
